15 year-old pupil commits suicide over exam failure

South Africa – An inconsolable Pietermaritzburg mother yesterday regretted taking her son’s report card home.

The 15-year-old Northdale pupil was found hanged in his room hours after learning that he had failed his Grade 10 examination, timeslive reports.

“I keep asking myself why he took his own life. I can’t stop asking myself what would have happened had he had not seen the report yesterday. I can’t stop wondering why my son did this,” said the mother, who did not want to be named.

“He was such a lovely child. I never thought he would do something like this.”

She joins thousands of South African mothers who, year after year, search frantically for answers to why their teenagers chose suicide.

The mother said it was harder for her to understand what was going through her son’s mind because he had previously failed a grade.

“I cut the rope and I held his body in my arms. We rushed him to hospital but it was too late.”

The SA Depression and Anxiety Group’s spokesman, Janine Shamos, said about 5000 teenagers commit suicide in South Africa every year.

A recent National Youth Risk Survey has revealed that 9.5% of all teen deaths in South Africa are due to suicide.

“Failure at school is a major cause of teenage suicide,” Shamos said.

She said parents should be vigilantwhen school exam results are released and encourage their children to speak to them about anything, including failure, well ahead of the release of school results.

Sexual Exploits With Ladies in Banking Industry To Get Deposits

Sexual Exploits

As a new employee in a bank back in 2008, we were given targets from the Head Office – to ‘get’ deposits, like they were hanging on trees and all we were to do was ‘pluck’ the monies. Most women told me horrific stories of how they had to affairs with men and women alike, all in the name of getting ‘deposits’.

One particular incident stays with me:
I had walked into the office of this well known Independent Oil Marketer in my region – my church-member, to sell him my bank services, even though every other bank was offering same services. In his expansive office, he offered me this plush chair to sit on, and then he hastily went on to get me drink.

I sat calmly, as my heart thudded in my chest, even as I thought of what to tell him since all I had planned to recite had evaporated immediately I beheld his lewd smile. He wore that same slimy smile as he offered me the bottle of Maltina.

“My pretty baby, what brings you to my humble office?” He was frenzied with excitement. He brought a low chair and sat opposite me, his knees almost grazing mine. He didn’t give me chance to catch my breath and confidence. My stomach quivered in fear. He knew this game well.

“Sir..”

“Call me, Ken,” He quipped in. He was almost as old as my father.

“My name is Ukamaka Olisakwe.”

“Uka-baby, don’t be shy. Be free with me. Talk to me.” He quickly grabbed my shoulders, shook them, and then left me again. He launched into a lot of nonsense about how I looked and how he liked my outfit, especially my shoes. I squirmed all the while. “Don’t be shy.” He held my hands in his. I stared at him, and then pulled my hands away.

He asked how long I had been in the banking industry. I said I was new. He beamed. He would give me deposit that would shock my manager. He will make me the envy of all in my branch. Ha! “Do you know if I call your MD and told him I am going to give you N100, 000, 000 in fixed deposit you would be given double promotion? What is even your salary? Do you have an official car yet? I am going to shock, baby. Just ask about me. Do you know how many ladies ‘chase’ me for deposit? I just like you.”

I stared at my palms. My wedding ring glistened. I felt sad, then angry. I knew if I were a man he would not be this informal with me. He would have been respectful and might even have engaged me in a talk on politics or football or the financial markets. But I was a woman, and as expected, I deserved none of those ‘gentlemanly’ discussions. What do we know, we women? We should be seen as sex objects – as toys to be played with, that’s the best respect you could give to a woman. Right? Not as human equals, but as objects to massage men’s ego.

“Do you want to have sex with me?” I blurted.

The smirk disappeared. He looked a little shaken. Then he quickly began to regain the lost balance.

“Ehhh, you are one naughty girl..” The dirty smile crept out again.

“I am not naughty.”

He laughed out loud. “I like you. You are fearless.”

“I didn’t know I was supposed to be afraid of you.”

“No. No. I didn’t mean that. Just surprised by your boldness.” He was laughing still.

“You don’t want to see me bold, Sir,” I said. I wanted to tell him that only a coward, piss-poor-excuse-for-a-man would disrespect a woman this way. I wanted to scream in his face that only fools like him would turn an official visit as an opportunity to browbeat a woman into sex. Another woman might cower, but I am not another woman. I am Ukamaka. If I ever wanted to engage into an affair with you, I would, not because I was forced into it, but because I wanted it.
But I quietly stood, patted down my dress and said: “Thank you and have a nice day, Sir.”

I got to our office and told my supervisor, the good man, Ugochukwu Nwamara, of my challenges. He did the best thing for us – the marketers. He introduced to us the concept of ‘Team Marketing’. He made us confident. He thought us that women should be shown respect not because they should be pitied, but because they are Human Beings, too.

I wish other women were lucky, but it is sad that this modern day slavery is still practiced!

Community tackles Delta monarch over refusal to marry second wife

The Ika North East local government has been witnessing fallouts between the traditional leader and his subjects over the leader’s refusal to marry a second wife.
Obi Ikechukwu Osadume, who is the Obi

of Igbodo Kingdom, incurred the wrath of his people when he initially concluded plans to marry a woman from Ebonyi State. His subjects launched an attack on him saying it was against the traditions of the kingdom.
The issue is causing ripples between the monarch and his people, leading to the whole community boycotting the palace indefinitely over the Obi’s alleged uncompromising stand since the past two years. According to a letter addressed to the Deputy Governor of the state, Prof. Amos Utuama and signed by Joseph I. Unomah, the Iyase of Igbodo Kingdom, Obi is allegedly disregarding and subverting “the cherished custom and tradition of the people.
“The custom and tradition of our people is that the Obi must marry a woman from Igbodo Kingdom, who will give birth to the heir to the throne of Igbodo Kingdom.” The letter, a copy of which was obtained by Daily Sun in Asaba, added that once the king had an heir from a woman in the community, the Obi could marry whoever else he chrose.
“Your Excellency, this is the crux of the matter. For over two years, the whole community has implored HRM to reason with us and keep our tradition to no avail. This uncompromising stand of HRM is a serious threat to peace, harmony and future unity of our community.
This threat to the custom and tradition of our people looks minor, but I can assure you that it has potentials to bring about results of very serious proportion if not nipped in the bud,” the letter further stated. The letter appealed to the deputy governor to urgently wade into the traditional impasse between the monarch and his people to avoid a face-off that could lead to the rejection of the king by the community.
Although, the monarch could not be reached to react to the allegation against him, sources close to him insisted that Obi Osadume is a Christian who is entitled to only one wife, according to Biblical injunction.

Photos: Man Caught On Camera Carrying The Corpse Of 15-Month-Old Girl He Sexually Abused

barry1

Cradled in his arms, Barry McCarney is caught on CCTV desperately trying to bring his girlfriend’s dying daughter back to life.

But the haunting footage, captured in Erne Hospital, in Northern Ireland, disguises the horrific reality of what has just happened.

McCarney is no desperate father giving the kiss of life to his 15-month-old step-child. Instead, he is the perverted monster who abused Millie Martin so badly that she died of her injuries.

Yesterday, a judge sitting at Dungannon Crown Court branded the 33-year-old’s crimes despicable. He described the December 2009 murder as ‘almost beyond understanding.’

McCarney, from County Tyrone, met Millie’s mother Rachael Martin just three months before the little girl’s death.

He quickly eased his way into the family home in Enniskillen which allowed him access to Millie.

During a ten-week trial, the court heard how he had physically and sexually abused the toddler until she was left with a number of fatal injuries, including the head wound that killed her.

barry2

barry4 barry3

A pathologist found that Millie had suffered 21 cracked ribs, seven of which were old, while the rest had happened in the ten days before her death.

Multiple bruises were also found on the youngster’s body along with a clearly visible oval shaped bump on her forehead.

During the post-mortem examination, the pathologist found injuries to her abdomen caused by punching or prodding which would also have been fatal.

Millie had also been sexually assaulted. The prosecution described the attacks on her as vile and sadistic.

McCarney blamed Millie’s mother Rachael, claiming at trial that she had inflicted the injuries on her own daughter and that he was sickened by her death.

Speaking only through his barrister, he alleged that Ms Martin did not want social services involved because she had done these ‘terrible things’ herself.

But in a case with no forensic evidence to suggest who inflicted Millie’s injuries, the jury rejected McCarney’s claims and accepted that Ms Martin had unwittingly let a monster into her home, taking just three hours to reach a unanimous verdict.

He was found guilty of murder, sexual assault and causing grievous bodily harm.

Ms Martin sobbed as she was cleared of allowing her daughter’s death through willful neglect. She was heard to say that justice had been done for her daughter.

McCarney’s relatives shouted ‘innocent’ as they left the courtroom. Meanwhile Ms Martin’s family issued a statement saying the family would now be able to grieve properly as a result of the verdict.

They described the last three years as a ‘waking nightmare’ and described McCarney as a ‘disgusting individual’.

They also questioned why Ms Martin was ever prosecuted in the first place.

Her brother, Matthew, speaking on behalf of the family said the police decision to prosecute her was ‘shocking’ at a time when she should have been left to grieve for Baby Millie.

McCarney will be sentenced in the New Year.

Neil Anderson, head of the NSPCC, said Millie will be remembered as the victim of ‘one of the most horrific cases of child abuse Northern Ireland has ever seen’.

He added: ‘One clear message from this deeply disturbing case is the need for vigilance among healthcare professionals, family, friends, neighbours and the community as a whole.

‘It is vitally important that everyone who has a role in working with and caring for children is aware of the signs of abuse. It is also essential that having recognised the signs of abuse that appropriate and timely action is taken.’

Mr. Ibu Says “STOP WORSHIPING YOUR PASTORS” — See Why

Mr.-Ibu

STUPIDITY is when you don’t have a bicycle and you give your last penny to your pastor to buy a jet.

MUMU is when you can’t pay your children’s school fees and yet have money to contribute to your church to build expensive schools which your children will never attend..

IDIOCY is when you refuse to take your very sick child to the hospital because your pastor said you should not do so, yet that same pastor secretly runs to USA for medical attention any time he has a
headache.

KOLO is when you see a poor beggar on the road and you refuse to give him 50 naira out of the 5000 naira in your pocket because it is your tithe money….

YOU are a zombie when you trek, dance and gallivant for 30 kilometers under the hot
sunsweating and smelling like poo during your revival program, while your pastor is inside a full
option, factory fitted air-conditioned state of the art SUV with his delectable wife slow driving along the road.

IGNORANCE is when you believe it when your
pastor tells you not to live a worldly life, yet he enjoys all the best things in the world;the fine houses, cars, jets, babes etc, while you are waiting till you get to heaven to enjoy your own….

Stop worshiping your pastors!!! Stay focused on Jesus The author and finisher of your Faith. And learn to study the word. – John Okafor (Nollywood).

25-Year-Old Student Strippéd Naked For Sleeping With Married Man

bb45d1ef1c99d892c1d8dc5e60a7f40a

There was drama in Chitungwiza on Monday morning when a married man was caught with a lover after taking advantage of his wife’s one night absence.

Leonard Gandari’s wife had gone to Banket where she was attending a funeral and Leonard deemed that as a golden opportunity to ‘import’ a ‘prostitute’ into their matrimonial house in Zengeza 4, in the presence of his wife’s siblings.

The lover was identified as Memory Mupindu (25) and she was strippéd by angry neighbours after the couple overslept and Leonard was late to ‘deport’ his catch before co-tenants and his wife’s siblings had woken up.

Memory refused to be labeled a prostitute arguing that she had been made to believe that Leonard was single hence she slept comfortably up to the time when neighbours were sweeping their yards.

“I’m not a prostitute but we were in love. We met two weeks ago and he told me that he was not married and he stays with his sisters. We came together yesterday night without any idea that things will generate into such chaos. I am in form four at herentals college in Chitungwiza,” said the woman as tears rolled down her cheeks.

Leonard could not give his side of the story as he fled. Neighbours saw Memory trying to scale over the pre-cast wall in a bid to escape after realising that she had overslept. She was however, unlucky and was thoroughly beaten up and strippéd.

“It is the wife’s young sister who smelt a rat and woke up and Memory sensed danger and tried to escape but in vain,” narrated one of the neighbours.

Angry residents went on to call Leonard’s wife identified as Mirriam Chinduta who arrived at the scene and found the scene still ‘fresh’. The wife broke into the house to find the alleged prostitute on her sofas.

Residents were bitter that Leonard abuses his wife by regularly assaulting her which he confirmed by again assaulting her after she confronted him over the issue. Mirriam reportedly sought refuge at a nearby house in fear of being attacked.

The seemingly too violent Leonard tried to attack the news crew but shied away from the lenses.

Fearing the mob, largely made up of the fairer séx, Leonard locked himself in the house, leaving his mistress to face the music. A close source said Leonard sneaked the O-Level student into the house around 9pm and at around 11pm, his wife’s sister and children heard voices in the bedroom.

“We were seated in the house and at around 11pm we heard voices and sent in his young child who told us that there was a lady on his bed.

We went in but we couldn’t find her because she was hiding. We woke up at around 4am and sat in the dining room and he (Leonard) was just milling around and he could not go to work, which made us suspicious and we guarded the gate.

Later we heard our neighbour screaming that there was someone on the wall and we saw her and caught her,” revealed the mole.

Christmas Season: Prostitutes Hike Price, Plan To Hold End Of The Year ‘Free Sex’ Promo In Lagos

e01771423782c6aced4589973e8996c7

The yuletide season is here again and everybody is doing everything best to make it memorable. For commercial séx workers, popularly known as prostitutés, it is time to use what they have to get what they want.

Just as prices of goods and services have gone up, the legion of women in the bed-to-wealth business have also hiked the price of their services.

Prostitutés, especially those who are resident in brothels have doubled their charges.

This was revealed when DailyPost visited some selected brothels in the commercial city of Lagos. While some new comers in the business are lamenting that people no longer patronize them because of the new hike in price, others are of the opinion that it was a welcome development, stressing that it is not a threat to them.

According to a top member of the Association of Nigerian Prostitutés who wouldn’t want her name mentioned, the new increment would enable its members meet up with their end of the year targets.

She said: “we didn’t do that to punish anybody; we all agreed to increase our price this season. If you check very well, some things in the market have gone up, it is not the price we bought rice in January that we are buying now, virtually everything has gone up. So it is not a crime if we increase our price for just this season,”she said.

The young lady in her late 30s who claimed she’s from Enugu state added that it was agreed during their national meeting.

It was during the national meeting we came up with that idea of new price and end of the year promo for customers.

Asked what they would use in compensating their customers this festive season, the fair-complexion lady said:

“Our customers know how we do it, but this year it is going to be different. Aside offering them free séx as part of the end of the year promo, we still have other things in stock for them especially our recognised and registered customers.

When probed further on what they will give them, the lady angrily said: “All these questions self, if na f**k you want drop money make I nack you wella. All this time wey you dey take ask me we for don go like 3 rounds sef. If you really want to be part of the end of the year free séx promo, just register and you will enjoy all the benefits.

On the newly fixed price, the lady said it depends on areas: “In places like Ikoyi, Lekki and V/I, the charges are more because of the kind of people living in those areas. But in places like Ejigbo, Obalende or Oshodi the charges will be low. But the new law this season is that you don’t charge below 500 hundred naira per round.”

On how they would know if any members is charging below the agreed price, the lady who claimed she’s been in the business for 13 years said: “That is simple now, especially for those in brothels, if you are not yet established, you still deliver some amount to the person that introduced you into the business. We’ve had some situation whereby if you bring someone and the person gets a good customer, she will just forget you. But now we have a new law, if I bring you, there is a certain amount you will deliver either on weekly on a daily basis.

Like now, I have like seven girls in the business and they all pay me some certain percentage every week.

I only do outside job, I no longer stay in a hotel.

Recently I was in Kano to service a top politician there.

When this reporter became so inquisitive to know who the politician is, the lady said: “Wait oo, why all this question sef, shey na because of the bottle of Legend cigarette na em make you wan carry question kill me? I no dey talk again until you pay me.”

But this idea is not comfortable for Sharom, another 20-year-old prostituté who came into the business in July, she confirmed the that there’s hike in price. “Me I’m no longer comfortable with idea of hiking our price. As I’m talking to you now, no customer has even patronized me and I have target to meet.

“I’m travelling before Christmas and I don’t have much on ground. I just tire”.

Asked why she opted to proostitution while they are other jobs out there, the diminutive lady said: “I have OND in Catering and Hotel management, but when I applied here for a job and they didn’t offer me, my contact told me about this job and I found myself in it.

Through this job, I have bought a bus and sponsoring my younger ones in school. I don’t regret going into the business, God sef know say job no dey town.

This reporter visited another popular brothel in Oshodi but stakeholders in the flesh trade industry declined comment, saying that they are not aware of the new price hike.

Another 45-year-old grandma observed that the new increment has really affected their business. She said that with the planned end of the year free séx bonanza, they expected customers to patronize them. “Business is no longer going as usual and I think the reason is because we effected our price, ours shouldn’t be exception because it is common everywhere.

Everything has gone up because of the festive period. They should consider the stress we go through in servicing them, it not easy.” She argued.

On when will the promo take place, she said, “That one is exclusive to our customers, if you are interested, just let us know.”

Another bomb yesterday evening, exploded in the ancient city of Kano, injuring unspecified number of persons and passengers.. Details of the blast were sketchy as at press time but Daily Sun gathered

that the incident occurred after two unidentified young men hurled two improvised explosive devices at a luxury bus that was travelling out of the state.

The suspects escaped thereafter before the security could take over the scene of the attack. It was gathered that the blast happened around the popular Zaria Roundabout by Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano area, after the luxury vehicle had come off the roundabout and was on the Express road driving out of the state.

The blast subsequently resulted into a traffic gridlock on the Expressway as the officers of the Joint Security Task Force (JTF) in the state cordoned off the road forcing the traffic to take to nearby roads to make their transit. Efforts to reach the spokesman of the Joint Security Task Force, Lt. Ikedeche Iweha and the spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force, ASP Magaji Majiya for comments were unsuccessful. Recall that a similar blast occurred on Monday along the famous IBB way in the state capital, injuring a policeman, an FRSC officers and a traffic officer in the employ of the state government.

Nigerian drug lord caught in Malaysia

Police cripple international syndicate with arrest of seven foreigners
Police in Malaysia have crippled an international drug syndicate with connections in at least six countries with the arrest of six

Nigerian men and a Thai woman here.
The Bukit Aman narcotics division has also discovered a new method by the syndicate to smuggle drugs in and out of the country.
The syndicate used drug mules, mostly women from Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and China, who were paid between US$2,000 (RM6,086) and US$3,000 (RM9,129) for each trip.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Chief Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the women were lured by the Nigerian men to become drug mules through social networking websites while some were recruited from their outings in night clubs.
“These women were fully aware of what they were getting into, and they became repeat offenders after they successfully completed one trip,” he said.
After six-month surveillance, police identified a 28-year-old Nigerian who masterminded the syndicate.
Noor Rashid said police investigations were slowed down by the slick mastermind who kept a low profile.
“It was difficult for us to get him as he moved around in taxis and constantly changed his place of residence,” he said.
He also said that drug mules, aware that security had been tightened at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, had changed their routes.
The six men and Thai woman were arrested following a special operation on Sunday night.
“The seven were detained in Puchong, Selayang and Kota Damansara.”
The mastermind was caught when police ambushed an apartment in Kota Damansara, where police seized 4.9kg of heroin and 85gm of syabu worth a total of RM250,000.
All seven are being remanded. (mmail.com)

Flash! Do-It-Yourself? Official To Residents: “Lock Your Doors And Load Your Guns” After Police Budget Was Cut

City Attorney James F. Penman used his comment period at Monday’s City Council meeting to defend an earlier comment that residents worried about crime should “lock your doors and load your guns,” saying similar advice has proven correct before.
Penman clarified that he wasn’t speaking to people who aren’t comfortable with firearms or have children — from teens to toddlers — in the home, and he said he opposed vigilantism.
But he doubled down on the substance of the advice, first given at a community meeting Nov. 28: Police cutbacks and rising crime mean residents must take responsibility for their own safety.
“The problem is serious,” Penman said. “The Police Department will do everything it can to protect you. … But they can’t do everything they would like.”
The city’s pendency plan — its budget for 2012-13 and 2013-14 — doesn’t include money to refill vacant officer positions if at least 260 sworn officers stay on the force. That’s down 80 from the department’s peak employment and compares to 268 this month.
Meanwhile, 46 people have been killed in San Bernardino this year, compared to 29 at the end of November 2011.
The highest number of homicides in recent years was 58 in 2005, a peak Penman said he predicted weeks earlier after police told him they were understaffed.
But people are safe, said Police Chief Robert Handy — there are as many patrol officers on the streets today as there have been in recent years, and police respond to emergency calls within 5 minutes.
“I do not agree that we have a Police Department that cannot respond adequately,” Handy said. “I take exception to the lack of confidence that’s portrayed of our Police Department and being drug into a political issue.”
No one responded to Penman’s comments during Monday’s meeting, but Councilman Fred Shorett — who heard the original statement — said afterward they were inappropriate.
“I think it’s the wrong message to be sending to our citizenry,” said Shorett, who said a few residents have complained to him about the remarks.
“I’m an NRA member and a hunter, but I don’t think it’s our place to be publicly suggesting people lock and load.”
Councilwoman Wendy McCammack, who hosted the crime-focused forum where Penman made his original statement, said at Monday’s meeting that a resident told her he had called police as he watched a burglary but waited more than 3 hours before police showed up.
Handy said he texted McCammack immediately afterward to get the details of what she’d heard, because protocol is to send officers immediately to a crime in progress and that is normally done.

Hundreds of Russian girls ‘sexually harassed’ on Skype in massive pedophilia case

Russian police have arrested a man suspected in a serial pedophilia case. The suspect allegedly sexually harassed hundreds of young girls using the Skype video chat program.
Dmitry Zhidkov, a 29-year-old paramedic, has partially confessed the charges, saying he was in contact with one girl through Skype. However, he insisted that the sexually explicit and pornographic video chat was consensual.
An investigation revealed that on May 11, Zhidkov called an 10-year-old girl on Skype and sexually harassed her during their video conversation by asking her to undress and persuading her to masturbate in front of the camera.
The girl eventually confessed to her mother, who reported the incident to the police. Investigators began searching the social network Zhidkov used to contact the victim, and soon found him.
After Zhidkov’s arrest, police seized his laptop, which contained contact information for some 450 girls across Russia, all between 8 and 13 years old.
According to the investigation, Zhidkov found his victims through Russian social network Vkontakte and started conversations with them using a fake female identity. After establishing contact, he offered a photoshoot for a fashion magazine for which he asked girls to undress.
The suspect recorded his victims undressing and then blackmailed them, threatening to distribute the video among their friends and classmates unless they fully undressed and masturbated for him, police said.
Zhidkov’s most obedient victims received some monetary payment from him, Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper reported, but it is unclear how that money was transferred.
The arrest and sexual harassment charges came as a shock for Zhidkov’s family, who described him as a family man and a caring father of two. Although divorced from his wife, Zhidkov reportedly maintained a good relationship with her and often visited his two children.
His ex-wife Irina flatly denied the allegations: “Relatives haven’t seen anything, because the computer was seized. But nobody believes this,” she said. “Our son Danila is 10 tomorrow. He waits for his father with a present, and the daughter is crying all the time and wants to see him.”
Zhidkov’s family has hired a lawyer to work on release.
This is not the first case of child sexual harassment involving Skype, but the first case of such scale in Russia. A year ago, Moscow police arrested a man who dialed random phone numbers and, if a child picked up the phone, proposed that they call each other on Skype; during the conversation, he showed his genitals to his victims.

Clubs dissolve Nigeria Premier League board

In a meeting held on Tuesday night, 16 clubs in the Nigeria Premier League, passed a vote of no confidence on the board of the NPL. After the meeting which was held at Dennis Hotel in Abuja, the clubs dissolved the board of the NPL and appointed an interim committee, to oversee the league for two months.

52-year-old woman gives birth after 25 years marriage

At 52, when some women have already become grandmothers, the case of Mrs. Olukorede Obamo, a teacher in Ogun State, is different.

Olukorode who got married 25 years ago just had her first child last week.

Like other women in that kind of position, she had visited hospitals, herbal centres and countless other places; yet to no avail.

When in February this year, she conceived for the first time, she found it difficult to comprehend her body chemistry.

Not able to conceal the development, she told her husband, Moses Obamo, an accountant with Medexia Nigeria Limited, Lagos.

Without wasting time, Moses, took her to a hospital for pregnancy test. At the hospital, it was confirmed that she was indeed pregnant.

In disbelief, they went to other hospitals to reconfirm the result of the test done by the first hospital, and it was positive.

Thereafter, Olukorede started to nurture the pregnancy and nine months, precisely November 13, she was delivered of a baby girl.

Since the news of her birth spread in the neighbourhood, the entire residents turned the home of the Obamos into a Mecca.

When PUNCH Metro visited the Obamos during the baby’s christening last week Wednesday, an army of visitors thronged the venue.

Expectedly, the Obamos threw a lavish party to celebrate the baby who was given more than 20 names, but the most striking of all the names is Obadunsin (It is good to serve God).

During an interview with Olukorede, she said the bundle of joy had stirred up her trust in God and reinforced her belief in spousal love.

She however said she would not forget in a hurry the psychological trauma she went through during the trying times.

Olukorede said, “It was a tough experience; I did not find it easy. I am still in my husband’s house because God is with me.

“We fought times without number but God settled us. My husband relations did not give me a breathing space; they always reminded me they needed a child.

“Curiously, my husband and I went through a series of tests and the results were that nothing was wrong with the two of us.

“At a point, I lost hope. I was in a dilemma as to the next line of action to take. My fear got to a head when I was approaching 50 and my menstrual period became irregular. In the midst of my trouble, some Christian sisters advised me to focus on God and that I should cast my burden upon God alone. Ever since that time, I focused on God more than ever before. I thank God he has given me a child at last. He has removed reproach from me.”

She said she usually carried out her medical check-ups at General Hospital, Ile Epo, Lagos, but she was eventually delivered by a nurse who is a pastor at Christ Apostolic Church in Ota, Ogun State.

“The nurse used herbs for me in addition to prayers,” Olukorede said.

She urged other women in a similar situation not to give up hope, advising them to have absolute confidence in God.

On his part, Moses expressed gratitude to God for wiping tears off their eyes. He said after a year they married without any sign of conception, they started taking drugs.

Ten years after their marriage, coupled with the fact that people had started to call them names, Moses tried his ‘luck’ outside wedlock. This experiment produced two love children – a boy and a girl.

“I was under serious pressure from some of my family members to divorce her. At a point, my people were divided on that because some of them really liked her because she is accommodating and caring.

“But when some people started to say it openly in my presence that I was impotent, I decided to play an ‘away match’ to prove them wrong. In the process I had two children.”

He said one thing that could not be taken away from his wife is her unwavering faith in God, stressing that she participated in all the church activities, particularly the one meant for the expectant mothers.

A gynecologist, Dr. Ekunjimi Olanrewaju, said though it was not a common event, nevertheless, it was not impossible for a woman of Olukorede’s age to give birth to a baby.

Olanrewaju said any woman still seeing her menses could get pregnant irrespective of her age.

He, however, said most Nigerian women entered menopause between the ages of 48 and 52.

“It is possible. There is nothing impossible under the sun. However, it is not a common event. Any woman who is seeing her period, no matter the age, can still get pregnant,” Olanrewaju said.

Vice President Namadi Sambo to get a N2billion home

Our Vice President is getting a home worth N2 billion from the government of Nigeria. There’s a N50bn budget for the Federal Capital Territory and N2bn, according to the FCT Minister Bala Mohammed, is going into the construction of the official residence of Vice President Namadi Sambo, while N300 million is for the construction of the official residences of Senate president David Mark and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu; the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal; and his deputy, Emeka Ihedioha.

So my question is; if they are building new homes for these people, where were they living before now? First a N2bn 150-seater banquet hall, now a N2bn home for the VP. This is the priority of the Government of a country where more than half the population live on under $1 a day. #Standingovation

Oh and Julius Berger is handling the home construction, with 20 months as completion period.

My Employer Assaulted Me – Female Youth Corps Member Fights Back

A female National Youth Service Corps member has taken the fight to her employer for allegedly assaulting her and plagiarising her work.

Mary Agbo, 28 has waited for over a month for the first signs of justice for an wrong she says no woman should ever have to face violence against women in the workplace.
On August 1, 2012, Agbo began her NYSC primary duty with the Garki Gazette, an Abuja-based weekly lifestyle and events publication, located within the premises of Eddy-Vic Hotels on Ahmadu Bello Way, Garki II, Abuja. By August 17, Emmanuel Abanah, the magazine’s publisher and owner of Eddy-Vic Hotels confirmed her as the Editor of the publication “having satisfied preliminary conditions for the job”, he wrote in her letter of engagement.
But on November 1, she filed a complaint at the Garki Police station against Abanah, 35, for allegedly assaulting her after she requested a Performance Certificate, the necessary documentation corps members must obtain from their employers monthly, and mandatorily submit to the NYSC to be entitled to their government allowance. She reported the assault to the NYSC on the same day and asked to be reposted from Garki Gazette citing fear for her life and an unsafe work conditions.
“He slapped me and pushed me, I hit my ear hard on an iron fence by his garden. He started dragging my top (white NYSC vest) and my breast came out,” Agbo told the Police. “He brought out his hand again and slapped me. He called his manager and assistant to send me out of the premises which they did”.
Agbo explained the events of November 1. In the morning while attending her Community Development group meeting, she was advised to submit her PC the same day as NYSC officials would be busy with the new batch of corps members resuming the following week. Back at the office which was locked, both Ada, Abanah’s assistant, and Sharks, the magazine’s production manager advised she call the publisher. After several unanswered calls and an SMS, Abanah alighted from his hotel room rude and shouting at her for disturbing him. As she tried explaining herself, he began beating her in anger, Agbo said.
A medical report from the Asokoro General Hospital signed by Dr. C.N Okoli stated Agbo “presented with generalized body pain, headache, earache, dizziness, and tinge of blood in the right eye”.
The Garki Police went to Abanah’s office that same day, but met his absence. It however became clear he had gone into hiding after he failed to turn up following several other visits to his office and calls inviting him to the station. A warrant for his arrest was subsequently obtained.
Two reasons are at the root of the assault, Agbo says. She had severally asked Abanah to pay her salary and that of the magazine’s contributing journalists being owed months in arrears. This displeased him tremendously. Also, her refusal to concede to her employer’s sexual advances irked him further, she said.
The NYSC at a zonal level launched an investigation. A source within the NYSC who asked not to be named provided the internal report with the findings from the investigation. Though Abanah had refused to see the investigating officer, staff of Garki Gazette and Eddy-Vic Hotels confided “he [Abanah] has been treating them the same that he pays them salary whenever he feels like and they do not have the right to ask him”.
“Based on the information about this man, shows that he is a very irresponsible man,” The NYSC investigating officer reported. “I advise that the corper should be withdrawn from serving in this establishment and be reposted, and all possible measures should be taken to make him for his reactions. He has no right to treat her this way.”
Abanah on his own then petitioned the NYSC State Coordinator on November 12 accusing Agbo in a four-page letter of “poor parental upbringing” and being “desperate, devious, and dubious and a calculated and cold liar that thinks everybody wants to flirt with her”. He added he has no regards for the Garki Police station and was therefore taking his case against Agbo to the Commissioner of Police of the Federal Capital Territory.
“The publisher did not want a heehaw affair with a desperate woman whom he has been feeding in a local police station,” Abanah said.
“Miss Agbo has been given a fair option of proceeding to a court of law with her claims, but will not be granted the excessiveness of a shouting match with her employer at a local police station.”
Abanah in a calculated move petitioned the Commissioner of Police of the Federal Capital Territory. But contrary to what he told the NYSC, he claimed Agbo was using police officers from the Garki Police station to threaten him. He asked the case be transferred to the FCT Police command, apparently to avoid being charged to court. On November 30, Agbo was invited as an accused to make her report. She was detained and only released after her sister stood bail for her.
By December 3, when the FCT Police Command was presented with Abanah’s subsisting arrest warrant from the Garki Police station, and it was also discovered the contradicting motives Abanah had declared in his letters to the Police, and the NYSC for refusing to honour the Police invitation, he was arrested with the Garki Police Station taking him into their custody.
Speaking to Abanah while in detention behind the Police counter, he said a recent case of murder in his hotel involving an alleged prostitute in October and his unwillingness to continually bribe officers of the Garki Police station led him to refuse to honour their respective invitations. Abanah denied assaulting Agbo, but claimed she was out to tarnish his image. He described Agbo as erratic and unproductive who for three weeks failed to come to work for no apparent reason only to resurface asking him to sign her NYSC Performance Certificate.
Abanah’s staff when questioned separately however debunked his claims, instead stating Abanah had failed to provide a conducive work space for them. A visit to Garki Gazette premises revealed the only furnished office is Abanah’s office, which doubles as his office as Eddy-Vic Hotels managing director, located on the ground floor of the hotel facing the main entrance. Another space for staff remains under construction.
To further puncture his claims, Agbo, the former sub-editor of the Charly Boy magazine, provided evidence of the eight editions she oversaw as editor of the Garki Gazette, with her by-line and image featured on the editorial page.
Agbo also accuses Abanah of plagiarism. Despite not giving her a termination letter, he removed her by-line from the magazine’s 54th issue which was her ninth edition which she said she wrote 16 out of 32 pages and edited before its publication 3rd-9th November 2012. A copy of the said publication reveals Abanah replaced Agbo’s name as editor with Kaila Budango, his pen name. He removed Agbo’s image from the editorial page, but published her remarks “word for word”, passing it off as his own, she said.
Late in the evening of December 3, the Police in Garki ushered a visibly humbled Abanah into a police cell after asking him to undress and declare all his belongings on him. He spent the night and was charged to court on December 4th 2012 for resisting Police arrest.
Abanah’s friends, since his arrest, have been pleading with Agbo and her family to let peace reign and withdraw her case currently with the FCT Police Command. Agbo said she has to consult with her lawyer and rights groups which took up her case before taking a decision. She however underscored conditions Abanah must meet.
“One he has to write back to NYSC to retract the lies he wrote about me. Two, he has to write an undertaking nothing will happen to me because he knows where I live,” Agbo said. “And since my contract is not terminated, he must pay my arrears and that of other staff he owes their salary.”

Eddie Murphy Tops Our List Of The Most Overpaid Actors In Hollywood

Poor Eddie Murphy desperately needs a comeback. Remember back in the day when he was so funny on Saturday Night Live and in movies like Trading Places and Beverly Hills Cop? His voice work has helped make movies like Shrek and Mulan tolerable for adults, and even his family-friendly movies, like Norbit and Dr. Dolittle, were good for some chuckles.

Click for full photo gallery: Hollywood’s Most Overpaid Stars
But lately, Murphy’s career has just collapsed. Imagine That, A Thousand Words and Meet Dave were colossal flops. Last year’s Tower Heist, which was supposed to be something of a return to form for the comedian, failed to wow at the box office, earning $153 million on an estimated budget of $75 million. (In order to even come close to turning a profit, a movie has to earn twice its production budget in ticket sales, plus the millions spent on marketing.) Murphy then backed out of hosting the Oscars, which didn’t help his reputation.
His string of flops lands Murphy at the top of our Most Overpaid Actors list for 2012. We estimate that for every $1 Murphy was paid for his last three films, they returned an average of $2.30 at the box office.
To compile our list, we used data on actors’ earnings gathered for our Celebrity 100 list. Box office grosses and budget estimates are from Box Office Mojo. We looked at the last three films each actor starred in over the last three years that opened in more than 2,000 theaters, calculating the return on investment for the studios who pay his (or her) salary.
Ranking second behind Murphy is a newcomer to our list: Katherine Heigl. For every dollar she was paid on her last three movies, they earned an average of $3.40.
After hits like Knocked-Up, 27 Dresses and The Ugly Truth, Heigl’s quote shot up to the $12 million range. Unfortunately, the films she’s made at that price point have failed to deliver. Her most recent film, One For The Money, earned only $37 million on an estimated $40 million budget. Heigl needs to step away from the expensive star vehicles and rebuild her career. Her next release is the ensemble pic The Big Wedding, which hits theaters in April. Featuring Robert DeNiro, Susan Sarandon and Amanda Seyfried, the movie could give Heigl a chance to show how funny she can be when the pressure is off.
In past versions of our overpaid actors roundup, we looked at each actor’s films over the last five years. This year, we cut back to the last three years to give the list a more contemporary focus.
That dropped Drew Barrymore from the top 10, but not because she has anchored any smashes lately. Barrymore was our worst-performing actor last year — her films earned only 40 cents for each $1 she was paid. However she hasn’t starred in three big releases over the last three years. We don’t count ensemble films where there is no clear star like Barrymore’s 2009 film He’s Just Not That Into You, which was actually a hit.
Reese Witherspoon ranks third on our list with an average $3.90 return for every $1 she was paid. Witherspoon is one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood, but her choices lately have been questionable, like 2010′s How Do You Know. With a ridiculously high budget of $120 million — a big chunk of which went to salaries for Witherspoon and big-name co-stars Paul Rudd, Jack Nicholson and Owen Wilson — the romantic comedy never had a chance of turning a profit. It grossed just $49 million at the box office, making it one of the worst-performing films of 2010.
Her most recent film, This Means War, didn’t help much. The $65 million action comedy did OK, earning $157 million worldwide, but it wasn’t enough to get Witherspoon off of our most overpaid list.
Sandra Bullock makes a surprise entry in fourth place with a $5 return for every $1 she was paid. In 2009 Bullock starred in one of the biggest films of the year, The Blind Side. Not only did it earn $310 million at the box office globally, it was made for just $30 million, making it one of the most profitable films of the year. It was also a big earner for Bullock, who had a profit-sharing deal on the project. But her two other films of the last three years were stinkers: All About Steve and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
Rounding out the top five is Jack Black, whose films returned only $5.20 for every $1 he was paid.  Last year’s comedy The Big Year barely registered at the box office. Big-name stars like Black, Steve Martin and Owen Wilson couldn’t overcome poor reviews and a less than sexy topic — birdwatching. It earned only $7 million.

Nigerian Billionaire Oil Tycoon, Folorunsho Alakija replaces Oprah Winfrey as the World’s Richest Black Woman – Ventures Africa

Ever since her mention in the recent Forbes Africa feature as one of the richest women in Africa, Nigerian billionaire oil tycoon, Fashion designer and philanthropist, Folorunsho Alakija has captured the attention of many as someone to watch out for. Now, another online publication, Ventures Africa has ranked her as the World’s Richest Black Woman. According to the report, she has ousted Oprah Winfrey from the position.

Ventures Africa claims that contrary to  the Forbes Magazine ranking which pegs her net worth at only $600 million, Alakija is actually worth at least $3.3 billion. She earned most of her wealth from the oil and gas sector.

Alakija, 61, started out her professional career in the mid 70s as a secretary at the now defunct International Merchant Bank of Nigeria, one of the country’s earliest investment banks. In the early 80s, she quit her job and went on to study Fashion design in England, returning to Nigeria shortly afterwards to start Supreme Stitches, a premium Nigerian fashion label which catered exclusively to upscale clientele.

In May 1993 Alakija applied for an allocation of an Oil Prospecting License (OPL). The license to explore for oil on a 617,000 acre block – (now referred to as OPL 216) was granted to Alakija’s company, Famfa Limited. In September 1996, she entered into a joint venture agreement with Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Texaco) and appointed the company as a technical adviser for the exploration of the license, transferring 40 percent of her 100 percent stake to Star Deep. Subsequently, Star Deep sold off 8 percent of its stake in OPL 216 to Petrobas, a Brazilian company. Folorunsho Alakija and her family owned 60 percent.

The Ventures Africa report also claimed that Alakija has a real estate portfolio worth over $100 million. Earlier this year, Nigerian and British media announced that Alakija acquired a property at One Hyde Park for $102 million.

She owns a Bombardier Global Express 6000 which she bought earlier this year for a reported $46 million. She is the founder of the Rose of Sharon foundation, a Christian-based charity which gives out small grants to widows.

Alakija is married to Modupe Alakija and they have four grown-up sons together. She also has a grandchild from her first son. Modupe Alakija, her husband is the Chairman of Famfa Oil. Her sons run the company.

World’s ‘oldest person’ Besse Cooper dies aged 116

Born in Tennessee, Besse Cooper moved to Georgia during World War I

The US woman listed as the world’s oldest person has died. She was 116.

Besse Cooper died peacefully on Tuesday at a nursing home near Atlanta, Georgia, said her son, Sidney Cooper.

She had recently been ill with a stomach virus, he added.

The Tennessee-born teacher had had her hair set on Tuesday morning and watched a Christmas video, but then suffered breathing problems, said Mr Cooper. She was put on oxygen but died a short while later.

“With her hair fixed it looked like she was ready to go,” Mr Cooper told the Associated Press news agency.

Ms Cooper was certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest person in January 2011.

The following May, Guinness discovered that a Brazilian woman, Maria Gomes Valentin, was 48 days older, but she died the following month.

Born in Tennessee, Besse Cooper moved to Georgia during World War I to look for work as a teacher.

Her funeral was likely to be held later this week, her son said.

Guinness said Ms Cooper is succeeded as the world’s oldest living person by fellow American Dina Manfredini from Iowa, who is 115.

The oldest person ever was French-born Jeanne Calment, who lived to be 122 before dying in 1997.

Flash: Israel Grants First Same-sex Divorce; Still Considers Same-sex Marriage Illegal

An Israeli court has awarded the country’s first divorce to a gay couple, which experts called an ironic milestone since same-sex marriages cannot be legally conducted in the Jewish state.
A decision this week by a family court in the Tel Aviv area “determined that the marriage should be ended” between former Israeli lawmaker Uzi Even, 72, and his partner of 23 years, Amit Kama, 52, their lawyer, Judith Meisels, said on Tuesday.
Legal experts see the ruling as a precedent in the realm of gay rights in a country where conservative family traditions are strong and religious courts oversee ceremonies like marriages, divorces and burials.
While Israel’s Interior Ministry still has the power to try and veto the decision, it would likely have to go court in order to do so, Meisels said.
A 2006 high court decision forced the same ministry, headed by an ultra-Orthodox cabinet member, to recognise same sex marriages performed abroad and ordered the government to list a gay couple wed in Canada as married.
Same sex marriages are performed in Israel, but they have no formal legal status.
“The irony is that while this is the beginning of a civil revolution, it’s based on divorce rather than marriage,” newly divorced Kama, a senior lecturer in communications in the Emek Yizrael College, said.
He and Even, both Israelis, married in Toronto in 2004, not long after Canada legalized same-sex marriage. They separated last year, Kama said.
It took months to finalize a divorce as they could not meet Canada’s residency requirements to have their marriage dissolved there. At the same time in Israel, rabbinical courts in charge of overseeing such proceedings threw out the case, Kama said.
By winning a ruling from a civil court, Kama and Even may have also set a precedent for Israeli heterosexual couples, who until now have had to have rabbis steeped in ancient ritual handle their divorces, legal experts say.
“This is the first time in Israeli history a couple of Jews are obtaining a divorce issued by an authority other than a rabbinical court, and I think there is significant potential here for straight couples” to do so as well, said Zvi Triger, deputy dean of the Haim Striks law school near Tel Aviv.
