According to an eye witness, who said he was in one of the ill-fated boats, the principal was returning from Calabar, the state capital, after an official trip to the Ministry of Education, when the incident occurred.

Ekpo said: “Prince Onoyom was returning from Calabar, where he went to sort out some issues concerning his school and came back a little late and boarded the boat at Okopedi heading to Eniong at 8 pm.”

He said the principal boarded the boat along with ten others, who were also going to Eniong and on the way, another boat coming from the opposite direction with about 20 passengers on top speed collided with the principal’s boat and the passengers in the two boats were flung into the river.

Steven Tshuma beat up his mother-in-law, only identified as Gogo Simangaphi (74). The incident took place on 20 November.

State prosecutor, Maxwell Hapanyengwi, told the court that on the day in question, the accused went to Simangaphi’s homestead and accused her of teaching his wife prostitution. When he got to the homestead, the son-in-law entered into his mother-in-law’s bedroom hut and dragged her by the hand.

Tshuma is said to have pushed the elderly woman out of the hut before descending on her several times with a lof. As a result of the beating, Gogo Simangaphi sustained serious injuries. Having completed ‘dealing’ with her, Tshuma proceeded to his grandmother, Sonny Tshuma’s homestead, where he demanded to see his wife.

He accused his grandmother (84) of hiding his wife in the bedroom. A misunderstanding between gogo Sonny and Tshuma ensued as a result of the accusations. To prove he meant ‘business’, Tshuma whipped his grandmother with a log and the old woman sustained serious injuries too as a result of the assault.

For his savage behaviour, Tshuma appeared before magistrate Ndumo Masuku where he pleaded guilty to charged that were levelled against him. He was convicted but sentence will be passed on 12 December.

Two School Students Caught Having Lesbian Sex, Bribe Teacher With Sex

Anglican run St James Girls High School has been hit by a lesbian “sex” scandal which has resulted in the expulsion of pupils, one of them for offering a teacher sex in exchange for lenience after being caught in the act.

The scandal reportedly started in June when two Form Six pupils were caught by fellow pupils in the middle of the night having a nice time under the sheets, BMetro reported. A report was made to school authorities.

After a probe, the two girls (names withheld) were suspended for two weeks. According to a source, the pupils showed remorse during the disciplinary hearing and promised to give up the lesbian antics. On returning to school after serving the sentence, the two are said to have kept a distance from each other.

“Everyone was convinced that they had indeed stopped their behaviour. They even stopped talking to each other and we all thought that the relationship was over. Little did we know that we were being fooled,” said a source.

Sometime in October, while the rest of the pupils were preparing for examinations, the two were making frantic efforts to resurrect their relationship.

“At a time when we thought they were finished for good, they started. They were spotted a number of times caressing each other in public and during the nights one of them would sneak into the other’s dormitory. Other pupils tipped the matron and a trap was laid leading to the two being caught having “lesbian sex,” said the source.

After they were caught, one of the girls is reported to have offered a senior male teacher sex in exchange for mercy. She had, however, gone overboard as the teacher did not take kindly to that and took up. the matter with the headmaster.

The gravity of the matter resulted in the headmaster Albert Ncube reporting the girls’ behaviour to the. Matabeleland North Provincial Education Director’s office who recommended that they be expelled.

“They were, however, not barred from writing examinations as they wrote all the papers coming from home,” said the source.

Acting Matabeleleland North Provincial Education Director Mr Mathias Luphahla confirmed the incident saying: “We handled such a case and the girls were expelled but I should hasten to emphasise that they were allowed to write examinations,” he said.

Lioness Kills Antelope, Adopts Its Child (PHOTOS)

lion

Nature photographer Adri De Visser captured some incredible scenes of lioness adopting a helpless baby antelope just after she killed its mother.
After eating a Ugandan Kob, the lioness noticed the orphaned baby. She started roaring to make it go away, however, later her maternal instincts took over, and she picked the baby antelope like it was her own cub.
While in some pictures it looks like the lioness is about to eat the calf, visitors in the Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda, later said that they saw the baby antelope running around…..More Pictures when you continue:

31 year old Woman sues her husband for ejaculatin*g on her face.

eja

A New York investment banker has been charged with ‘physical and psychological abuse’ that includes bizarre sex acts against his French ex-wife.

Miryam Allam, 31, claims she was subject to years of violence, including being forced into sex against her will and being burnt by a cigar.

Ms Allam is seeking unspecified damages from her high-rolling ex-husband, who she claims called her a ‘bitch’ and ‘ejaculated on her face’ when she refused to call him the ‘most powerful man in the world’.

‘Husband from hell’, financier Jason Myers, 44, is accused of assault, battery, false imprisonment and causing emotional distress.
The French native also claims Meyers, who called himself ‘Prince Charming’, tried to get her kicked out of the country.

Once, after she was slapped in the face and had her hair pulled in public, Meyers admitted to Ms Allam ‘that seeing her upset turned him on’, reports the New York Daily News.

The couple is believed to have met in Geneva in 2007, when Ms Allam was working as an assistant at Meyers’ private equity firm Aspatuck Holdings, which is based in Manhattan.
Meyers – who already had an ex-wife, Natasha Meyers, a divorce lawyer – wooed Ms Allam with lavish holidays and romantic dinners, reports the New York Daily News.
But the fairytale relationship soon came to an end.
Five months after they began dating, Meyers slapped Ms Allam after she complained they didn’t spend enough time together, she claims.

She alleges what then emerged was a pattern of abuse: physical and emotional violence followed by repeated apologies and gifts.
Ms Allam says she was given a daily allowance of $10 to $20 by Meyers, who is the CEO of the Aspatuck Holdings and TriMedia Entertainment Group.

She claims she was also prevented from speaking to her family and friends and was beaten and called a ‘prostitute’ for wearing make-up he didn’t like.
Once she found a photograph of Meyers and his first wife who ‘was wearing a very short black leather dress and holding a whip, and Jason had a mask with metal chains around his body’, according to the report.

Ms Allam says she was attacked after confronting Meyers with the image, who then ‘slapped her and ordered her never to touch it again’.

When Ms Allam fell pregnant in June 2009, she did not leave her then boyfriend despite her reports of his increasingly disturbed behaviour.
The couple married in a ceremony at New York’s City Hall on October 2, after he proposed at the Boathouse in Central Park.

Ms Allam stated that she stayed with Meyers because she thought he would see the error of his ways.

‘I trusted him and I loved him and I kept thinking things would change,’ she said.

But just two weeks after the wedding, Meyers was arrested for cutting Ms Allam’s face with glass at

his house in Huntington, Long Island.
Ms Allam says that when she once asked her then husband why he treated her badly, his response was as cruel as the violence he dealt out.

‘Don’t act like a dog if you don’t want to be treated like a dog’, she claims he said.

Meyers’ attorney, Steven Altman, told the jury at the trial that Ms Allam ‘frequently was drunk, out with other men and flaunting it in [Meyers'] face’.

The couple divorced on October 18 2009, fifteen days after they wed.

Crazy Photo!!! Lady mistakenly snaps her friend Unclad

o

Rumor has it that this picture was taken at BHEERHUGZ, Ikeja mall, but the authenticity of the story cannot be confirmed at this very point because of the nature of the source. It is a very funny co-incidence that such could happen when this lady was only interested in snapping herself as most ladies do when they are in a place obviously better than their domiciliary habitation. What do you say to that female Photographer there?

Ekiti State University,EKSU threatens to expel 10,000 students

Ekiti-State-University

The management of Ekiti State University EKSU, Ado-Ekiti have threatened to expel about 10,000 students who have not paid the mandatory reparation fee of N6, 500 and completed the screening exercise imposed on the students by the university on or before December 14th.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Oladipo Aina said this at a meeting held on Friday with principal officers of the institution.

It would be recalled that EKSU was closed down on September 28 following the violent demonstration of student triggered by the news of the death of a final year student of the Accountancy Department, Abiola Yusuf, who was knocked down by a vehicle, which led to the destruction of some buildings , looting of the livestocks from the university farm and burning of about ten vehicles.

The school authorities however reopened the institution on December 3rd with a strict condition on all its students to pay the reparation fee and undergo a screening exercise or lose their ‘studentship’ with the institution.

A source who pleaded anonymity said, “The university has fixed December 14 , 2012 for all students to conclude the screening exercise. Any student who fails to meet up with the deadline may lose his or her studentship.

“The screening exercise requires all students to submit a sworn affidavit of good conduct, letter of undertaking from their parents as well as receipts for payment of the reparation fee and evidence of payment of school fees, among other demands.

“Some of the students have complied with this directive and some are still undergoing the process. But about one third of the student population have not turned up and the university authorities have agreed that any student who neglects this directive would no longer be regarded as a student of EKSU.”

Confirming this development, the Deputy Registrar Information of EKSU, Mr. Olubunmi Ajibade assured that the authorities are firm on the ultimatum of the screening exercise, adding that there would be no going back on the strict condition.

DailyPost also gathered that the school authorities have beefed up security with operatives wearing plain clothes to monitor student activities both within and outside the school.

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde:I will always be sexy

Omotola Ekeinde is a familiar screen face. The actress and singer reveals more about her life in this interview

She sashayed into the room with her trademark confidence. All eyes were on her. With a big broad on her face, she agreed to an impromptu interview.

The opportunity to talk to Omotola Ekeinde was a rare one, coming on the heels of her decision to start a reality show on her private life.

“I am scared about the reality show but it is a risk I have to take, life is all about risks,” she says.

sexy-omotola1
Omo sexy, as she is fondly called, cannot forget her background in a hurry. She wanted to be a model but fate had other things in store for her.

She says, “I did not always aspire to be an actress, I started out as a model. It was tough then, modelling like every other part of entertainment was not developed and one had to wait forever to get a job. Plus, there were too many girls who wanted the same job. It was just a hobby for me.

“I thought if I wanted to do something for a career, it would be music because I sang in the choir and one could see the direction music was heading at the time. But I went into acting when I accompanied my friend who was a model to the casting of a movie. She did not get the part but she told me to try, I did and I got my very first movie role.”

sexy-omotola2
As a young girl, Ekeinde would tell you she was a mischievous little lady who enjoyed making trouble when no one was watching.

She says, “I was troublesome! Nothing too crazy though because my mum was extremely strict and I could not go all out to make trouble. But I would be the one to pinch or probably tear somebody’s dress somewhere. Then I had this sweet face so when they catch me I would deny, look very innocent and everybody would be petting me instead of punishing me.”

The saddest day of her life came when she lost her father at a young age.

She recalls, “It was the worst moment of my life till date. Even though I have lost my mum and my mum’s death too was very painful but I think, my dad’s death was more painful because I was very close to him. For a very long time I did not get along with my mum because of her disciplinary nature but I was very close to my dad because I was the only girl and the only child for a very long time. My dad was the manager of Lagos Country Club and I used to go to school at Chrisland Nursery School, Opebi.

Then we moved from Ikoyi to Iyana-Ipaja and since my house was far from the school, I would naturally go to Lagos Country Club to stay with my dad after school. When he died, it was like life left me, my younger brothers are quite younger than me so when my dad left me I did not have anybody. I was alone emotionally; I closed up. I did not mourn and I did not grieve. I was in shock for a very long time, I did not know what to do or where to go but when I saw the trauma my mum was going through, I just figured out I had to be the man.

“My mum was a petty trader then, she had a store where she sold drinks and pepper soup, but after my dad died, she started doing other things and I had to step up and help because she was going through a lot. ”

sexy-omotola4

But her story hasn’t been a sad one all through, meeting her husband, Matthew Ekeinde, who was 26 then, is one of her happy memories.

She enthuses, “I was 16 and really big for my age, I actually looked 20, I have always been very mature anyway, maybe because of the death of my father, I had to grow up quickly. So when he met me he actually thought I was older and when he got to know I was 16 he said ‘ah ha, what would I do with 16?’ So we became just friends but when I turned 18, he said ‘oh you are an adult now, will you marry me?’ I was like oh, hell no!

“He was a pilot then; he had been flying since the age of 17. It was not what attracted me to him. Actually that was a turn off for me. Before I met him, I wanted to be a pilot too at some point. Besides, I knew the lifestyle some of them lived; pilots had a reputation for having wives in each of the cities their planes landed! I told him I was not ready to be a caricature, I asked him- am I going to be your Lagos wife now?

“But I got to know him and his soul; everybody fell in love with him, because that is one way to gauge a guy, from what everybody says about him. Everybody, including my mum loved him.”

sexy-Omotola3
The couple has been together for 15 years and at a time when most celebrity marriages are crashing, Ekeinde attributes this feat to God.

Hear her: “We both have our foundation and that foundation is Christ. I am not too sexy to admit that. I will always be sexy. If it was just love it would have crashed a long time ago, there are times when you would not be in love. The fear of God as a higher power keeps everyone in check.

“When we fight, we don’t go for counseling because we don’t like discussing ourselves with other people. And we do fight, oh yes. Our fights are not even funny. I am a very vicious person, when I fight, I fight. But he is mature and he hardly gets angry, when he is angry, my madness has to give way. I don’t get angry when he is angry because it is not going to be pretty.”

So which of the children wants to be like her?

“All of them,” she says, referring to her two boys and two girls.

“They are all very independent minded. In my family we are all very strong minded people, we don’t treat them like they are kids, we talk to them like adults. The boys naturally want to be pilots. My second daughter is actually a fashionista. My first daughter is into church and prayers; she wants to be a journalist actually.”

Remind her that she still has the same youthful appearance she had when she was 18, she agrees,

“I don’t stress myself. I don’t wear makeup when I am not working. Nothing stresses me! I don’t get embarrassed, I have no shame. If I fall down here I will get up and tell everybody, ‘I don fall o! How we go come do am now?” She jokes.

What’s her favourite meal?

She says, “I just found out that fried plantain is not good. I skip meals, not because I am dieting but because I work all the time. Naturally, when you are doing this sort of job, you start to become very conscious. When they yab you and say ‘see your turkey hand,’ It will start to get to you. Then you will be forced to do some research to find out what your problems are and if you find out that dodo is part of your problems, you start working on it.”

Don’t call me General Obasanjo unless you’re my opponent, OBJ tells Ghanaian journalist

image6-412x300

The former president prefers to be called chief Obasanjo.

Nigeria’s former President and military Head of State, Olusegun Obasanjo, Saturday, felt embarrassed at being referred to as General Obasanjo by a Ghanaian journalist.

Mr. Obasanjo travelled to Ghana as Head of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS Observer Mission for the Ghanaian elections held on Friday.

During a press conference held on December 8 at Best Western Hotel, Accra, on the outcome of the election, the ECOWAS Mission presented its preliminary report, which was followed by a question and answer session.

One of the Mission’s recommendations, among several others, was the call for a media framework to “curtail” excesses of the media in election reporting. This is the first time in the history of ECOWAS observation exercise, that such recommendation will be made.

Out of consternation, a journalist in the gallery sought a further clarification on the recommendation regarding the media framework. His question was with a subtle message to the Head of Mission whom he addressed as General Obasanjo. The former president is a retired general of the Nigerian Army.

This was not lost on Mr. Obasanjo who, known for his outspokenness, rebuked the journalist.

“My friend, I don’t know why you address me as General Obasanjo. In Nigeria where I am the former president, it is my political opponents that address me as General Obasanjo when they want to show me as a dictator.

“My party calls me Chief Obasanjo. It now depends on which side you belong,” the former president said.

The whole room was thrown into uncontrollable laughter. In response to the request for him to expatiate on the demand for a media framework, the former president said he believes there should be a law to “curtail the excesses” of the Ghanaian media in the reportage of election process.

He went further to argue for a “right of information” as opposed to “freedom of information.”

Mr. Obasanjo as Nigerian President refused to sign the Freedom of Information bill passed by the National Assembly. The bill only became law in May 2011 when it was signed by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The General’s assessment and position contradicts popular verdict of independent, local and international observers of the election. The proactive, efficient, timely, accurate and popular reportage of development at polling units and transmission of verified results for public consumption is believed to be the missing recipe for transparent, popular, free and fair election in many African countries, including Nigeria.

Ghana has over 1500 FM radio stations, community radios inclusive. Correspondents and reporters are in polling units across the country, transmitting certified results live to their stations.

Obviously, this development irked Mr. Obasanjo who would have preferred the Nigerian system where only the Headquarters of the electoral commission can announce results, in many cases different from results recorded at polling units.

Four commercial bus robbers who drug and rob victims arrested in Lagos

commercial-bus-robbers-300x182

Four months after the murder of a post-graduate student of Nassarawa State University, Cynthia Osokogu by four men, five suspects have been arrested in Lagos for drugging and robbing commercial bus passengers at various points in the metropolis.

The suspects, Chibuike Mbakwe, Tochukwu Eze, Ifeanyi Okeke, Chidi Eze and Okechukwu Mbakwe are said to be members of a syndicate that specialises in robbing unsuspecting passengers in commercial buses by offering them sachet water laced with sedatives.

Last Tuesday, Chibuike, Eze and Okeke boarded a commercial bus in company with four others in the Ikeja area and headed for Yaba. Unknown to them, it was in the same bus that they robbed a sedated passenger the previous week.

Also, they were unaware that the driver of the vehicle had reported the incident to the Sabo Police Division and he had been advised to watch out for a future occurrence.
Little did this driver know that fate would bring the same group of robbers into his bus again.

CRIME DIGEST gathered that the leader of the gang, a 30-year-old suspect known simply as Chioma, is currently on the run. Usually, his method is well rehearsed. He would sit close to his victim and beckon on another member of the gang who pretends to hawk sachet water by the roadside.

Chioma would then purchase a sachet of water with N20 and ask for a balance of N10. When the hawker hesitates, Chioma would buy another sachet and offer it to his victim on the pretext of not wanting to forfeit the balance. Naturally unaware that it had been tampered with, the victim would accept the offer and drink the water. Everything happens within a few minutes.

As expected, after about 10 minutes or so, the victim becomes drowsy and eventually falls asleep. Everything of value in the possession of the victim is then stolen by Chioma who later alights from the bus before its final destination. In an interview with CRIME DIGEST, the suspects said the effects of the sedatives usually wore off after three hours.

Describing how he got involved with the gang, Chibuike said, The leader of our group is Chioma. I met him in Alaba market in 2011. At the time, I was trading in phone accessories. After we became friends, he told me how he was able to rob people by sedating them. Eventually he convinced me to abandon my trade and join his gang.

Chioma always picked his victims. I dont know how he chooses them. All I did with the rest members of the gang was to gang around the bus park with him and board the same bus with him. This will enable the bus to fill up faster and our presence close to Chioma also provides cover for his activities.

I have no idea how the sachet water is laced with sedatives. A full bag, except one sachet of water is usually laced with sedatives and packaged before it is brought to the park.
Unfortunately, he was unable to identify what substance was mixed with the pure water.

Okeke was identified as the hawker in the gang. Only last year, he had returned to Lagos from his hometown in Anambra State. He said, After I returned to Lagos, I worked with some drivers who smuggled rice and other items from the Seme border into Lagos as a bus conductor. On our way back to Seme, we would pick up passengers. About a month ago, Chioma and his gang boarded the vehicle conveying me.

While we were on our way to Seme, I noticed Chioma carefully searching his victims pockets and stealing their money. I was surprised and wanted to raise the alarm, but he silently pleaded with me not to talk. He took my phone number and promised to settle me.

When we met a few days later, he gave me N500 and persuaded me to join his gang. He said it was a lucrative venture. I believed him and abandoned my job. Yet, all I got in the month I worked with him was N8,000 and two Visa brand cell phones. I was making far less than what I earned while on the Seme route. I believe Chioma was cheating me.

Before every outing, Chioma would meet me somewhere and give me a bag of sedated pure water to carry. I would then accompany the group to the motor park of their choice and hang around any bus they board until Chioma calls on me, Okeke said.

However, Chidi denied his involvement with the group. I admit that I was once involved in this trade. But since I returned from Kirikiri prison a few months ago, I have gone back to selling phone accessories. I dont play this trick anymore. It was on Tuesday evening that I learned from Okechukwu through a phone call that my brother had been arrested by the police, but I didnt bother because I had earlier warned Tochukwu of the consequences of his actions.

I was surprised when in the early hours of Wednesday morning; some SARS operatives came into my compound with Tochukwu and Chibuike. They had come to arrest me.

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr. Umaru Manko, confirmed the arrests, adding that the gang was apprehended by members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Ikeja. He said, They were about seven in number at the time and had boarded a bus which unknown to them, they had boarded the week before.

The driver was already on the lookout for them, but it was the conductor who noticed that the same group of persons had boarded the bus before. When he raised the alarm, other members of the NURTW present at the scene tried to round them up. The prime suspect, Chioma, fled with three others. Efforts are being made to track them down.

Although Chidi and Okechukwu were not present at the scene, they have been identified as members of another group involved in the same crime. When Chibuike came to stay with his elder brother, Okechukwu admitted taking Chibuike along for a bus ride to CMS with another colleague, Goddy.

Goddy had tutored Okechuwku in the trade at Cotonou where he formerly resided. Chibuike watched as his brother and Goddy practiced their art on their unsuspecting victim and coming away with a laptop and phone.

Both Chidi and Okechukwu have been previously arrested, tried and remanded in prison for this same offence. While Chidi had served time at Kirikiri prison, Okechukwu served time at Ibarra prison. All suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of our investigation.

I am a true Muslim, I am entitled to more than one wife – Man Seeks Divorce

marriage1-300x151

A certain Mr Wahab Adekola, has pleaded with a Lagos Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, sitting in Agege to dissolve his 21-year-old marriage over fetish acts on the part of his estranged wife, Mrs Abibatu Adekola.

Fifty two-year-old Adekola, who lives at Aparadija new site, Ota, Ogun State narrated how his second wife died with her child. He blamed Abibatu for the death after claiming to have married the second wife after frustrations he suffered in the hands of the respondent. He lamented the second wife’s death, with her baby.

According to him, “I found love outside my home when I met my new wife. But the woman died with our five months old baby, and I am so sure my senior wife was responsible for it, because she always threatened to kill any woman that associated with me… My wife nags a lot, she is troublesome and always in the mood to fight anybody with me. I did not enjoy myself throughout our staying together. This led me to have girl friends because she did not give me peace of mind at home. I am a true Muslim, I am entitled to more than one wife… Any time she hears that I am going out with any lady, she would locate the lady and threaten to kill her.” Adekola then urged the court to dissolve the marriage and grant him custody of their four children.

Meanwhile, Abibatu, a civil servant, denied the allegations and said that she did not know anything about the death of her rival and her child. The mother of four told the court that she loved Wahab, saying she shared any money she made with him. She explained that she contributed to the building of the house built by the husband but said he chased her out.

According to her, “We never had any fight, yet I packed out of his house, it was after I left that my senses came up to the reality… I know I was charmed by him or one of his girlfriends that wanted him at all costs… My husband was a good and loving man when he had nothing, but when he became comfortable, he didn’t not want me again… If I had known, I would not have contributed to the building of the house he is staying now with his wife new.

“My husband goes around with anything in skirt, and will sometimes tell me, ‘that is another woman that will be the mother of my children”. She however urged the court to dissolve the marriage and grant her custody of the children. “I am ready to leave him, but I want the court to beg him so that he would not kill me”. The court president, Mr Emmanuel Shokunle, adjourned the case till Jan. 21, 2013.

It’s party time, Fashola invites Nigeria to Lagos

Raji-Fashola

Governor Raji Babatunde Fashola of Lagos is inviting Nigerians to the closing ceremony of the 18th National Sports Festival this evening at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere. Lagos is promising a magnificent show and the governor wants many to feel the stadium atmosphere tonight.

Lagos has done well in the hosting of the games. They provided a level-playing field and aside few challenges that mark games of this magnitude in Nigeria true winners emerged in most of the events. Cheating was not as pronounced as it was in some past festivals.

On the opening day on November 27, Governor Fashola announced that the ultimate dream was to develop sports and not a medal chase at all cost. His lieutenants lived up to this. Lagos did not intimidate opponents. They did not cheat. They promoted the spirit of fair play and they deserved their third place position on the medals table.

It is their best outing in the past five games. And they want to cap their efforts with a classic closing ceremony that will be full of entertainment. Eko for show is a common phrase in Nigeria. Lagos is determined to justify that. During the games, fans had fun at different centres.

Musicians and comedians entertained in different relaxation centres. There were many shows even at the venues. The events were well attended and fan clubs made the atmosphere at venues exciting. The excitement continues this night at the closing ceremony where athletes will bid bye to their friends.

Eko 2012 will remain green in the memories of many participants. It may be the last for many of them, their ages notwithstanding. It is the last festival that will be restricted to those who have competed in international events and those who have attended two festivals.

The 2014 games in Cross River will be open to all. It will be Nigeria’s quasi Olympic Games. States will field their best athletes at home and abroad. This will make the National Sports Festival very competitive and some those who competed here may no longer meet the standard to compete for their states.

The stakes will be higher. And for the purposes of discovering talents, there will be a national junior competition. Many have commended this direction and hoped that the competitions would be well organized to achieve the objectives of the country. And so Lagos is making history as the last host of the closed games.

It is equally so for Delta State which leaves Lagos as title holders of the last closed games. Emerging tops here makes them the best state in sports in the recent times. They have won five out of the last seven games, losing to Edo and Rivers when those states hosted the games. Delta won in Bauch 2000, Edo won in Edo in 2002, Delta returned to their winning streak in Abuja in 2004 and Abeokuta in 2006.

They also won in the Kaduna games that had to be postponed two times before losing to Rivers in Rivers. Now, they are back as winners in Lagos, the City of Excellence and a state that won the games consecutively at Markurdi ’96 and Imo ’98. The plunge in Lagos set in after then. But Fashola has launched a programme to revive sports and the march is on.

“The good thing about our victory is that it cuts across many sports. We won gold medals in almost all sports. It makes our victory complete and proves how serious we are about sports development ,”Amaju Melvin Pinnick, head of sports in Delta said. His governor Emmanuel Uduaghan had said that they had the capacity to “win the festival any time we want so far there’s fair play.”

He has also said that the focus now should be transforming sports in Nigeria so that Nigeria can begin to do well at the Olympic Games and also make sports the industry that it is in some countries. It is the same song that Fashola and Liyel Imoke of Cross River State are singing.

As the curtains will be drawn on Eko 2012 today, two athletes will be in the minds of many who saw them compete. They are the stars of the games. They should be the faces of Eko 2012. Kingsley Forcados and Otobodo Owanren as at Friday had won 12 gold medals. Each of them had won four individual and two team gold medals.

They are Delta athletes. Kingsley is the younger brother of Blessing Forcados who won seven gold medals in the Abuja games and when asked what she wanted government to do for her she asked for nothing but wanted the state to build a swimming pool in her senatorial district.

Kingsley and Otobodo will get special attention as the games come to an end today. The winners of Eko 2012 are, however, not only the medalists. The hosts, the organizers and all the entertainers who performed at the opening ceremony and those who will make tonight a wonderful one will, in a way, remain the stars of Eko 2012.

I will send rich tax defaulters to jail – Oshiomhole

GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole, Saturday, signed into law, Edo Property Tax Bill, with a warning to the rich that they would be sent to jail if they failed to comply with the new law.

Oshiomhole, who used the opportunity to react to the insinuation in some quarters that the law will further impoverish the poor, said it was misleading, explaining that the law is targeted at the rich with a view to providing basic amenities for the poor.

His words: “The rich will prefer that taxation be abolished because they have enough money even to build private homes, private roads, and buy private jets and so on. But I am not apologetic that this government is determined to tax the rich and the very rich so that we can provide for the poorest of the poor. Every enlightened rich man will appreciate that it is in his own interest that government provides for the poor.

“So when people say that this law is targeted at some persons, I say yes. The law is targeted at those who are taxable, those who have property and that includes myself. I need to pay tax so that when I am not in government, government will have the resources to provide those things that they need to provide for Edo to make progress. I am very appreciative for the support which I have continued to enjoy from the people of Edo and I promise I will never abuse that trust.

“The outcome of the last election has humbled me and I am committed to give my all. No body is above the law. I have the duty to remind those who feel they are above the law, they are not. If the governor is not above the law no one is. Government must protect the weak, we must be just. This government will not victimize any body even under provocation, but no one will be too big to be dealt with if he violates the law.”

No end in sight to fuel scarcity – NUPENG

Vehicles queuing for fuel at the central area of Abuja recently

Vehicles queuing for fuel at the central area of Abuja recently

If the Federal Government does not take proactive steps to improve importation of petroleum products and boost the supply chain for products to be sufficient ahead of the yuletide, the lingering scarcity of petrol across the country may worsen.

Sunday Business gathered that the scarcity of petrol, which hit Lagos and some neighbouring States few months ago has taken a new dimension, as cost of transportation and food items are skyrocketing following the persistent scarcity.

Notwithstanding the assurance given by the Minister of Petroleum, Mrs Diezani Alliso-Madueke, about the effort of Government to increase the supply of petroleum products to prevent scarcity during the festive period, a litre of fuel in some service outlets was, last week, sold for about N150, as against the official pump price of N97.

Transport fares on many routes have shot up by over 20 per cent in Lagos , while the prices of consumable items in the market are increasing by the day. Many economic experts attributed the increase in the prices of goods and services to the multiplier effect of fuel shortage across the country.

When Sunday Business visited Ketu and Mile 12 markets in Lagos, it was observed that a bag of rice was sold for between N10, 000 and N10,500 instead of the initial price of N8,000; a tin of vegetable oil for N1,900 instead of N1,500, a unit of six tubers of yam for N1,800 and above depending on the sizes, instead of N1,200; a medium sized basket of tomato for N11,000 and above instead of N7,000.

It was also observed that some filling stations were not selling petrol because they had no supply of product. Some of the stations visited include MRS, Oando, NIPCO, Conoil, Total, Mobil and AP.

When contacted, the Western Zonal Chairman, National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, said, “There is no solution to the lingering petrol scarcity unless the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) urgently repairs Arepo distribution pipelines vandalised recently by hoodlums, in order to boost fuel supply to Western axis of System 2B. The reality is that the people within the region where fuel is supplied through the Western axis of system 2B of NNPC will continue to experience scarcity until the Arepo pipelines are repaired.”

He went on, “At present, NNPC is supplying fuel with trucks, but, without these pipelines, there is no way the trucking of product can be effectively done to meet the increasing demand in the country. The damaged pipelines are the sources of product to Mosimi, the headquarters of system 2B in Shagamu while from Mosimi, the product is pumped to Ibadan , from there to Ilorin , and from Mosimi again to Ore and Lagos .

“Therefore, the continuous denial of the distribution network makes all the areas getting supply of petrol from the axis of system 2B to have shortage of fuel. Again, what NNPC is doing now is not helping the situation. What we are saying is that the scarcity will persist until the pipelines are fixed to ensure effective distribution of product.”

Princess, embarrassed in Church for being single

Princess

Princess

If this buzz is anything to believe, then, the plus-sized Nigerian comedienne, Adekoya Damilola popularly known as Princess must be seriously searching for her missing rib as she got what she never imagined in her life time recently when she took a bold step to reconcile with her maker in Lagos.

According to what Princess tweeted, she was embarrassed by one of the church’s ushers who reportedly refused to allow her sit in the front seat while the pastor was preaching because she (Princess) was single.

“I can’t believe this church and their sitting arrangement. Is this not supposed to be the house of God? One of the ushers told me I couldn’t sit in front because I am single. I nearly died of embarrassment, in the presence of God.” the busty comedienne tweeted.

Though the pastor later apologised to Princess, she said the apology came late, adding “it is not a sin to be single.” The comedian was surprised when she found out that the pastor himself is also single. She then demanded for a bigger apology from the church.”@pastorpoju OMG! So u r single too? that usher owes a BIG time apology. He spoilt my day, made me regret coming to your church and hurt my feelings.” she tweeted.

No talks with OBJ to fight Jonathan – Atiku

By Jide Ajani

As the feud between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his one-time protégé, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, deepens, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that he is not involved in their voyage of acrimony.

Atiku, who is the Turakin’Adamawa, disclosed that contrary to reports that he is teaming up with Obasanjo to fight Jonathan, nothing of such existed.

Whereas an interview request with the former number two citizen is pending, Sunday Vanguard was informed by the Atiku camp that the former VeePee is not in any type of talks, formal or otherwise, with Obasanjo for the purpose of moving against the incumbent president.

Long time spokesman for the former Vice President, Mallam Garba Shehu, disclosed that “there are no formal talks going on between former President Obasanjo and the Turaki (Atiku Abubakar).”

Jonathan, Atiku and Obasanjo

Jonathan, Atiku and Obasanjo

Shehu told Sunday Vanguard: “We are aware that alignments and realignments are going-on on almost every front. This is to be expected. It is in the nature of politics. For some time now the Turaki has fully immersed himself in reconciliation with party members across the length and breadth of the country”.

Responding to the specific issue of the 2015 presidential election and plots to root out Jonathan, he said: “On the recurrent issue of the alleged face-off between former President Obasanjo and President Goodluck Jonathan, the Turaki strongly insists that he knows nothing about it. He, too, he says, has read about it in the newspapers and left it at that.

“To the best of my knowledge, I am not aware of any political meeting between President Obasanjo and his former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Speculations to the effect that he has teamed up with his former boss to fight President Jonathan are therefore totally unfounded”.

When he was reminded that the peace initiative Atiku engaged with Obasanjo may have suggested that both men have patched up their differences and may be once again working together for the 2015 project, especially given the very frosty relationship between Obasanjo and President Jonathan now, Mallam Shehu explained thus:

“Turaki’s peace overture to his former boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo, although much misunderstood, should be taken in this context. Today, the Turaki feels much as ease with himself having taken the olive branch to about everyone with whom he had one form of falling out or the other.

“The former Vice President believes that vengeance is a negative emotion that ruins the quality of one’s happiness. Many people are amazed why he has no difficulty talking to perceived enemies. His conviction, however, is that forgiveness costs him nothing.

“In fact, many former public office holders that had once insulted him came back seeking his forgiveness and he did so without looking back. There was nothing unusual, therefore, if he had extended reverential hands of fellowship to politicians perceived as his adversaries”.

Charly Boy:The extra mile

charly-boy-the-extra-mileLife is unpredictable, life has a twisted sense of humour, and life is a driver with a bad attitude; life is a long lonely river. When it dries up, the show is over. When it stagnates, like our capital territory’s man made pond beside the bridge to Gwarimpa, it loses its appeal, and when it rushes, as it will, into the bigger ocean, it merges into the force of similitude, the imprisoning source of all equivalence, forever.

This is your boy, Charly, at the watchtower, hailing all you small and mighty ogas. This week, for me, is cast in a retrospective mould, because I’m like you; I want to know what makes one’s life different from another, what makes America different from Nigeria, and what makes selected dictators different from the democratic elect. I want to laugh in the face of history, our antagonistic nemesis, by remaining a living proof, of how we can break away from the strong hold of ignominy.

The bottom line is that life is like a boxer in the ring; it keeps coming at you with sucker punches. You get to duck, swerve, take it as it comes until you drop from your place of glory or fight back. Most of us fight back, because the human genealogy is made like that; we are programmed to overcome; we are engineered to stretch our endurance to that breaking point and beyond, which is why we can hope, for 50 years in the darkness, still expecting daylight. Going the extra mile means a lot of things to some people, but to me, it’s what distinguishes the sands from the mountains.

My friends; I am a conqueror; I don’t know how to give up. This doesn’t mean that I stand feet apart atop Kilimanjaro and beat my chest twenty-four-seven. No! Actually it’s more than hard work; it’s more than good luck; heck, it’s a hustlers unending war. Of course, it should be much more, because bulldozers, like me, don’t wear our badges as we do cool clothes. Our badges are like scars, like historical landmarks, there’s no washing or taking them off.

Going the extra mile, to a lot of people, means a sacrifice they just can’t make. It’s risky, for a political hound dog to go against the policies of the other goons in the caucus, especially when it will spell his expulsion from the land of milk and honey, but if and when he weighs the balance, and takes into consideration the effect his disloyal position has on the general populace, if and when he factors into his get richer equation the greater benefit of the nation, which puts so much trust in his sorry hide, and if and when he decides that he would rather see the advent of real progress in the back seat of a beetle, than shamefully face a people’s steady decline at the wheel of a custom made jaguar, then he is going the extra mile with his hope for a better future.

Yes, my friends, sometimes it means having no friends, because you might be required to go against the trend, and that has always been one of the defining attributes of a new era. It’s obviously something that we haven’t seen before, this new era. We are wowed by the possibilities, thrust into the next level with amazing ease, yes o; light can shine on without blinking, without ceasing, without going on a three week vacation, without higher taxes or higher charges, without the biting fangs of capitalism’s market strategies. I believe; the question is; do you? Do you think you can make it?

Have you, O tired and downtrodden, weary soul, given up already, concluding that the alien government hierarchy will never crumble, will never give way? Have you marched through the hot desert in search of the river, but found only silent sand dunes? Are you about to let the desert take you, and make you part of its past, part of its genealogy? Maybe what you need to do is go the extra mile. You need to stand against the sucker punches till the fists that rise arise no more.

You need to truck it farther than you ever did before. But why, why do we always have to exceed the preset boundaries? Why do we fight to achieve peace? Why do we endure to rest? Why give the rushing river a run for its pressure, against the constant high tide and the raging waves of a deep, turbulent sea, against the looming waterfall and the jagged rocks below the cliffs, why do we always have to surprise nature and the elements with our best of the best? Yes, you are welcome to share with me your unique experience, but I think you know that I know that you know that I know we were made to astound creation. Is there any other explanation, for why the scientist maintains we are prone to using only ten percent of our brain capabilities?

What’s the other ninety percent doing, sleeping? Wake it up! Shake it up! Dish it up the way Mohammed Ali did every time he entered the ring. Those sucker punches? They only sting when you blink. And so I said to myself, Charly, I said, these candidates promising to take us over the bridge, over the bigger ocean, over the bigger wahala, into the future, how long can they truck it? Have they understood the aim of the game, or are they playing another demo re-run? Do they have what it takes?

Are they ready to go that extra mile, and are they ready? Some people need fame and money to procreate; others need status and power to concentrate. All it takes is for you and me to be ready, and we don’t have to be the next president or vice president to stand out. Care more, share more, be honest and think of every great and good thing you can think of. Well, just do it more. If you have been sitting on tax payers’ money it’s time to stand up and let it go where it was supposed to go.

If you are a senator cooling your butt for five minutes twice a year, talking rubbish to collect what your whole village needs to step into the millennium, then go the extra mile, get a bill signed that will prevent you and your kind from crippling the nation. You’ve got to sacrifice for the dream, and join the People’s Army. Check it out yourself; no race ever made it this far without breaking away from the clutches of sycophants and narrow-minded issues. Germany lost Hitler.

America released the slaves and let the plantations rot. Great Britain finally stopped trying to colonise everybody and beat a wise retreat into their own backyard. Ghana called a spade a spade, and because they did they are doing so well today. Name names, browse through the civilisations, you’ll see this rugged road stretch out ahead of mankind like a mathematical formula surviving on the strength of its validity. You’ll hear foreigners sigh; they’ll shake their heads and say, “Nigeria has a long way to go…” We can’t catch corruption two steps down this road.

We can’t see the Promised Land fixed like monuments on this hard cobalt, gazing into the horizon, wondering where this audacious road leads. We can’t keep pretending to be moving, standing still.
