Committee chairman Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin (PDP, Kano) had moved a motion on matters of urgent public importance informing the House of failure of affected agencies to honour their several invitations and provide details of their Internally Generated Revenues (IGR) as part of the 2013 budget revenue frame work.

Tambuwal then directed Jibrin to write to him and list the erring agencies.

A copy of the arrest warrant signed by the Speaker indicated that CBN governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, NNPC Group Managing Director Engr. Andrew Yakubu are among those listed.

To face arrest also include heads of AMCON, FCT, FAAN, Pension Commission of Nigeria, NIMASA, NPA, among others.

Meanwhile, the police head-quarters in Abuja said no warrant was transmitted to it from the National Assembly for the arrest of anybody, police spokesman said.

Convenant university student suspended for watching music video

Reports say that a Covenant University, Ogun State student was recently suspended after he was caught watching the music video teaser for Jarmeu’s ‘Booty Bash’.

CU-student-suspended-for-watching-music-video

The student (identity withheld), was caught watching the nearly x-rated music video of Jarmeu, who is one of Nigeria’s fast rising artistes. The school, which is owned by Nigeria’s billionaire’s pastor, David Oyedepo’s Winners Chapel Church, as gathered, does not allow the use of mobile phones by its students.

So, when the student’s phone was seized, it was discovered that he was watching a music video that had the flaunting of ‘booties’, which belonged to Jarmeu. The student was then punished for ‘indecent conduct’ and got suspended from the school by the school authorities.

Pope Benedict XVI sends his first personal tweet.Gets 2000 retweets in 2 mins

The wait is over for Pope Benedict XVI’s many Twitter followers, and they have been quick to respond to the much anticipated first tweet from his personal account Wednesday morning.

pope-send-first-personal-tweets

Using the handle @Pontifex — meaning “bridge builder” in Latin — he posted: “Dear friends, I am pleased to get in touch with you through Twitter. Thank you for your generous response. I bless all of you from my heart.”

A flood of tweets expressing joy, admiration, antagonism and skepticism followed from the Twitterverse, not to mention a fair few jokes.

“Wow! Is this true?! Pope Benedict XVI has started tweeting! Welcome Your Holliness! I’m grateful for your blessing! Follow him!” tweeted @Joyful_Minoz.

“Our Pope Benedict XVI has a twitter account! Coolest Pope in history!” wrote @alexaSaclao.

“@pontifex welcome on twitter. Glad you are now reachable to openly discuss gay marriage, birth control and gender equality!” said ‏@wimremes.

Some are more skeptical about the pontiff’s personal involvement.

“For the first time in history, a man can communicate directly with some low-level press officer in Vatican,” tweeted @EsaMakinen.

A Vatican official told CNN last week that the pope would compose the tweets for the new account himself. But while the pontiff pressed the button to send his very first tweet, others are expected to send future tweets on his behalf.

The pope followed up his first message with two more tweets within minutes.

“How can we celebrate the Year of Faith better in our daily lives?” asked one.

The answer: “By speaking with Jesus in prayer, listening to what he tells you in the Gospel and looking for him in those in need.”

This prompted comment that the pontiff had missed the point about social media being interactive.

“@Pontifex is answering his own tweets now. That’s not really how it works, Your Holiness,” said ‏@exitthelemming.

The pope’s venture into social media has also sparked a flurry of jokes.

Comedy writer Colm Tobin tweeted: “RT @Pontifex Thou shalt not covet your neighbour’s Twitter followers.”

“I hear he’s changing it to ‘thou shall not covet thy neighbour’s wifi,’ ” was another tweeter’s humorous take.

An hour after his first tweet, the pope had around 700,000 followers on his English-language account. He is also tweeting in seven other languages, including Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic.

This prompted admiration from some fellow tweeters.

“Brilliant that @Pontifex tweets in 8 languages simultaneously incl. Arabic … : Truly pioneering,” said @gsurya.

“Not even I could manage 8 Twitter accounts. I suppose @Pontifex has God on his side,” remarked @BizPaul.

However, not everyone was impressed. “So disappointed that @Pontifex did not write his first tweet in Latin,” said @laiabalcells.

The secretary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, Monsignor Paul Tighe, told Vatican Radio that the sending of the first tweet was “an extraordinary moment.”

The attention it sparked within the “Twitterverse” was quite impressive, he said, with more than 2,000 retweets in under two minutes.

Vatican officials said last week that anyone could send in a question to the pope’s personal account via the hashtag #askpontifex or #B16.

Pope Benedict has some previous experience at tweeting, having launched the official Vatican news site on Twitter, @news_va_en, in June of last year.

Other religious leaders have found great success with Twitter. The 140-character limit for tweets allows for short messages, perfect for small verses of scripture or inspiration.

The Dalai Lama (@DalaiLama), Rick Warren (@RickWarren), Joel Osteen (@JoelOsteen) and scores of other religious leaders spread their messages via the site.

A commentary written by Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi for Vatican Radio last week said: “140 characters — the number contained in a tweet — are quite a few. Most of the verses of the Gospel have less; the beatitudes are much shorter. A little concision isn’t bad.”

He added that while short messages on Twitter could not carry the whole teachings of the Catholic Church, they would help spread the word to those who wanted to hear.

“Of course the world will not be saved by tweets but among a billion baptised Catholics and among the seven billion people of the world; several million people will be able to feel the Pope is closer in this way too, hearing him say a word for them, a spark of wisdom to bear in their minds and hearts and to share with their twitter friends,” he wrote. “A new service of the Gospel.”

While Benedict is the first Catholic pope to take to Twitter, he isn’t the first twitterized pope. That honor goes to His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, the 118th pope of the Coptic Church of Egypt. But Pope Tawadros has around 6,300 Twitter followers; Benedict had tens of thousands on his first day out.

John Paul II, who preceded Benedict, was the first pontiff to use the Internet, and the 20th century saw a string of other milestones for popes using technology to reach the masses. Pope Pius XI made the first papal radio broadcast in 1931. His successor, Pope Pius XII, made the first papal television appearance in 1946.

tonto-dikeh-jide_salu_diary

1. Goldie _This diva was among the finalists for the BBA 2012. During the competition, she was having an affair with Kenyan Star Preezo. This did not go down well with some Nigerian audience of the show (maybe they believed that she was downgrading Nigeria via the act). After her eviction from the show, she received alot of insults on the internet.

2. GEJ _ He has been insulted more than any other president in the world in 2012. Wetin he do? Removal of fuel subsidy, not been able to get to the root of many probes, the list is endless.

3. Munachi _She celebrated her birthday recently & wore a dress which revealed some part of her bosom. This thing vex plenty of her fans cos she received some yabis ontop d mata. Some even say na market she dey advertise.

4. Diezani Alison Madueke _This woman is not a favorite among Nigerians. Since the time of the fuel subsidy removal, she’s referred to as the Frog Eyed Woman. Wetin she do? You can state that.

5. Tonto Dike _Her new songs High & It’s Over now have millions of views & downloads on internet. But it’s like these songs earned her alot of hatred from music fans nationwide. She was renamed Toto Decay and a notable comedian even made jest of her recently.
Wetin she do? I can’t really answer that but I know that she get many haters. Them say she no humble & she’s sultry. From the time she tweeted that she will give N1million to anyone who know the meaning of her car’s customised plate number ‘Pokolo’ (How the hell did she want people to know if she didn’t say it). Need I say more about her cos you may get ‘high until it’s over’.

Feel free to add to the list!

12 Dangerous Reasons To Get Married

In terms of motivations for marriage, thus far I’ve been focusing mostly on delusional thinking processes caused by fantasies we create during the cocaine-rush phase of relationships. For example, within the context of a short courtship, two delusional reasons for getting married are “because it feels like I’ve known you forever, even though we just met” and “because our love story would make a great movie.”

black-marriage2

There are a number of other equally bad reasons to take the plunge. These generally fall into three categories—anxiety, inadequacy, and self-centered pragmatics.

If you are contemplating marriage or are “on the hunt” for a spouse, I’d advise you to get honest with yourself and plumb the depths of your motivations. Do your motivations stem from any of the following thoughts?

I want to get married…

• because all of my friends are doing it.

• because I don’t know if I’ll get another chance if I take a pass on this one.

• because I want to feel secure.

• because I don’t want to deal with the dating world anymore.

These motivations are fear based. Anxiety is driving the bus when we fear that we will be left behind, when we accept the premise that a full and interesting life without a spouse is less successful than a partnered life, or when we believe that marriage will give us a sense of security that we cannot experience without a partner.

In a way, the person who marries for these reasons is looking to his or her partner to function as a different type of drug—not cocaine, but some type of sedative in this case. The supposed stability and security of the marital bond is sought as an antidote to the tumultuousness of “life on the outside.” When one looks to one’s partner to be any type of drug instead of a living, breathing human being with an agenda of his or her own, the result is often a short-lived bond.

A second category of unwise motivation is marrying because of feelings of inadequacy, typified by any of the following thoughts:

I want to get married…

• because the person I’m dating loves me and that makes me feel special and lovable.

• because marriage will show everyone that I’m an adult.

• because marriage will demonstrate that someone wants me.

• because this will bring my life into better focus.

• because I’m lonely.

If your motivations fall within this category, please consider some of the future blog posts I’ll submit about self-esteem and marital success (upcoming in the next couple months). I’ll need some space to address this issue in a meaningful way.

Finally, a third category of misguided motivation is shallow pragmatics, which boils down to thoughts such as these:

I want to get married…

• because we’ve dated awhile and this is the next logical step to take.

• because I want to register for nice things and create a Pottery Barn nest for myself.

• because I will not get stationed with this hottie I’m dating unless I marry him/her (for those in the military).

As someone who hears the stories that people don’t tell in polite society, I continue to be surprised at the frequency of motivations like these. Ultimately, motivations in any of these categories are likely to result in what author Pamela Paul has referred to as a “starter marriage.”

Bride Spends Wedding Night In Prison After Stabbing Guest In The Face

A bride was arrested on suspicion of glassing a guest in the face on her wedding day after being involved in a 12-man brawl.

22075

The 32-year-old from Kent, who has been named locally as Amy Ward, spent her first night of married life in jail and was still wearing her wedding dress when she was arrested by police in the early hours of yesterday morning.

She was released without charge as the 29-year-old victim who suffered cuts to his face did not want to press charges.

It is believed the bride was trying to defend her husband from being attacked by a guest.

The groom, a 54-year-old man believed to be Allen Herve, was treated at the scene for a cut to his elbow by paramedics after he tried to intervene in the fight.

The bust up took place at the Bromley Court Hotel in Bromley, Kent at 1am yesterday following her wedding on Saturday afternoon.

Police and paramedics were scrambled to the hotel after guests dialled 999 and found two men, one aged 29 and one aged 30, suffering from facial injuries.

The 29-year-old was rushed to Darent Valley Hospital in Datford, Kent, suffering from cuts to the face and the 30-year-old was taken to Princess Royal University Hospital in Orpington with a broken nose.

Miss Ward was arrested in front of scores of wedding guests on suspicion of assaulting the 29-year-old man who suffered cuts to his face – believed to have been caused by a broken bottle or a glass.

The bride, from Orpington, was not responsible for the injuries sustained by the second man.

It is not known whether Miss Ward has taken her husband’s surname. The groom, a senior council manager, has been named locally as Allen Herve.

Mr Herve, who married Miss Ward – 22 years his junior – is believed to be the CCTV Enforcement and Contract Manager at the London Borough of Bromley.

Miss Ward was kept in custody overnight at Bromley Police Station, but released on Sunday afternoon after the victim declined to press charges or assist police with the investigation.

She was given a caution for affray.

A friend, who does not want to be named, said tonight the bride was trying to defend her husband.

She said: ‘There is absolutely no way that Amy and Allen caused the trouble – far from it. There was a guest at the wedding who behaved like a complete animal and he caused the trouble.

‘I’ve never known either Amy or Allen to get involved in anything like this before, it’s not in their character.

‘This guest got more and more drunk throughout the reception, increasingly misbehaved and acted totally out of order. He was rude and aggressive and he was upsetting lots of people at the reception.

‘The trouble started when he attacked Allen who had been trying to reason with him, telling him to behave.

‘Amy saw Allen being attacked and was desperately trying to stop it. I didn’t see her hit the man but he definitely deserved something for the way he behaved.

‘Neither of them was in any way to blame for this.

‘I’m sure you can imagine how they must be feeling, no one would want something like this to happen at their wedding.’

Police said that a ’12-man brawl’ kicked off just before 1am and that officers were called by guests who reported a ‘disturbance’.

A police spokesman said today: ‘Police were called to a disturbance at a wedding party at the Bromley Court Hotel at 1am on Sunday.

‘When officers arrived there was a brawl between 12 guests and the bride, who was easily identifiable because she was still wearing her wedding dress.

‘She was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a 29-year-old man who had received cuts to his face.

‘A 30-year-old man was also treated for a broken nose, but his assailant is unknown and the groom received cuts to his elbow.’

He added: ‘The bride was kept in custody overnight, but because the 29-year-old victim did not want to press charges or help police with its investigation she was given a police caution for affray and released without charge.’

A source said: ‘It will be a night to remember for all the wrong reasons.’

Mr Herve’s two grown-up daughters – Kelly, 31, and Hayley, 29 – from a previous marriage were both at the wedding party.

Mr Herve is believed to have worked at the council for more than 12 years, after taking the job in June 2000.

A spokesman for the council said today: ‘Mr Herve is on annual leave at the moment as he got married on Saturday.

‘He is due back at work on January 2.’

When asked about the wedding day brawl, she said: ‘I’m afraid I wasn’t invited and don’t know anything about the incident.’

Photos: Woman Arrested For Hiring Thugs To Beat Her Secret Lover, Resulting In His Death

A 22-year old woman, Mrs. Tawa Rawan, has landed in big trouble was after she sent thugs to beat up her secret lover, Akeem Ganiyu, 25, at their Bariga area, Lagos State over a disagreement, PMNews reports.

d

The thugs operated outside their brief, instead of beating up Ganiyu, as directed by Rawan, they ended up killing him after inflicting several machete cuts on his body.

Rawan has been arrested by the police for her alleged involvement in the murder. The police also arrested her accomplices, identified as Joshua Damilola, 27, Akintude Sodiq, 25 and 17-year old Ismaila Riliwan. The fourth accomplice, Abiodun Adeleke, is on the run.

dd

The incident happened at the victim’s house at 91, Arobadele Street, Bariga Lagos.

Narrating the incident, Rawan, mother of two kids, said she had a quarrel with the deceased and he slapped her, took away the money she made from bread sales.

According to her, she contacted those men to help her recover her money and to avenge the assault on her and not to kill Ganiyu. She said she was still shocked that he was killed in the process.

On her relationship with the late Ganiyu, she said he was her lover and that she is from Oyo State and married to another man with kids.
PMNews gathered that while she was still with her husband, she was also dating other men, including Ganiyu secretly.

One of the suspects, Damilola said they did not intend to kill him, but used the machete after he attacked them with a bottle. “We went to ask him about his problem with Rawan. Instead of answering us, he snatched a broken bottle and stabbed me”, he stated.

He said he went to the bread factory and brought a machete and inflicted injury that resulted in Ganiyu’s death. “I am at a loss on what to do and I don’t know how I am going to get out of this”, he cried at the station.

Another suspect, Sodiq, confessed that Rawan was also his lover but he did not take part in the fighting.

A witness told PMNews that the late Ganiyu sustained several injuries on his body following the machete attack on him, adding that he died because he lost too much blood. The body has been deposited at the Gbagada General Hospital for autopsy.

Police sources also told PMNews that the suspects would soon be charged to court for conspiracy and murder.

Ganiyu’s sister, Nafisat Ismail, who sells bread at his 91, Arobadade residence, demanded for the release of her brother’s corpse so that he could be given a decent burial like a true Muslim.

She said their aged parents who are farmers in Iseyin, Oyo State were in support of her decision because as a Muslim, Ganiyu’s burial should not be unnecessarily delayed.

Picture: Mentally Unstable Woman Selling “Pure Water” Causes Stir In Abuja

The need for the society to come to the aid of mentally unstable persons was the subject of debate yesterday in the Area 10, Garki in Abuja.

seller-1-300x225

A lady who is likely to be in her twenties, was seen talking to no one in particular as she intermittently screamed at the top of her voice, while carrying some pure water on her head, apparently for sale.

As this reporter walked towards her, she quickly brought out a mobile phone from a black polythene bag. She then tried to make a call, as she pointed to our correspondent saying “I go call police. Go back! Go!”

The incident which occurred in front of the Cyprian Ekwensi Centre for Arts and Culture, halted business activities for about eight minutes as those around including traders, vendors, books and recharge card sellers, okrika (second-hand clothes) dealers, among others watched the “performance” of the unknown hawker in amazement.

A middle aged man selling oranges told DailyPost that it was the second time the lady was causing a spectacle this month. He wondered who her relatives were and why they allowed her to roam about the streets in such condition.

A male bystander, himself a hawker, said: “This kind thing no good. At least make government or some people try to help the girl. I dey feel bad for her,” the worried man added.
