Police Foil Plot To Murder Justin Bieber

A convicted murderer with a Justin Bieber fixation hired two men to strangle the teen pop sensation, but then informed the police of his plan before it could be carried out.

Dana Martin, 45, is serving two life sentences at the Southern New Mexico Corrections Facility at Las Cruces, for the rape and murder of 15-year-old Vermont schoolgirl DeAndra Fluorucci, 12 years ago.

While incarcerated, he became so infatuated with Bieber that he commissioned a tattoo of the singer on his leg. But when his attempts to contact the 18-year-old Canadian megastar were unsuccessful, an upset Martin decided to plot his death.

According to Albuquerque’s KRQE News, he enlisted a fellow inmate, 41-year-old Mark Staake, to carry out the murder. When Staake was released from Las Cruces last month, he also enlisted his nephew Tanner Ruane, 23, to assist in the grisly undertaking.

The two men first travelled to Vermont, where they planned to kill two men, said to be witnesses to the Fluorucci murder, by strangling them with a paisley tie: Martin’s “calling card”. Then they were to move on to New York, to murder Bieber and his bodyguard before his two-sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden on 27 and 28 November.

It was previously reported that the pair also intended to castrate Bieber, but an affidavit for an arrest warrant obtained by New Mexico police suggests this fate was meant only for the first two victims.

Martin reportedly offered a bounty of $2,500 for each of their testicles. However, Martin apparently changed his mind, and informed police of the plan as it began to unravel. Staake and Ruane took a wrong turn in Vermont, which led them to the Canadian border, where Staake asked for directions and was arrested for having violated probation.

Ruane was released and made it as far as Rotterdam, New York, where he called Martin to apologise for having failed to fulfil the contract. Police were listening in, and Ruane was apprehended soon afterwards. He was carrying a pair of Fiskars “Durasharp” pruning shears when he was arrested.

Bieber’s entourage includes security director Moshe Benabou, a former Israeli soldier, and celebrity bodyguard Dustin Folkes. “We take every precaution to protect and insure the safety of Justin and his fans,” the star’s management said in a statement.

Pastor Tunde Bakare’s Son & NYSC Commandant Trade Slaps In NYSC Ondo Camp

Story written by Stella Dimoko Korkus for Encomium Magazine

ABUBAKAR +BEVERLY NAYAb
It was with tension and on edge that those who witnessed this exchange of slaps whisper this gist. According to them, ‘coloured trousers had been banned within the camp and the camp commandant spotted Pastor Tunde Bakare’s son, Tunde Jnr in black trousers. When apprehended, the lad asked the commandant if he didn’t know he was the son of Tunde Bakare, the son of the popular preacher. The commandant immediately delivered a slap on the face of the young man and Tunde Jnr replied with his own slap.

Tunde’s mum had given the commandant a number to call when she dropped off her son in camp, so immediately this incident occurred, the commandant called Mrs Bakare and after a few words, the phone was handed to Pastor Tunde Bakare himself. After hearing what had happened, Pastor Bakare asked that his son be disciplined for disobeying camp rules. The phone was on speaker and Tunde Jnr heard his father’s instructions and as soon as the phone call ended, Tunde Jnr went down on his knees and started begging. The matter has since been resolved.

LIST: The 8 Most Interesting Africans 2012

The New Yorker recently released its top Africans of 2012 including soe of the most compelling individuals around the continent.

efdd307169def5a23c66a02667fa8073

From President of Malawi, Joyce Banda to the Occupy Nigeria group and even PSquare.

Alexis Okeowo lists some of Africa’s most fascinating people doing innovative, admirable, and sometimes destructive work:

1. Her name has been on the minds of most Africa observers this past year, and with good reason. Joyce Banda, the President of Malawi, took office in April, after an epic power struggle in which the late former President’s allies tried to block her from rightfully assuming the position, and she has since made a promising impression.

She took a substantial pay cut, put the Presidential jet and cars up for sale, vowed to arrest the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, an accused war criminal, if he entered Malawi (a promise that several other African presidents have shied away from), and has spoken out against proposed anti-gay legislation.

She also has been a prominent advocate for women and children, famously leaving her first husband because he was abusive. The hype on Banda may be outsized—critics point out that her taking a pay cut and selling the jet and cars was necessary in a floundering economy—but I am eager to see more from her.

2. It is rare enough to find vocal gay-rights advocates in West Africa, but the Cameroonian lawyer Alice Nkom takes it one step further: she has devoted her practice, the Association to Defend Homosexuals, to protecting L.G.B.T. citizens in a country where homosexual acts are illegal. As a result, she has been repeatedly threatened with disbarment and arrest. (One Cameroonian lawyer went on local television with a Bible, advising that Nkom be put to death for promoting homosexuality.)

Sixty-seven years old and grandmotherly looking, the lawyer called attention to an “anti-gay crackdown” last year in Cameroon, in which at least ten people had been arrested on charges of homosexuality, including one man who was sentenced to three years in prison for sending a text message to another man, and numerous incidents of homophobic violence. She refuses to close her practice. “Someone has to do this,” she says.

3. The director of one of this year’s most stunning films, “Nairobi Half Life SaveFrom.net,” is the Kenyan David (Tosh) Gitonga, from the small town of Nanyuki. Praised by the Hollywood Reporter and Kenya’s second-ever official entry for the foreign-language Oscar, Gitonga’s first film is a lush, suspenseful coming-of-age tale and an ode to the multilayered stimulant that is Nairobi. The film won the Breakthrough Audience Award at the AFI Fest 2012.

Notably, Gitonga, who has worked on several productions as an assistant director, is part of a generation of young African filmmakers, which includes Djo Tunda Wa Munga, the Congolese director of “Viva Riva!,” and the Rwandan Kivu Ruhorahoza, who made “Grey Matter,” that appears poised to reinvigorate moviemaking on the continent.

4. As a woman, Tanzanian lawmaker Al-Shaymaa Kwegyiris already a minority in her country’s Parliament. But as an albino, she is one of merely two parliamentarians with first-hand knowledge of the increasingly perilous existence of the country’s albino residents.

In June, she broke down crying in Parliament as she recounted the grim facts: almost eighty albinos have died in ritual killings in recent years, and many others have been raped. Little has been done to find the perpetrators of these crimes, and many albino Tanzanians live in constant fear. Albinos are often killed and dismembered there because of superstitious beliefs that charms made from their body parts—some of which sell for thousands of dollars—bring prosperity. Though a few charities in Tanzania aid albinos, Kwegyr’s efforts, if heard, would be the most effective.

5. Proscovia Oromait is a nineteen-year-old college student and one of the newest members of Uganda’s Parliament. The youngest lawmaker in the country’s history, she is filling the office of her late father and says that she simply wants to continue her father’s initiatives—when she’s not in class.

6. Writing on a range of topics, from a painting of the South African President Jacob Zuma’s genitals to widespread poverty, the newspaper columnist and political analyst Justice Malala has cemented his status as one of South Africa’s most important voices today with sensitive, insightful commentary. On Zuma, he wrote: “The freedoms that we enjoy today, the dignity that we enjoy today, are enjoined in that [South African] constitution. For us to enjoy all these and to continue to enjoy them, we have to acknowledge that this same constitution will allow things that pain us, things that kick us in the very heart of our being, to continue. The depiction of Zuma in such a manner did so to many of our compatriots. Yet that is the bargain we struck.”

7. Nigerian pop music is taking over the continent. The captivating duo P-Squarehas been churning out hit after addictive hit. The group is made up of identical twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye. Behold their latest single: “The freedoms that we enjoy today, the dignity that we enjoy today, are enjoined in that [South African] constitution.

8. In some ways, the Rwandan President Paul Kagameis the man of the moment. Accused of helping to orchestrate a rebellion in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo for political and material gain, Kagame has, despite considerable evidence, continued to deny involvement in some of the worst violence that has taken place in the country in years. He has remained defiant even as allies like the United States and the United Kingdom pulled their aid to Rwanda, which makes up forty per cent of the country’s budget, as a result of that involvement. The international community, still grappling with its complicity in the Rwandan genocide, is now being forced to plead with him to pull back from a conflict that he won’t admit he has a hand in.

Bonus! Many people came together to provide the face of Occupy Nigeria, a protest movement that fundamentally shook Nigeria early this year. After the government removed the seven-billion-dollar fuel subsidy that made fuel cheaper for Nigerians, leading to a near halt of local trade and business as the price of fuel doubled overnight, young and working-class people organized mass protests that took over the streets. Nigerians were told that government deregulation of the petroleum industry would free up funds for other uses, an incongruous message in a nation where only the élite profits from the oil wealth. The subsidy was partly restored, thanks to protestors. The question now is whether the Occupy movement will sustain itself and hold the government accountable as reports of oil corruption emerge.

A 25-year-old man, Biodun Biliewe, on Wednesday pleaded guilty to raping a mentally retarded girl.

Nigeria To Join Organisation Of French Speaking Countries

One of the decisions reached at the end of Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council Meeting (FEC), was the approval for Nigeria to join the International Organisation of French speaking countries; the International Organization of the Francophonie (IOF).

IOF

This move agreed upon by the cabinet of Ministers is expected to further enhance the development of the nation’s education sector.

Nigeria is surrounded by many French speaking countries in the West Africa sub-region and the council noted the need for the country to effectively interact with it neighbours even though the country is not French speaking.

According to its English version of its website, the IOF which was established in 1970, has a mission to “embody the active solidarity between its 75 member states and governments (56 members and 19 observers) which together represent over one-third of the United Nations’ member states and accounts for a population of over 890 million people, including 220 million French speakers..”

FEC also approved the ratification of the agreement between Nigeria and Sweden to ensure that businessmen in the two countries do not surfer double taxation. The objective is to encourage investments in the country.

An initiative targeted at giving a stronger support to Nigerian women by providing over five million Nigerian women with mobile phones in the next couple of years was also approved by the Federal Executive Council.

The initiative is expected to enable the women folk have access to information in the agriculture incentives of the Federal Government.

The initiative will be a collaboration amongst the Ministries of Women Affairs, Agriculture, Works, Communication Technology, Water resources and Health.

Man Released From Prison For Killing Daughter Gets Out & Kills Another Daughter

A man was arrested in 1995 for killing his own daughter. Daron Duane Davis spent 11 years in prison, got out and was recently arrested again for killing his second daughter. In this case, the man was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility for parole.

prison051707

Sondaria Davis died before her first birthday after being beaten to death by her father. That’s when Davis was sentenced to 20 years in prison, serving 11 of them. His girlfriend, Sondraria’s mother, was also sentenced to probation for her role in the abuse. Davis was a free man after 2006, but obviously not reformed.

The second homicide occurred in January, 2011, after Davis beat his five-month old daughter Keris to death. The little girl died from blunt force trauma and being shaken by her father.

Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins said that the longer sentence for Davis the second time around comes from stricker sentencing laws in homicides involving children.

“Now, someone who is convicted of this crime or pleads guilty to this particular crime must pay 85 percent and then they become eligible for parole,” Wilkins said.

Nigerian Kills Ex-lover in UK over Child’s Religious Faith

It had started with the blazing fire of new-found lovers. Consumed by their passion, and determined to share love and emotional affinity, neither Esther Arogundade, 32, nor Shola Adebiyi, both Nigerians, cared a hoot about their religious differences. They found love between themselves, and religion was not going to be a barrier. Or so they thought. While Arogundade was a devout Christian, Adebiyi was a committed Muslim.

images_muslim_man_murders_christian_girlfriend_for_converting_daughter_8898906551-300x204

Between them, they could handle their religious differences. But a third member, their daughter, soon joined to change their calculation. The faith to be practised by the two-year-old daughter became an issue. Should she be allowed to be a Muslim like the father or should she, like the mother, be a Christian? Neither parent accepted to bulge. And that began to generate tension and create rift between the erstwhile lovers.

The disagreement between them strained their relationship and that drove Arogundade into the arms of another man.

Unable to stand being ditched by her, Adebiyi plotted his revenge. One day, Adebiyi, a kitchen porter, attacked Arogundade, a worker with KFC, with a kitchen knife in her home and stabbed her 13 times.

He also drank oven cleaner in an attempt to kill himself and phoned Arogundade’s new lover to say he would never see her again before confessing to the killing to a friend.

Police broke into the mother-of-two’s home in Salford, Greater Manchester, and found Arogundade lying dead on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds to her back and front.

Adebiyi was jailed at Manchester Crown Court for a minimum of 20-and-a-half years after admitting killing her.

The court heard how Arogundade began dating Adebiyi in 2007 and that they later had a daughter now aged two but split up last year after a series of rows.

Rob Hall prosecuting said: ‘These arguments were ignited by differences of opinion over the religion of their daughter – the defendant wanted her to convert from Christian to Islam, but Esther was a church goer. ‘There were arguments about expenses, bills and childcare.’ Last March, Arogundade who also had a nine-year-old daughter living in Nigeria from a previous relationship, began a friendship with another man named in court as Mr. Alabi.

While visiting family in Africa, Alabi received a sinister phone call from Adebiyi, claiming he would be killed if he returned to the UK. Alabi told Arogundade about the call and she spoke to Adebiyi but he initially denied it.

Hall added: ‘Mr. Alabi returned to the UK and the relationship took the next step and it turned into a sexual relationship.

‘They spent a great deal of time talking and texting on their mobile phones – it may well be that it came to the attention of the defendant.’ On June 26, Adebiyi cleared out his locker at work at a conference centre in Manchester then left armed with a large kitchen knife and waited for Arogundade and their daughter to come home.

Throughout that evening, there were phone calls between Alabi and Arogundade and also a child minder who was booked for the next day. But the following morning, Adebiyi was said to have made ‘frantic arrangements’ to get child care for his daughter and handed her over at 9.50 am along with her birth certificate and left in her push chair.

He then called Alabi, who asked about the whereabouts and welfare of Arogundade only to be told he would never see her again. He then called a friend and confessed he had killed her, claiming it had happened during a fight.

The friend went to the house and saw Adebiyi come out wearing a blood-stained T-shirt and holding a large black-handled knife. He saw him throw the knife into nearby bushes.

In mitigation, defence counsel, Michael Lavery, said his client had made a ‘very genuine’ attempt to take his own life by drinking oven cleaner. He added: “He took the knife to kill himself and his partner. He’s lost his daughter as well as a consequence of his own actions.

“Many men and women have to endure the discovery that the husband, wife or partner is no longer content with the relationship they have. What the law cannot permit is the use of violence, which is what you used. “It is tragic for the victim of this murder and a tragedy for the daughter and for the father too. It is his own fault, I know, but that is not going to make it easier for her.”

Passing sentence, Judge Andrew Gilbart QC told Adebiyi it was not clear exactly when he had killed Arogundade.

He added: “Your relationship had come to an end with frequent disagreements and rows between the two of you. “She formed a relationship with another man. You resented it, and tried to warn him off with threats.

“She let you know that she no longer wanted to be with you and wanted to pursue a relationship with another man. “You were most upset at that prospect. She sought friendship elsewhere, including in an affair with another man. You were understandably upset but let me be clear about this.

“Many men and women have to endure the discovery that the husband, wife or partner is no longer content with the relationship they have. “Many are jealous or unhappy. But what the law cannot and will not permit is the use of violence, which is what you used.

“I am prepared to accept that you were very upset – and indeed distraught – at what was happening to your relationship. “’When you acted as you did you were under considerable emotional strain.” After the case, Senior Investigator Andrew Tattersall of Greater Manchester Police said: “The biggest tragedy here is that a young girl has now been deprived of both her parents.

“Her mother was taken from her in a vengeful, violent attack and no sentence today can bring her back.”

“I am not dating my manager” – Tiwa Savage is sick of you rumour-mongers

We feel your pain Tiwa – ever since you and everyone eles became such huge superstars, and every photo or vídeo or tweet became a matter of national interest – no one seems to know what is real or what is not anymore.

So it is that based on pictures – and pictures alone – the whole of Nigeria thinks the ‘Kele kele love’ singer is taking her own music a bit too seriously, with her manager, Tunji “Tee Billz” Balogun, who is also chief executive of 323 entertainment.

Well she says – NOT.

“I am not engaged and I am not dating Tee Billz,” she tells Encomium this week. “If I am, you would have seen a ring on my finger indicating that I am engaged. It’s just a rumour.”

And bless the hearts of ‘dem gossip columnists – they went ahead to ask the next question on our minds. So, who’s the guy – or who will he be?

“I will like my man to be tall, dark, handsome and must be fit. He must have a good heart, work hard and must care a lot about me,” she answered.

And no, we will not comment on the fact that Balogun is tall dark, handsome (in some parts of the world), works hard and judging by the hugs, seems to care quite

Pictures: Anne Hathaway Accidentally Exposes Herself While Exiting Her Car

It has happened to Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and now it’s happened to one of my favorite actresses, Anne Hathaway. She went to the New York premiere of her new movie Les Miserableswithout any underwear. And as she exited her car, paparazzi did their job. They took photos. The photos are now all over the internet. Below is what Anne had to say about the incident
It was obviously an unfortunate incident. It kind of made me sad on two accounts. One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment and rather than delete it, and do the decent thing, sells it. And I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants.

Police Arrest Woman Who Stuffed Her Breast Implants With Cocaine

Spanish police arrested a Panamanian woman on Wednesday who landed in Barcelona from Bogota, Colombia with cocaine stuffed inside her breast implants.
The woman was taken to the police at Barcelona’s El Prat airport after her vague answers to questions about the reasons for her trip from Bogota raised suspicion at the border control, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
Spanish authorities carry out rigorous checks of passengers arriving on so-called “hot flights” from Latin America, to fight drug smuggling.
When border police discovered fresh scars and blood-stained gauze on the woman’s chest she was taken to a nearby hospital to check her claim that she had recently undergone breast implant surgery.
The implants were found to carry 1.38 kg of cocaine.
