In April, the teen told Duchesne County detectives that Daniel Dean Divine, who lives in Oregon, was her boyfriend and had asked her to take nudé pictures for him on an iPhone he had given her, the Deseret News reported. The girl said she could not figure out how to use the phone’s camera, so her mother, 35, agreed to take three photos of her to be sent to the man, according to the Deseret News. The names of the mother and the teenager haven’t been released in order to protect the girl’s identity. The woman told investigators that Divine was a “very good friend of the family,”according to KSL. She also claimed that he and her daughter were planning to wait until the girl was 18 to begin a séxual relationship. The mother was originally charged with three counts of séxual exploitation of a minor, a second- degree felony. As part of aplea bargain, she pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of third- degree felony child abuse and agreed to testify against Divine. She faces up to five years in prison. Divine has been charged with séxual
exploitation of a minor and enticing a minor over the Internet.

Why is Jude Okoye flaunting Dollar bills on social media?

We get the fact that some Nigerian celebrities like to show off their wealth – maybe because it took them a very long while to hit that status and now that they have arrived, they are uber-excited. We”ll understand and forgive them.

But one cannot help wondering what the motive is when celeb-minders post pictures of wads of Dollars on social networks?

Well that’s what Jude Okoye, manager and elder brother of the Psquare brothers recently did while on a flight with the band on a private jet to Rwanda last week.

But with the caption ‘Go getter’, maybe he was just trying to inspire the millions of Psquare fans around the world?

Female students who warm beds of politicians

Many undergraduates are smiling to the bank, courtesy of a booming business called “pimping” on campus. Gilbert Alasa (a 400-Level Foreign Languages, University of Benin student) examines the new trend in campus prostitution.
Below is an insider perspective into the shameful act:
They cruise about in posh cars while their colleagues cramp into rickety campus shuttles. They live large on campus even though the source of their wealth cannot be openly discussed. From the comfort of their off-campus hostels, they negotiate high-profile deals with powerful personalities while their mates sweat it out in stuffy libraries in school.

CAMPUS-Prostitutes

Welcome to the world of campus pimps and whores. From time immemorial, prostitution has been a thriving business. Even on campuses, it is big time business. Now, the trade has taken a new dimension. As the money-spinning business grows, so are the players increasing by the day. Among them is a network of middlemen known as pimps.

Campus pimps are socially-inclined students who explore their gregarious appeal as a tool for gathering female students to warm the beds of the well-heeled in the society.

CAMPUSLIFE investigations revealed that the pimps could be “party-riders” who keep tab of social events on campus or student-politicians who exploit their relationship with those in power. The big men could also be affluent private sector operators or cult heroes who entice their admirers with financial rewards.

Campuses are blessed with a sizeable number of young women, ready and willing to be night companions of these wealthy people, who may be politicians, top civil servants and business magnates. Campus pimps come in handy as intermediaries between the big men and their aristos – a parlance for student-prostitutes.

Among students of a federal university in the Southsouth, the story of four female students is still fresh. CAMPUSLIFE gathered that a member of a popular political party was in town for last-minute campaign during last year’s elections. In the evening, the weather was cold because of a downpour earlier in the day. To keep the guests warm, four female undergraduates were drafted to the politician and his three-man entourage. But one of the girls played a fast one on the men as she made away with the politician’s money. The story is being told till today on that campus.

In Edo State, campus pimps are regular faces at popular hang-outs in high-brow areas of Benin City. Such spots include Ritz Carlton, Hexagon, Debis Kitchen, Swallow, Time-out, Royal Marble, West View, Yak Hotel near the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi (AUCHI POLY) and Best Western.

When patronage is low, some of the girls take to stripteasing for a fee to cover operating costs incurred by the pimps. “You don’t expect me to fuel my car or burn up cash on taxi and phone calls organising babes without getting returns at the end. In fact, some of these yeye (stupid) girls want to be paid per night,” fumed a pimp who is a drop-out from a popular private university in Edo State.

Investigation revealed that many aristos now bypass pimps because of their haughtiness. In a chat on a social networking site, a pimp who uses Juiceman as username, found nothing offensive in his profession. Rather, he describes himself as a smart fellow who uses his social skills to make money.

“Clearly, I am not a robber, terrorist or Yahoo-yahoo boy (Internet fraudsters). I am not even close to most of the guys involved in bunkering or kidnapping. I am just a young man trying to key into the philosophy of using what I have to get what I want,” Juiceman wrote.

He is not alone in this attempt to rationalise has position. According to his counterpart, who is in the organising team of a popular annual show at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), the pimp business is no vice as it only complements an existing social problem.

“For me, there is no justification for criticising what I do to see myself through school. I am neither the man who sleeps with the girls nor am I the girls who chose to sleep around. After all, these men are proud to steal from our collective treasury. So, we just have to squeeze them to reclaim our stolen fortunes,” he said.

For a beauty queen and 300-Level Insurance student of UNILAG, Violet Olisah, the pimps and the aristos are culpable. “The pimping mess should be utterly condemned. The pimp is as guilty as the promiscuous girls. Many destinies have been cut in their primes through the activities of these pimps. The act must be stopped.”

On profitability, the door swings both ways for the pimp and the sex-hawker. Most times, the pimp gets his compensation from the “client” and agrees to reimburse the girls after the sex romp. Other times, the “client” demands to personally remunerate the aristo while paying off the pimp straight-away.

But Oyewole Ajibade (not his real name), 200-Level Philosophy, Ekiti State University (EKSU), said the later-payment method often put the pimp at a disadvantage. “When a client pays you and the aristo separately, the pimp stands to lose. But when you are paid both your charges and that of the girl in question, you hold the edge of the knife as to how the spoil is shared. So, it is better that way,” Oyewole quipped.

A magazine exclusively reported the activities of a pimp, who organised two female students of a university in the Southwest for a former Minister. After an orgy sex romp in a five-star hotel in Abuja, the girls and the pimp were handsomely rewarded “for a job well-done.” This shows that politicians are culpable in the decadence.

In a chat with our correspondent, a Lagos-based legal practitioner, Mr David Umoru, lamented the non-implementation of the extant law barring such trade. “Prostitution, as a social malady, has its effect on the society. Despite the fact that there are legal frameworks that bar the illicit trade, government and its agencies are paying lip service to stopping the trade….” Especially because top politicians are the main men

8 ways to ruin your relationship

by Dr. John Grohol

While most of the time we try and stay positive here on World of Psychology, every now and again reality sucker-punches us back to our senses (although not personally affecting me).

portrait-of-a-young-african-american-couple-lying-on-the-bed-and1

The fact remains that despite our wise advice over the years, we haven’t budged the divorce rate in the U.S. (not that we thought we could!). Most relationships fail — there’s simply no way to argue with it.

So maybe it would help some of our readers to catch a sign of their failing relationship before it’s too late. Sure, we all would like to think that we could see the end of our relationship coming from a mile away. But truth is, many of us need a little help.

To that end, here are 8 ways you can bet you’re ruining your relationship and heading to splitsville.

1. Take your partner for granted.

There’s no better way to help hurry the end of the relationship than to just assume your partner is always there to make your life easier. Whether it’s by going to work or staying at home, cooking dinner or doing the grocery shopping, the ins and outs of our every day existence can take an especially hard toll when it comes to taking that special someone in our lives for granted.

Acknowledge your significant other’s efforts to your joint relationship and life together (no matter who is doing what). Say “Thank you” and “please” for being served something or for someone doing you a favor. After all, you wouldn’t treat a stranger in your home in that manner, so why would you treat the one you love any worse?

2. Stop talking.

Remember the start of your relationship? You couldn’t stop talking! You might’ve spent all night talking to one another, or countless hours on the phone or cuddled up on a couch somewhere.

Relationships die when the two people in it stop talking. And I don’t mean actual, physical talking (“We talk all the time!”). I mean the kind of real, honest conversations that couples have all the time at the beginning of a relationship, but which fade over time. Here’s help for improving your communication with your partner.

That fading is a natural progression in most relationships. The key is to not let that fading turn into never having those real conversations (which aren’t about the kids, your jobs, or what you read on TMZ today).

3. Stop expressing your feelings.

As we go along in a relationship, it’s also natural to stop saying, “I love you” as often. Or showing anger when you’re angry at your partner, or showing adoration when you’re feeling especially loving toward them. It’s as if the extremes of our emotions are taken away, and all we have left is a lot of moderate, unsexy feelings.

As much as you might think those feelings are too boring to share, they remain just as important to share. Yes, the passionate feelings at the beginning of any relationship tend to fade for most people. But that doesn’t mean you stop feeling, or that you should stop telling your loved one how you feel.

4. Stop listening.

Nobody likes to not be heard. So there’s no better way to kill a relationship than to stop listening to what your partner has to say.

It shows a lack of respect for the person, and of course your significant other will pick up on the fact that you’re no longer listening. If nobody’s listening, how can a relationship grow or thrive? Especially important is something called active listening, which shows your partner you’re actively engaged in the conversation.

5. Kill the fun.

We hook up together in life for many reasons — shared perspectives and outlooks, physical attraction, shared spirituality, shared professional lives, etc. But we also enjoy one another’s company because it’s fun!

When fun leaves a relationship, it can be a sign that the relationship is heading to the rocks. Fun is a part of life and it’s definitely a part of any healthy relationship. However you and your significant other define fun, it’s important to keep doing it even as your relationship matures.

Love to dance but haven’t been in years? It’s time to make a new dance date. Met while hiking or kayaking, but haven’t made time to do it in months (or years)? Pack the backpack and get your outdoors on.

6. Nitpick.

Boy, am I guilty of this one! I’ve probably nitpicked a few past relationships into an early death. Not because I wanted to, but because it was a personal concern whose impact I never fully understood (until it was too late).

Nobody likes being told what to do, or how to do it. While some people may be more open to “suggestions” than other from their helpful partner, it can also be seen as nitpicking for little good reason.

Really? There’s a “better” way to clean the sink? That’s nice… use it the next time you do it then.

When I want to nitpick nowadays, I just keep in mind that if I want to go to the trouble of offering unrequested advice, I might as well suggest I do it myself. Or just do it next time myself, without having someone needing to ask.

Nitpicking may be a sign of needing to “control” others, but it may also just be a sign of the way some people were brought up. In any case, it’s a bad habit and one you should try and curtail in your relationship.

7. Threaten.

Wow, threatening your significant other is such a turn-on. Yeah, no it’s not. Whether you’re threatening to leave, chop off a bit of anatomy, tell someone’s parents, or find a better life in Maui, it’s never a good sign for a healthy relationship.

Threats are often made in an act of desperation or feeling like a situation is out of control — the threat is an attempt to regain control. However, threats are juvenile and more suited for children’s temper tantrums than an adult, mature relationship.

When a partner resorts to threats, it’s time to re-evaluate the relationship’s long-term potential.

8. Ignore your partner.

They say the one thing worse than being hated by someone is simply to be ignored by them. Being ignored means the person doesn’t even care enough to waste the energy of anger on you.

The same is true with relationships. If you take a lot of the previous tips and add them together, you have active ignoring. If you’re ignoring your partner (or vice-a-versa) for any period of time longer than a few days, that’s a sure sign the relationship is in trouble.

You don’t hook up with a person only to be ignored by them. If anybody wanted that, we’d simply go relive our high school prom. (Ooops, I shared too much!)

older-African-American-couple1

The good news is that these signs don’t necessarily mean your relationship is over. There is always hope, especially when both of your recognize some of these signs and decide you want to reconnect to try and grow your relationship.

If you can’t do it on your own — and a weekend getaway may be a good way to try — don’t fret. Although it may sound scary or extreme to think about, this is exactly what couple’s counseling is for. Any good couple’s therapist can help most couples improve their relationship in just a few sessions (although it may take more than a few, depending upon the seriousness of the problems).

Talk to your partner about your concerns. Then seek help if your own personal attempts to help improve the relationship don’t work out. I believe a great number of relationships have the possibility of being saved, if both partners are committed to working on changing it — and then take action.

Angry Nigerian Woman Calls Police And Says Husband Is Going To Blow Up Plane After Pair Had A Fight

A Nigerian man was grabbed by police at Newark Airport on Saturday after police were tipped off that he planned to ‘blow up’ a Delta Airlines flight to Paris.

article-2248981-168B9E51000005DC-806_634x762

But authorities now believe that the information, that came from the suspect’s wife, was a false accusation following nothing more than a domestic dispute.

The New York Post reports that Eunice Ukaegbu, 50, rang police on Okieze Ukaegbu, 58, because the couple had just had a big fight and she didn’t want him to leave the country without her.

article-2248981-168B9CBE000005DC-191_634x432

Eunice (pictured above) told the Post that she just thought she was just acting on her civic duty. ‘He told me he was going to blow up the airplane. I did what an honest citizen would do,’ she said.
The NJ nurse claims her husband ‘is a little secretive.’ Her story is that she first became concerned as Okieze had been acting distantly.

When she couldn’t open his suitcase, Eunice felt she had to warn authorities. Police and federal agents rushed to the Ukaegbu family home in Union, New Jersey, to question the possible ‘terrorist.’
Luckily for Okieze, the couple’s daughter overheard the incident and rang her father to tell him that police were on the way to apprehend him at Newark Airport.

Okieze had already passed through security and was waiting for a Delta flight to Paris, the first leg of his trip to Nigeria.

He remained at Gate B45 until authorities arrived, then calmly told them that his wife was lying and had an ‘alcohol problem.’

Police took Okieze in for questioning, pulled his luggage off the plane and checked it with bomb detection dogs.

This caused the man to miss his flight but sources at the Post claim other travelers did not experience significant delay.

After interrogation and searches, Okieze was released and cleared to take a later Delta service to Paris.

While his wife claims she contacted police out of genuine concern, they don’t believe her story. Authorities now say they plan to charge Eunice Ukaegbu.

‘It looks like that marriage went up in flames,’ a police source told the Post.

Lagos Sacks 174 LASTMA Officials For Their Involvement In Corruption

The Lagos State Government has sacked 174 officers of the State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, for their alleged involvement in corruption, overzealousness and others.

las

The sack is said to be a move to weed out bad eggs and reposition the authority for better service delivery and traffic management.

P.M.NEWS authoritatively gathered that 34 LASTMA officers were sacked two months ago over cases of corruption, fraud, overzealousness, among others.

The affected officers had their pictures and names published in the in-house journal of the state government, Alausa Alert, while the public were warned not to do business with the affected officers as they had been relieved of their posts.

Also two months ago, LASTMA recommended 200 officers for dismissal and their names were forwarded to the Civil Service Commission to determine their fate after the affected officers had faced the Personnel Management Board, PMB, a disciplinary organ of the state government.

In the last one week, 140 LASTMA officers have received their letters of sack from the Civil Service Commission after they were found wanting in the prosecution of their jobs.

P.M.NEWS’ investigation revealed that most of the LASTMA personnel sacked were junior officers who had been enmeshed in fraudulent acts, indiscipline, dereliction of duty, extortion of money from motorists, among others.

The state government warned that it would not tolerate acts of indiscipline from LASTMA officers and would not hesitate to wield the big stick on those found wanting, just as it had done to the affected officers.

Head of Service, Adesegun Ogunlewe had said that any LASTMA officer found extorting money from motorists in the guise of the new road traffic law would be dismissed outright as prescribed by the law.

He warned that government would not condone acts of corruption among its officers as transparency and accountability were the keys of governance and public officers must not paint government bad to the public.

General Manager, LASTMA, Babatunde Edu had been canvassing for improved service delivery by officers of the authority, saying that government would sack officers found to be corrupt in the discharge of their duties.

Urging the public to always report cases of corruption, overzealousness, indiscipline among LASTMA officers to the authority for appropriate disciplinary measures, Edu said once a report about a LASTMA officer was made to the authority, such officer would be investigated and if found guilty, the law would take its course.

Chairman, LASTMA, Young Arabamen also said that several officers of the authority had been dismissed in the past for involvement in corruption and indiscipline.

He warned LASTMA officers to stay away from graft and carry out their duties in a professional manner.

After My Experience With 9ice, I Wouldn’t Mind Another Marriage With The Right Man –Toni Payne

Toni Payne is the ex-wife of popular artiste fondly called 9ice. Though blessed with a son, Zion, their marriage crashed after 20 months talks about her failed marriage and shares her marital plan in a recent interview.

3de1293132661b9a096f2a9515ec6b7c
A diva, artiste manager and a publicist, she says in this interview that she wouldn’t mind remarrying if the right man comes.

Excerpts:

Many know you as the former wife of 9ice and the mother of Zion, his only son, but how do you see yourself?

Yes, they are right. I have a son known as Zion. I see myself as a diva and an entrepreneur.

Can you reach out to ladies whose marriages are not working even after being submissive?

Marriage is meant to be enjoyed and not to be endured. That is my own philosophy. You are meant to enjoy your marriage. If you are in a marriage and you are not enjoying it, why are you there?

Should they leave their kids?

Oh well, if your kids are seeing you unhappy, that means you are raising kids that are not going to be happy adults. When your marriage is not working, maybe there is no communication. A lot of times, men are busy doing their thing and women are busy accepting it because they want to be submissive. T

alk to your man and tell him what he is doing to you that you frown at. When he refuses to change, then check yourself; you are doing something that he doesn’t like and he just keeps seeing you do that.

Communication is key. I think there are lots of marriages that are not sweet. It is because the communication is not there. I always say if you want to be married to somebody in life, he should be your husband; you, his wife, mistress, girlfriend, sugar mummy, his everything.

Don’t you think people would see you as someone who couldn’t practise what she is preaching, especially as your own marriage crashed?

But they also say it takes two to tango. You can force a camel to the stream but you can’t force it to drink water. If you have two parties that are willing to make something work, it would work but if you have just one willing party, there is nothing that you can do. Even God can’t come and knock you on the side of your head for it to work. It takes two to tango, honestly.

Does this mean that you made extra efforts to save the marriage?

I tried my best.

Why then did it crash? What happened?

I won’t answer this question please.

Do you hope to remarry?

Definitely. Everybody knows that about me that I’m definitely trying to remarry. I’m hopelessly romantic, I believe in the institution of marriage. I grew up in a family and my family was very close. I grew up with family morals. I want that for my kids.

I believe my kids should grow up in a home, not a house. Definitely, I do plan on getting married again, one day, very soon, yes, hopefully. If I find the right guy, I would definitely be doing that.

What lessons have you learnt from that botched relationship?

Now, I’m going to be a little bit more careful. I would watch carefully and instead of just following my heart, I would do so with my brain. When you are younger, you are likely to make mistake, but I have realized that life doesn’t work like that.

Now, I would look at the basics. What do you want? Five, 10 years from now, where do you see yourself ? I would ask all those questions. Anybody that tries to talk to me today, maybe, telling me ‘I love you’ and all that, I will ask the person some questions. If you don’t love me, don’t say that to me. If you are able to answer those posers and your answers tally with mine, then we can go ahead; if not we call it quits.

Having learnt your lessons, what are now the qualities of your ideal man?

I think a person that has very strong family orientation. You have to be a strict family person with the strong spirit of wanting your marriage to work. That is what I’m looking for, someone whose visions are same as mine, so much that when I’m 80 years old, we are still holding hands and our kids are happy and our grand kids are happy.

What is the most scandalous story about you?

They have written so many scandalous stories about me. None is true. I’m a very level-headed person. I see myself as being intelligent enough not to do stupid things. There have been a lot of scandalous stories about me. I must say those stories weren’t fair on me.

Were there some stories that made you shed tears?

Oh yes. The most popular one was that I cheated on my husband. But did you do it? I didn’t do it honestly. I read it and for me it was a little bit painful because I know the kind of person I am. I’m hopelessly romantic. If I decide to marry somebody, I’m definitely not going to cheat on him regardless of anything. I’m not materialistic. It’s not as if I’m looking for one moneybag or so.

What do you have for mothers-in-law who poke their noses into their children’s marriages?

To mothers-in-law, I always say try and be your daughters-in-law best friend. It is the wisest thing to do. I have a son and when he decides to get married, I would try as much as possible to be his wife’s or girlfriend’s friend.

I will try to be as lenient as possible. It is not easy letting go of your son because I know that feeling. But you just have to know that this is what it is.

What was your childhood like?

My childhood was beautiful. I grew up partly here and in America. I grew up around my family. There is nothing better than the family

Nigerian Woman Caught In Insurance Fraud After She Rushes Off To Have Sex In Public

A séx romp at a public park helped prosecutors convict a California woman of faking an ankle injury to collect workers’ compensation payments, authorities said.

850e13bdd7bf767177a89a973a3233dd

Modupe Adunni Martin, 29, was sentenced to nine months in jail on Thursday in San Mateo County after pleading no contest in October to felony workers compensation fraud.

Martin was caught on videotape in August 2009 throwing her crutches into a car and running in high heels to meet her boyfriend at a public park, where she took part in a séx act that doctors concluded she couldn’t have done with an injured ankle, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

She was arrested and charged with 10 counts of insurance fraud.

“I guess love just helps one get over injuries,” Wagstaffe said in a phone interview on Friday.

Martin reported the injury in February 2009 while working as a janitor for the Sequoia Union High School District.

Claiming the injury left her unable to walk, Martin made 10 visits to doctors over a three-month span. A co-worker suspected she was exaggerating and alerted the district, which advised investigators.

Martin was taken into custody after sentencing. A call to her attorney, Emily Andrews, by The Associated Press was not immediately returned.

Martin was also sentenced to 3 years of supervised probation and ordered to pay more than $79,000 in restitution.

Man Robs Bank As Mitt Romney

A man in a Mitt Romney mask robbed a bank in Virginia, at the same location where, two years ago, a man in a Hillary Clinton mask did the same.

7ebef89638714722c08459f84487c46b

The Romney mask bank robbery occurred at a Wells Fargo in Sterling, VA, a town outside of Washington, DC. It is the closest Romney will come to DC for a while, most likely, given his failed presidential aspirations. But this robber got off scot-free, at least for now.

Police did not say how much the masked Romney was able to steal, but they did note that this was the same branch where a man in a Hillary Clinton mask made off with a sizable amount of cash two years prior.

Police have no leads, but are apparently interviewing the employees at a local Party City store, where Romney masks are still sold. Hopefully the Romney Mask bank robber isn’t dumb enough to work at a costume store. [Vibe]

Villagers recount last moment of crashed helicopter

Naval pilots – Commander Murtala Daba and Lt. Adeyemi Sowole – tried in vain to land the helicopter which crashed on Saturday at Okoroba community in Nembe Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
azazi-and-yakowa1-300x187
Governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Patrick Yakowa; the former National Security Adviser, Gen. Owoye Azazi, and two of their aides died alongside the two pilots.

Eyewitnesses said the pilots appeared to have sighted a space at the swampy mangrove, few metres to the crash site, and made some efforts to land the ill-fated helicopter.

In an unclear circumstance, the helicopter was said to have attempted going up again but in the process, its blades hit one of the palm trees surrounding the area and it came crashing.

bayelsa_crash_site1-300x184

It was learnt that Yakowa’s mobile telephone was intact as it kept ringing after the crash.

“When we brought the body out, we started hearing sounds of phone ringing from the left side of his pocket.

We later discovered that calls were coming to the telephone and it could be from concerned persons but no one answered,” a security source, who pleaded anonymity, said.

When The PUNCH visited the site, wrecked and burnt parts of the chopper were found littering the area.

The swampy mangrove filled with tall trees and vegetation is located few kilometers to the Okoroba community, off the Ogbia Nembe waterways.

The personal effects of the deceased had been removed from the scene and their charred remains evacuated by security operatives and officials of the National Emergency Management Agency.

An eyewitness, who identified himself as Anthony Marcus, told The PUNCH that a farmer close to the area saw the helicopter as it crashed.

Marcus, who led our correspondent to the crash site, said the farmer raised the alarm that attracted other villagers to the difficult terrain

“When we got there, there was smoke everywhere. But we saw the legs of Kaduna State Governor. The legs were not burnt and part of his traditional attire was intact. We knew him through his attire. But other bodies were burnt beyond recognition,” he said.

He added, “I was at the burial ceremony when the chopper took off. It didn’t take off normally and it was flying very low.”

But it was learnt that some top military officers recovered the black boxes of the helicopter to determine the real cause of the tragedy.

It was also learnt that the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Ogbia, waterside Saturday night shortly after the rescue team located the site and moved to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, under the cover of darkness.

Corinthians beat Chelsea 1-0 to win the FIFA World Club Cup 2012

Corinthians yesterday defeated Chelsea 1-0 to win the  club world cup. A 69th minute strike from Paolo Guerrero sealed the win.

It is an incredible feeling, “Guerrero told reporters after his goal sparked wild celebrations among the more than 15000 travelling Brazilian fans in the midst of 68 000.

Gary Cahill was sent off in the last minute of the game. Victor Moses and Fernando Torres were denied by brilliant saves from the Corinthians goalkeeper Cassio in a game the English side dominated.

Corinthians, who won the first Club World Cup in 2000, caught Chelsea cold when Peru striker Guerrero headed home from close range after Danilo’s shot looped up off Cahill’s boot.

“We’re coming away with that bad feeling after creating enough chances to at least draw the game,” said Chelsea captain Frank Lampard. “It’s a big disappointment to come all this way and not to win.”“We knew it would be a tough game and we knew what they would bring,” added Lampard after making his first start since returning from injury.

“Now we have to go back and win a run of games to keep ourselves in the (Premier) league (fight) and push on in every competition. We have to.”

European sides had won the last five Club World Cups, with Chelsea’s interim manager Rafael Benitez winning it with Inter Milan in 2010 and a runner-up with Liverpool in 2005.

Dead Nigerian Governor Yakowa for burial on Thursday

The newly sworn-in Governor of Nigeria’s northern state of Kaduna, Alhaji Mukhtar Yero on Sunday said the remains of late Governor Patrick Yakowa would be buried on Thursday.

Yero made this known in an interview with newsmen at the Government House shortly after a broadcast to the people of the state.

In the broadcast, the governor declared Monday, December 17 as work free day and a seven day mourning period in honour of the deceased, beginning from Sunday.

According to him, the remains of the late governor and the other victim, Mr Dauda Tsoho would be received in Kaduna on Monday.

“Details of necessary arrangements for their internment would be made known in due course.
“During the period of mourning, all national flags in the state should be flown at half staff,” he said.

He directed all the 23 local government chairmen in the state to open condolence registers at their various offices, adding that two have been opened at the Government House and the Hassan Usman Katsina House.

Yero described the late governor as a humble, dedicated and fair person, who always related well with people, irrespective of religious, tribal or sectional inclinations.

” I plead with citizens of Kaduna State to accept this sad situation, that we cannot change, with total submission to the Will of God,” he said.

He reiterated his commitment towards continuing with the legacies of his predecessor.

Bode George Received A Bogus Award- AASU

Evidence that the award conferred on former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olabode George, is bogus emerged on Friday as the project co-ordinator of the award, Olufemi Lawson, had difficulty answering tough questions about the award from our reporter.

bodegeorge-372x3000
Mr. George, an ex-convict who recently served a two-year jail term for corruption, was conferred the Kwame Nkrumah African Leadership Award by a renegade arm of the All Africa Students Union (AASU) led by Mr. Lawson.

During a telephone chat with our reporter, Mr. Lawson, who is the public face of the award and has gone through great pain to publicise the event, could not remember the names of the other nominees for the award.

“I can’t remember now but if you want I can send their names to your email,” he said sounding very unconvincing.

When pressed further to name just three other nominees for the award, Mr. Lawson couldn’t and proceeded to contradicted himself:

“I’m not a member of the selection committee but I’m aware of everything about the award,” he said.

Mr Lawson said the PDP leader was chosen for the award for his “single commitment to youth empowerment.” He also explained that the former Ondo State military administrator has helped many indigent students with scholarships and grants.

When asked to name the foundation under which the grants and scholarships were awarded, Mr. Lawson said Mr. George has been offering them in his private capacity and not through a foundation.

He could not also say the number of students that have got grants and received scholarship from Mr. George. Though he said all Mr. George needed to do was to forward the names of the beneficiaries of his grants and scholarships for verification to be considered for the award insinuating that Mr. George has solicited to be honoured with the award.

Award ceremony

According to Mr Lawson, the award ceremony that was held at the Eko Hotel and Suites was well attended by prominent members of the PDP notable among them was Vice President Namadi Sambo who was represented by controversial former senator from Osun State, Iyiola Omisore.

Mr. Lawson claimed others PDP leaders at the event were, Bode Olajumoke, a former senator representing Ondo North; former High Commissioner to Ghana, Musiliu Obanikoro; and members of the diplomatic corps and academics from across the country.

Mr. Lawson said the ceremony went well and many of those that attended praised the tremendous work done by Mr. George in empowering the youth.

Bogus Awards

Meanwhile, the leadership of AASU has distanced itself from the award. In an exclusive interview, the Secretary General of the union said Mr. Lawson is an impostor and does not speak represent the union.

“Lawson is not an official of AASU,” Mr. Amah said. “He contested for the position of deputy secretary general and lost. He was defeated by a Liberian. Since then, he has been pursuing a fraudulent scheme, using the name of the organization to hand out dubious award.”

AASU also released a statement warning the public, especially Nigerians to be mindful of dubious characters that use the guise of the union to confer bogus awards on prominent members of the public.

The statement said prominent Nigerians who have been dubbed by these fraudsters are: the Director General of Nigeria’s National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Olusegun Adewoye; the Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Margaret Ladipo; and a certain ‘Chief Solomon Iyobosa Edebiri.’

The statement said the only Nigerian duly conferred with the award is former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Expectedly, Mr. Lawson has refuted the accusation that he is a con. He said the union does not need to mandate him.

“Jonathan is my president, but I will not keep quiet” – Obasanjo

obasanjo-and-jonathan

Headlines about the ongoing battles of wills between President Goodluck Jonathan and his benefactor, former president Olusegun Obasanjo have been all the rage the past few weeks.

Obasanjo, apparently, could care less.

Speaking yesterday when tha national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Bamanga Tukur visited him at his countru home in Abeokuta, the president said he will continue to speak publicly about the state of the nation, even if that means criticising the incumbent.

“If there is anything that requires my comment, position or views, I will say it. It is only if you kill me,” he said. “It is my passion, patriotism and love that will continue to make me state my views. If I see something inimical to the party’s growth, I will talk.

“And also to disabuse the minds of rumour mongers, the President is my President. Without Nigeria, there will be no party. Even when I was in prison, I was not quiet. Those who want me and the chairman to quarrel; this visit will keep them quiet. But my mouth will not be quiet.”

Tukur was in Abeokuta, according to him to discuss Obasanjo’s place in the PDP and the country. He also took time to speak about the party’s crisis in the state, which has time and again involved Obasanjo.

“Whoever that the people have elected as far as I’m concerned, is the chairman of our party in Ogun,” he said.

“Let me assert that there is no crisis here in Ogun PDP at all. I have come here because of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who is the leader of our party and I’m now the chairman.

“Our principle today is rebuilding our party based on equity and justice. Because it is only when you give people the leadership they did not merit that you have a crisis.”

Before Tukur left, Obasanjo also used the opportunity to deal with the elephant in the room.

“I am still alive anyway,” he said.
