Petty trader gives birth to quadruplets in Lagos

It was a bundle of joy for Emmanuel Uba, 39, a second hand bags seller at Idumota market under bridge, Lagos Island, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, when his wife of 8 years and mother of his 3 children, Mrs. Genevieve Uba, 35, was delivered of quadruplets at the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Campbell Street, Lagos Island.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the children were delivered through caesarian section by the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Emosimi Odi and a team of other doctors attached to the hospital.
When P.M.NEWS visited the hospital Thursday morning, the babies and their mother were in stable condition.
Narrating her joy to P.M. NEWS, Mrs. Uba, who resides with her husband at 6 Opeloyeru Street, off Muritala Street, Bariga, Lagos gave thanks to Almighty God for protecting her throughout the period of her pregnancy and for the safe delivery of the quadruplets.
“I also want to thank the hospital management for their support despite the fact that we had no money on us. My husband warned me after the third baby that we should not have children anymore, in order to pay more attention to the three of them. But along the line, I got pregnant again. I became afraid and could not tell my husband until I could not hide it anymore. After four months, scan revealed that I was carrying four babies. I summoned the courage to tell my husband what the scan revealed and he wondered whether we could handle the situation with our little income,” she narrated.
Continuing, Mrs. Uba said “on the day of the delivery, doctors told me that I could only deliver via caesarian section. But I developed some complications after delivery. I was bleeding profusely and we had no money.
“But the hospital management took control of the situation. They provided blood for me to undergo surgery to stop the bleeding.”
Mrs. Uba informed P.M.NEWS that they are now heavily indebted to the hospital and need the assistance of good-spirited Nigerians to feed the children.
“Please, I need your help in any way possible. We can not feed these children alone. We want Nigerians to come to our aid,” she pleaded.
Uba, the husband, said when the wife delivered the babies and developed complications, he ran away because he had sold every thing in his shop prior to that time and was broke.
“I could not withstand what was happening, I went into hiding, but a voice told me to come out as the children were a blessing to me. Before I came out from my hiding, the doctors had taken care of the situation and I thought they would detain me over the debt, but they did not. I appreciate their spirit.
I am now appealing to the good Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola and other Nigerians to come to our rescue,” he pleaded.
When contacted for comment, Dr. Odi, the Chief Medical Director, said they had to abide by the directive of the Lagos State governor ‘‘that we must always save a life before any other thing’’.

Shocking Picture: Man Battling For Life After Wife Burnt House To Kill Hubby And 3 Children

A man is fighting for his life at Deborah Retief Memorial hospital after his abusive wife set the house they were sleeping in ablaze last weekend.

As the international community observed the ’16 Days of Activism on violence against women and children’, Shianyana Modise’s estranged wife went on rampage and attempted to burn her husband and three children including a two-month old baby, inside the house.

When describing details of the horrific incident, 39-year old Shianyana Modise told of how his habitually abusive wife, Violet, had phoned informing him that she suspected that the food in the house had been poisoned.

“I had gone to the cattle post on Friday when I received the call. She told me that she had not cooked any food as she suspected that the food had been poisoned. When I got back home she had put all food-stuffs into a large bowl and mixed with water. When I asked why she did that she started throwing her usual tantrums, insulting me and throwing stuff all over the place. She broke the furniture and other household property and I went to the police station and reported the incident. The police told us that this time the dispute was getting out of hand and they told us that the matter would be taken to court on Monday.”

Modise said he was awoken by a cloud of smoke engulfing his bedroom at 3am on Saturday and that when he opened the bedroom door the living room was on fire and he suffered burns as he tried to escape.

“When I tried to open the door to get out of the house I found that it had been locked. I then went through the inferno and tried to rescue Violet and the kids but their room was also locked. I managed to break the burglar bars to my room and escaped through the window. It was only then that I managed to break the other window and rescue the kids. I was screaming for help at the same time and my brother and other neighbours came and doused the flames and we managed to get Violet out of the house.”

Superintendent Simon Sitale of Mochudi Police confirmed the incident but said Violet was undergoing psychiatric examination before any charge could be considered against her.

“After the incident the affected family members who included children aged 11 years, 8 years and two months were taken to the hospital. The husband was badly burnt and he was admitted in hospital while the rest were treated for shock and were released. The woman has been admitted at Sbrana Psychiatric hospital in Lobatse for mental examination. Should the results prove that she is sane she will face a charge of attempted murder but if not she’ll walk free,” he said.

According to family members, Violet has always been hostile to her husband’s relatives and after the marriage to Modise in 2007 she stopped all the relatives from visiting.

“We share a fence but ever since she got married to my younger brother she does not allow us into her yard but her relatives are allowed to visit any time,” Modise’s brother Marutle said.

Superintendent Sitale said the incident was the first of its kind in Mochudi and advised couples to settle disputes through family mechanisms and social services.

36-Year-Old Virgin Reveals the Secrets to Practicing Abstinence

Practicing abstinence is probably one of the most challenging things to do. Your mind, spirit, and body are constantly in conflict as you decide which one (or two) is the most accurate.

Aside from the benefits of practicing abstinence that are taught in the Christian faith, refraining from séx has been scientifically proven to be successful for women who are seeking marriage. Scientists believe women who “play hard to get” are able to assess a man who will stick by her side during pregnancy.

Forty-three-year-old Lakita Garth was a 36-year-old virgin in 2005 when she kissed her boyfriend-turned-husband for the first time. Garth has gone public about her 36 years of virginity and is now helping other women around the world learn how to refrain from sex prior to marriage.

Excerpts from her interview are below:

On Her Family’s Influence on Her Choice:

In my family, if you had sex outside of marriage, someone got married, or someone got shot! I come from a line of Christians that believe your faith must impact the culture. It has to go farther than your personal relationship with Christ.

On Choosing a Mate that Is Not Into the Church:

You can’t be the key to his spiritual maturity.

Her Advice to Singles:

To be single was to be undistracted in my devotion to God. Keep your options open. God’s perfect mate for you may not look or sound like your ‘fantasy mate’.

One commenter with the user name “Chris” did not agree with Garth’s advice. He responded to her interview saying: “The Bible does not make any of the claims that this article makes about sexual purity before marriage. The abstinence model of Christianity is an inherited tradition and not a hard and fast line which the Bible draws. “Don’t have séx before marriage!” they say. Why? The Bible says we should abstain from “séxual immorality.” What is séxual immorality? “Séx before marriage,” they say. Says who? It is a tradition, not an inviolable maxim — a tradition which made sense in earlier cultures where everyone married AND they did so at a young age. Séx before marriage is certainly a risky venture, but articles like these unnecessarily shame devoted lovers who have not yet overcome the logistical hurdles of holding a wedding. In all honesty, the girl in this article sounds totally self-absorbed/self-righteous, some of the most disgusting traits for a Christian to have. We should NOT be holding her up as a model for Christian women.”

Husband And Wife Poison And Kill Their Five Children

Police in Kariobangi are holding a couple from Nairobi’s Korogocho slums after bodies of their five children were found lying in their room.
There was somber mood at the slum as police flooded the area picking pieces of evidence from the crime; It is still not clear how the children were killed since the parents were still in the house when police arrived at the scene of the incident.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple had a domestic brawl last night which may have resulted to the killings. A neighbor said that she visited the family and found the bodies of the children lying on the ground of their semi permanent house.

Neighbours called police officers who stormed into the house and found bodies of the children; the parents were arrested and are helping police with investigations. Police suspect that the children were poisoned.

244 leisure centres in Lagos have failed to comply with the Licensing Law thereby receiving a blacklist from the government.
They include hotels, event centres and restaurants that did not seek necessary registration from the authority and to comply with annual payments.
The Lagos State Government of Nigeria has also concluded plans to sue the defaulting facilities while ordering government ministries, departments and agencies not to do any form of business with the 244 hotels, event centres and restaurants henceforth.
Section 4, sub-section 1, 2 and 4 of the Hotel Licensing Law, Cap H6, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003 amended in 2010 says: “No person shall carry or keep a hotel in any premises in Lagos State without a license granted by the authority in respect of that premises under this law.”

Adesegun Ogunlewe, Head of Service, said: “It  was observed with utmost dismay that a number of such establishments in the state have refused to comply with the provisions of the law, thereby depriving the state government of its revenue that could have been used in providing essential amenities to her teeming population.”

“The registration of hotels and tourism -related outfits is an internationally accepted control mechanism evolved by the World Tourism Organisation. “Therefore, it is mandatory that all hospitality and tourism establishments operating within Lagos State be registered. The registration of all hospitality and tourism establishments will provide a database for planning, marketing and research,” she stated. Gomez, who spoke in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria urged those that were yet to fully comply with the state government’s registration requirements to do so immediately. “Hotel registration will provide accurate information to protect hotel clientele and will also provide information to users on the quality of facilities available in the establishments while the publication of such data has the potential to increase customer traffic to accredited hotels and tourism establishments,” she said.

A document from the office of the Lagos Head of Service identified the defaulting facilities as A.Y.
