He explained that N300 million would be spent on the rehabilitation of the Ninth-Mile Corner Water Scheme and re-building of eight bore holes and drilling of four additional ones. He said that N49 million would be spent on procurement of water supply facilities at the proposed state Theme Park, located in the Udi Local Government Area of the state.
Mr. Ugwoke said that N48 million had been set aside for the state’s Water Corporation to procure water treatment chemicals for the purification of raw water from the Ajalli-Owa Water Scheme.
“The State Government gave approval for the water scheme rehabilitation to be done by Eauxwell Nigeria Ltd. and the hiring of Quodroform Engineering Company as the consultant,” he said.
“The rehabilitation of the water scheme is to guard against outbreak of water borne diseases in the state.

According to him, Mr. Jonathan is expected to visit Enugu State on Saturday for the foundation laying of the international wing of the Akanu Ibiam Airport.
“The president will thereafter, have a South East stakeholder’s interactive meeting with stakeholders from the zone,’’ the commissioner said.

Principal flees town after impregnating Army officer’s daughter

Principal of Baptist High School, Ekinrin/Adde, in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Mr. Ajayi Ajibulu has allegedly impregnated one of his students (undisclosed name). The secret between the Principal and the young girl was exposed after the principal’s letter via the girl to a doctor who was to carry out an abortion on her was seen by her (the girl’s) female friend.

Investigation has revealed that the girl is a daughter to a retired Army officer who was also a close friend to the principal. Sources told our reporter that it was because of the closeness that had existed between the principal and the girl’s father that she became regular in the principal’s house, leading to the pregnancy.

It was revealed that the girl was still contemplating carrying out the abortion, which would have been the third of its kind, when her friend stumbled on the letter, and quickly let ‘the cat out of the bag’. After being informed of the development, the father raised the alarm, attracting the youth of the town who dragged the principal to the king’s palace.

Oba Solomon Hambolu, the king, had advised the community to remain calm over the matter, as his palace was capable of dealing with the matter. He cautioned them not to take the law into their hands.
HotNaijaNews has also gathered that the Principal escaped from the King’s Palace after the youth had delivered him to the king, and may have fled the town already.

Over 500 Nigerians Jailed In Brazil For Drugs – Ambassador

The Nigerian Ambassador to Brazil, Mr. Vincent Okoedion, said there are over 500 Nigerians serving jail terms in Brazil for drug peddling and related offences, affirming that many Nigerians are residing in the country without proper documentation .
Ambassador Okoedion , who disclosed this in an interview in Brasilia while meeting officials of Arik Air, who were in the country to secure traffic rights from the Brazilian authorities to commence flights.
He said the high commission will continue to ensure that Nigerians in the country are engaged in legitimate business.
He said, ” We have many Nigerians who are in prison in this country. The numbers of Nigerians who are in prison in this country are about 500, including men and women. it is the group that are actually the main concern of the mission’ because we know that prison is not the place where our people should be in Brazil and what more they are the majority of Africans in prison in this country.

Brazil
“So we visit them in prison especially during the festivals that are observed in this country like Easter and Christmas. We take to them essential items that they need like toiletries mainly. So they are the subject of on going discussions between the mission and the host government. We also hold meetings with the community to let them know that they should be law abiding and that the police would not go after them if they obey the law of the land. It is only when the police see them engaging in illegal activities that the police will harass them. And then we also know that we have to a credible community leadership or association. That way, it makes it easier for us to deal with them as a group. So we can work them through their leaders. So right now we are trying to organise elections both for Nigerians as a community and Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation .”

Nigerian Churches Stink With Corruption -David-West

Former Minister of Petroleum, Professor Tam David-West, has landed a hard knock on church leaders in Nigeria, saying they reek of corruption and other abominable practices that bring shame upon Christianity as a religion.
david-west
He said this was the reason he stopped attending church services as he could not be part of a corruption-laden church as is the case in Nigeria.

As documented in the Bible, prophets and those considered close to God were dreaded by kings and rulers. This is however not so in Nigeria, as according to Professor David-West, those who should be seen as men of God have soiled their hands using proceeds from corruption and unethical activities.

The Professor of Virology spoke Thursday when he was honoured alongside other Nigerians such as the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, former Governor of Lagos State, Lateef Jakande, a journalist, Alhaji Razaq Bamidele, and a police corporal, Azeez Arogundade, by the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders , CACOL, in Lagos.

“I don’t go to church again because I see a lot of corruption. Many of the things I was taught in church and in mission schools have been lost and I cannot practise their modern day teachings,” he said.

Professor David-West recalled an incident some years back where a staff of Sheraton Hotel stole millions of naira from his employer and donated same to Christ Embassy church and the head of the church claimed the money was donated as tithe to the church and not to any individual.

To further buttress his anger at the church leaders, he said they now shy away from telling corrupt leaders the truth, adding that these days, “when political leaders go to church, they go with a lot of camera men.

“They kneel with pious faces while deep down, their hearts are as dark as the pot. They donate to the church thinking they can bribe God,” he said.
The former minister who was honoured with the ‘Symbol of Integrity’ award also advocated for capital punishment for election riggers in the country, saying they are the real destroyers of the country’s economy.

He noted that the Boko Haram sect was not the real problem facing the country. According to him, the problem is those who sponsor the group.
“Our President said there are Boko Haram members in his government but he has not been able to bring them to book; maybe the book has not been printed,” David-West said.

He maintained that the country had enough money to keep it going and lamented that corruption, which is now official in the country, has made a mockery of Nigeria among the comity of nations.

He warned those who have continued to steal the country blind of a special place for them in hell, warning further that if they refuse to leave government, God would visit them in the way they least expect.

“I have refused a national honour because some of those who would stand before us at the podium are thieves,” he said, adding that corruption had permeated the entire country.

“If you are working with a head of state that is corrupt, you are in trouble, because they would do everything to frustrate you,” he added.
He recalled how he was jailed for life for drinking tea and accepting a gold wrist-watch, adding that he once told the Oni of Ife that, “my sin is that I refused to sin.”

He also recalled that as minister, he had about 90 per cent of the country’s wealth in his hands, but that he remained upright in the presence of serious temptation.

Mrs. Ganiat Fawehinmi, who received the post humous award of ‘Legend of Integrity’ on behalf of her late husband, asked Nigerians not only to shun corrupt leaders, but also to publicly denounce and embarrass them.

She also commended the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mariam Aloma Mukhtar for her reform of the judiciary, urging her not to be discouraged.

The beneficiaries commended CACOL for standing up to fight against corruption.

Man cuts off own penis during fight with girlfriend

The next time he fights with his girlfriend, he won’t be so cocky.
r-MAN-CUTS-OFF-OWN-PENIS-TAIWAN-large570
A drunk man in Jilong, Taiwan reportedly used scissors to cut off his own penis and testicles during an argument with his girlfriend, according to Chinese newspaper Kwong Wah Yit Poh, as translated by The Toronto Star Online.

The 46-year-old, whose name has not been released, reportedly flushed his love muscle down the toilet before his girlfriend rushed him to the hospital. By the time he got there, he had fallen into a coma due to blood loss, according to Rocket News 24′s translation of the Japanese-language website Big Globe News.

Doctors said that had the man not flushed his penis, they likely would have been able to reattach it, according to Big Globe News.

With only 1.2 inches of manhood left, the man is reportedly still able to urinate. He has reportedly emerged from his coma and is expected to recover.

Is this story too bizarre to be believed? Maybe, but it’s not the first time a man intentionally dismembered his member. In June 2012, a California man severed his own penis with an X-acto knife.

Ikeja – The Lagos State Government on Friday said it had just employed 70 women as truck drivers, as part of efforts to empower women in the state.
nigeria-peakmilk_02-300x225
The Deputy Gov., Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, announced this at a news conference in Ikeja organised to mark Gov. Babatunde Fashola`s sixth year in office.

She said that the women had been trained on driving large vehicles before they were deployed to the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) as waste truck drivers.

“We are also considering training and empowering women as Taxi drivers. We are currently examining some security risks that these women might face driving taxis.

“But we hope to partner with some hotels in the state on how we can attach some of these female taxi drivers to them, so that we can track who they are dropping off, in case there is a problem,“ she said.

Orelope-Adefulire, who oversees the Ministry of Women Empowerment, stressed that gender equality and women empowerment were top on the agenda of the Fashola administration.

She said the government had established a number of skills acquisition centres across the state, saying that thousands of women had acquired trade skills at such centres, to set up their businesses.

The deputy governor added that women entrepreneurs who were in need of tools and equipment for their trades had also been assisted by the government with such needs.

She said the government, through the ministry, had facilitated micro-credits for small-scale business women, to assist them grow their businesses.

Orelope-Adefulire said the government was making steady progress at attaining the 35 per cent Affirmative Action with the appointment of more women into top positions in the state.

“Though we are yet to attain 35 per cent Afirmative  Action, we are aggressively working towards it.Today. we have more and more women occupying top positions in government.

“68 judges, 92 magistrates and 52 Permanent Secretaries is a indeed progress. We are still working harder and we will surely surpass the 35 per cent target at the end of the day,“ she said.

The deputy governor, however, decried the growing cases of domestic violence in the state, saying that the government was taking appropriate steps to control the trend. (NAN)

Pastor:My members and I eat Indian hemp

A Pastor of a Pentecostal Church fingered for alleged kidnapping shocked detectives, as he was also arrested with bundle of Indian hemp.

indian-hemp-300x159

General overseer of Divine Justice Church, Owerri, Imo State, Pastor Clement Ezeigbo, who is currently cooling his heels in the police Anti Kidnap Unit of the state police command, told the police: “I don’t know anything about kidnapping but I am the owner of the Indian hemp (Igbo) but the good thing is that I don’t smoke it but I use it to prepare my food. I enjoy eating food prepared with Indian hemp.”

“I don’t think there is anything wrong when you use Indian hemp to prepare your food; it gives inspiration and it makes one have sober reflection and that is why I recommend it to my Church members. I use to preach to my members against smoking it but I encourage them to cook their food with hemp. “Some of my members do prepare some delicacies with it, which they serve me. I love Indian hemp because after eating Indian hemp, it gives me inspiration, then when I mount the pulpit, you will notice the efficacy of hemp.”

Explaining what brought him to the police, he told CrimeWatch that “on the fateful day, I was in my Church, praying when the police stormed the place, claiming they were looking for some kidnappers, who used to hide their victims near my Church. I told them that I was not aware of the hideouts of kidnappers. You see, it was while searching my Church that they saw the Indian hemp. Well, I did not deny ownership of the hemp, it belongs to me; I love it.”

When he was confronted by Crime- Watch whether it was right for a man of God to indulge in using Indian hemp, he said: “Let any man show me where it was written in the bible that thou should not cook with Indian hemp.” The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Katsina, told CrimeWatch that some kidnappers were living beside the Church. He said some victims were rescued by the police, who stormed the scene. Katsina said the pastor and other accomplices took to their heels on sighting the police.

He said the police were able to arrest the pastor. According to him, when a search was conducted on the Church premises, a bundle of Indian hemp was recovered. The CP added that the police were on the trail of the runaway kidnappers, who escaped arrest.

How Sex Mate Lured Businessman Into the Hands of Kidnappers For N5million

Men be careful who you rumple o! Not all ladies who talk smooth and give you access to her body is good as she would want you to believe. We gathered that a Lagos-based businessman is now licking his wound for trusting his sex mate blindly.
Kidnap of Businessman in lagos
Below is the story of how he was lured into kidnappers den by his girlfriend…
Mr Ayodele Olaoye, a businessman, on Thursday narrated to an Ikeja High Court how his ‘babe’ conspired with others to kidnap him and collect N5 million ransom from his parents.

Ayodele was testifying at the commencement of the trial of 23-year-old Esther Phillips and six others. She is said to be the mastermind of the kidnap of Ayodele on April 22, 2012.

Ayodele, who was led in evidence by the Lagos State Attorney-General, Ade Ipaye, said that he met Esther in February, 2012. He said, “I met her at a club called Pegas in Opebi, she told me that her name was Jane and that she was a student of Lagos State University (LASU).”

There friendship grew and they were sleeping together. He said Esther asked him on April 22, 2012 to come and know her hostel in LASU, which he obliged. He carried her in his Nissan Murano SUV from a branch of Guaranty Trust Bank at Opebi, Ikeja, and they headed for LASU.

“We later picked up Nna (second accused) at Dopemu. She told me that the lady was her schoolmate. After driving for some time, they told me to stop at an isolated place because they were feeling pressed,” he said.

The witness told the court that immediately he stopped the car, three men who he identified as Okonwa, Adigwe and Ezioha entered the car through the back door.

Ayodele said they were armed with a axe and knives, adding that they dragged him to the back seat. “They took my mobile phone, wristwatch and necklace. After that, I was tied, blindfolded and taken to an unknown destination… They told me to cooperate or they will kill me. Esther specifically told me to convince my parents to pay the money or the guys will kill me,” he said.

The witness said he was incarcerated for four days, adding that the accused persons called his parents on telephone and demanded for $400,000 (N60 million) as ransom.

He said his father, Segun Olaoye, later paid N5 million to them which they shared. He said that while they were sharing the money, he sneaked outside the house, where he was being held, and escaped.

“I took a motorcycle and told him to go and drop me at my father’s office on Gowon Estate in Iyana-Ipaja. After then, I wrote a statement to the police…,” said Ayodele.

Esther is now being prosecuted alongside Patricia Nna, 26; Kingsley Okonwa, 24; Osita Adigwe, 35, and Uzochukwu Ezioha, 25.

The other accused persons are Jude Sunday, 36, and Michael Olarenwaju, 31. The accused persons – two females and five males – were arraigned before Justice Olabisi Akinlade on March 5.

They are facing a five-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping. They, however, pleaded not guilty and were remanded in prison custody. The case continues…

Strange:200 Year Old Iroko Tree Kills 31 Persons,Leaves 16 Others Injured In Imo State

It was tears and anguish yesterday night in  Umudagu, Mbieri community in Mbaitoli council area of Imo state as no fewer than 31 persons have been confirmed dead following the fall of an ancestral ‘Uko’  tree estimated to have been over 200 years in existence.

big tree
The tree which fell around 8pm, Thursday night, during a rainstorm also left scores of persons injured and about 7 others either buried in the rubble or missing.
The size of the disaster was occasioned by the fact that under the tree is a location of a popular night market simply described as “Ukwu Uko market” meaning the market under the ‘Uko’ tree.
The market usually started at about 3pm everyday and terminated at about 9.30pm or 10pm.
The tree, our correspondent gathered had been a source of concern to the youths of the village who had repeatedly called for its removal to no avail. Elders of the community had described the tree as an ancestral landmark that should not be removed.

Ironically, discussion into the removal of the tree was resumed yesterday. The meeting to agree on modality and necessary appeasements to be carried out before its removal was going on in the town hall near the Ukwu Uko market, when the rain began. The meeting was then adjourned due to the rain and our source who said he was part of the meeting said, “Some of us were still on our way home when we heard the tree crashing down. On racing back to see what has happened, we met a massive carnage, a scene of blood and mangled flesh. It was a gory sight. And we tried to help as much as we can. Most of our people did not sleep a wink till this morning, as no effort was spared in saving what could be saved.”
A motorcycle operator who spoke at the scene of the disaster said he took part in the rescue and confided that, “Over 35 persons died in this tragedy, without counting those critically injured who were rushed off to the hospital. We loaded three ambulance bus-loads of corpses yesterday night, see my hands, I have not even washed it.”
About five persons were seen wailing in search of their wards who they said were at the market Thursday night but have since not been seen. Digging for those buried in the rubble yielded only more dead bodies.
The dead body of a baby estimated to be about three-year old was said to have also been recovered around 3am Friday morning. A severed leg was also left behind while the body of an aged woman was being recovered from the rubble.  A woman was however rescued alive on Friday morning and rushed off to the hospital.
Rescue efforts were hampered by the sheer size of the tree as it took a caterpillar and other heavy duty machines to move the tree to enable any substantial rescue work.
On the rescue team, were villagers, men of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps, men of the Nigerian Fire Service, some health workers and other security operatives.
The area has totally been crowded by people who came to see for themselves the size of the tragedy.

Northern Leaders Warn Jonathan: You Have Declared War

Northern elders, under the umbrella of Northern Elders Forum, NEF, have finally broke their silence on the slamming of state of emergency on three states, describing the action of President Goodluck Jonathan as an indirect declaration of war on them.

Boko Haram Battle 1
“We hereby call on the President to immediately disband the so-called Boko Haram amnesty committee, as there is no need to continue to waste public funds on a matter, whose purpose has been deliberately truncated by the very person who initiated it.”
The President’s action, which took the northern elders by surprise, came barely three weeks after Jonathan accepted a peaceful roadmap from them on how to end the Boko Haram insurgency.

Spokesman for the NEF, Prof Ango Abdullahi, who relayed the position of the group, said they were disappointed by the change of tactic by Jonathan on how to resolve the crisis in the north.

Abdullahi said: “It is very sad to see that the President has easily changed direction from dialogue and reconciliation to war in his bid to end the cycle of violence in the north.

“The volte-face by Jonathan amounts to undermining our agreement with him on peace and reconciliation and we are disturbed that he has opted for force rather than peace to end the violence.

“What the President has done has now justified the fear of those who rejected membership of the Boko Haram amnesty committee on the suspicion that he was not sincere in setting up the panel and that it was programmed to fail so as to justify military action against the north.”

Alao Akala’s S3x Mess:How he wrecked Ex-Deji of Akure’s marriage

What could possibly make a first class paramount ruler and the custodian of the tradition and customs of the enlightened people of Akure, the capital of Ondo State throw decorum and gentle-manliness, even at the height of provocation, to the wind and engage his wife in a ‘roforofo,’ fight, which led to his dethronement.
alao-akala-s3x-mess-211x300
First Weekly can authoritatively reveal the missing link in this jigsaw puzzle, which has been carefully kept away from the public since the unfortunate incident.

The ex-Deji of Akure, Prince Oluwadare Adepoju Adesina, who was then riding really high against the will of some powerful indigenes of Akure, including the Lisa, Chief Davies and who had been recommended for deposition, finally nailed his own coffin on May 30, 2011, when he personally drove himself from his palace to the popular Hospital Road residence of his estranged wife, Olori Bolanle and dragged her out of the house and gave her the beating of her life.

That was the last straw that broke the camel’s back, the state government decided to act fast to avoid a total breakdown of law and order in the town as a result of the outcry that greeted this act, so on Thursday, June 10, 2010, the almost 5-year reign of the Deji of Akure was brought to an inglorious end as he was deposed and banished from the town.

“The story that had not been told is the reason behind this strange action of the cosmopolitan man, who was then the king, having lived and worked most of his life in London, why did he end up this way, why couldn’t he keep his temper in check,” those who claimed to know revealed to us last week.

“Without trying to justify some of the actions of Prince Oluwadamilare Adepoju, while on the throne, like his penchant for picking quarrels with the high and low in public, what really irked the man was the discovery that his wife, who is now late and should not be spoken ill of, was having an affair with a governor, who was supposed to be his chief, his friend and benefactor.

“The romance between Otunba Christopher Alao Akala, who was then the governor of Oyo State and Olori Bolanle Adesina, nee Fadeyi, was something he couldn’t stomach any longer, the woman was merely supposed to be the go-between the governor and the monarch in their business dealings, nothing more than that. It was this discovery that drove the king to the extent he went, you can imagine, a whole king suffering the degradation,” said an informant.

The whole thing initially started as a rumour, but when it was finally confirmed by the person, who was always with the olori during her visits to the governor on behalf of the king, the king decided to challenge the olori, who had also initially expressed her displeasure with the purported romance between Kabiyesi and one of the wives of the late Bashorun Moshood Abiola.

She vacated the palace on the grounds that Prince Adesina was becoming more of a stranger to her since he started dating another woman, forgetting the fact that the man was even married before he came back home from London to contest for the throne and only met Bolanle during the contest and the Owo-born lady stuck with him till he was made king and she also performed all the rites as the olori.

Our source disclosed that the path of ex-governor, Akala and the kabiyesi crossed, when a mutual friend of the king, while in London, introduced the king to Akala. The mutual friend was a close aide of the governor.

It was during the tenure of Dr. Olusegun Agagu, and the monarch, who was not too comfortable with the policy of the Agagu government on the Buy, Operate and Transfer policy of the model market built in his community by the government, felt he had been shut out of the deal as he was only guaranteed peanuts, was not happy and he told those close to him, including the aide to former governor Akala, who promised to facilitate a meeting between the governor and the monarch.

“When they finally met, Akala gave the monarch a contract in Oyo State to supply bullet proof safe and if I can recollect, the first pick was about N70 Million, this was to buy bullet proof safes; the kabiyesi started enjoying the working arrangement and was very visible in Ibadan, the seat of power,” a source divulged.

With time, Akala advised the monarch to put someone close to him forward as a front as it was not good for a whole monarch to be seen waiting for payments.

They both agreed on the choice of Olori Bolanle and another close aide called Collins.
The monarch was to later bestow a chieftaincy title on Alao Akala for his role in his life; he made him the Basorun Atunluto of Akure at an elaborate ceremony in Akure Town.

Not long after this, the visits of Olori Bolanle and Collins to Ibadan became regular to pick-up for kabiyesi and on one of such visits, former governor Akala told his aides to always check the olori into the presidential suites of the hotel and put Collins in a standard room.

Our source told us that one thing led to another and the governor started paying very late night visits to the Olori in her hotel room, and they were reportedly all over one another.

On one or two occasions, Collins was heard complaining that ‘ori ade will not like this kind of arrangement,’ but all fell on the deaf ears. Our source revealed that it was Collins, who spilled the beans to his boss, kabiyesi, on the matter and since this development, the relationship nose-dived and both men started avoiding each other, but none could summon the courage to confront the other, either for the king to accuse Akala of sleeping with his olori or for the governor to accuse the kabiyesi and Collins of trying to tarnish his image.

The matter was like this until Olori Bolanle reportedly had a strong alibi in the kabiyesi romance with the late M.K.O Abiola’s wife and hurriedly moved out of the palace.

While the king was grumbling about his plight, the olori was said to be unconcerned and continued the business on her own, she was living well and even bought herself a jeep, it was this that sparked the demon in the king to put an end to the whole matter in his own way, which unfortunately cost him his throne.

“I can confirm to you that the last contract she got was executed by this so-called aide of former governor Akala and one Femi Babalola, Jogor, a politician, who is said to be interested in the seat of power in the state,” said an insider.

Jogor was the consultant, Olori Bolanle was to have made a cool N10 Million from the deal, but on her dying bed, she was told the money accruable to her was N6M, the Olori was not happy, but she could do very little from her sick bed, but we understand she told her family to make sure they collect the difference of N4M in case of any eventuality.

“You cannot cheat the dead, so if these Akala men have conscience, they will come and do what is right before it is late,” a source maintained.

“On repeated occasions, Ebong invited the victim to the staff room informing her of his desire to have an intimate relationship with her. Consequently, the victim became a regular visitor to the staff room during break periods…”
Ebong, who teaches Physics and Chemistry at the Dee Jewels International College, Gowon Estate, Egbeda, was arrested during school hours after a complaint was lodged at the police station by Spaces for Change, a non-governmental organisation on youth development, on behalf of the pupil and her guardian, Mrs. Theresa Amaechi.

The petition revealed that Ebong began harassing the victim from the first day of her enrolment in the school in January 2013.

The petition read, “On such visits [to the staff room], he made sexual advances to her which often involved kissing and hugging. Several times, Ebong followed her home, waiting at the gate to avoid being seen by her guardian.”

The petition alleged that under much pressure from Ebong, the victim eventually invited the teacher to her guardians’ home while they were away.

Ebong was alleged to have cajoled her to expose her private part, after fondling her breasts and kissing her.

It was said the harassment became too persistent, that the victim allegedly earned the title, “Uncle Phillip’s wife,” among her classmates and friends.

Amaechi told Punch that “The victim is a timid girl. I did not know the extent of the harassment she was facing until she opened up to me last Friday. Earlier, she had told me Ebong was asking her for a relationship and I told her to reject his advances. I thought it would stop at that.

“I was shocked when she told me last week that she was no longer interested in staying in the science class; she wanted to switch to the arts and when I asked why, she said it was because Ebong had banned her from his classes.

“Apparently, she had told him that I was aware that he had asked her for a sexual relationship. The revelation angered him. He even went as far as threatening that she would fail her examinations,”
Executive Director of Spaces for Change, Mrs. Victoria Ibezim-Ohaeri, said Amaechi came to her with the case on the same day her ward confided in her.

She said, “We are prepared to seek legal redress in the court should the school and police fail to investigate this matter and exercise full disciplinary action against Ebong. Our investigation has also shown that there are other students currently being abused by this same Ebong.”

When confronted, Ebong denied. He blamed the entire situation on his interest in his students’ success:
“I am close to all my students; that is what I was taught in the College of Education that a teacher had to be friendly. I just took an interest in the victim because I noticed she was not taking her homework seriously. All this talk of my touching and kissing her, they are all lies. I admit going to her house but it was because I wanted to see her guardian.”

MUST READ! Fashola: Porting From Admirable Achievements To Peeving Policies

Nigeria has 36 federating states with one man atop the governance of each. I admire a few of them for their courage, diligence, forthrightness, hardwork, vision among other delectable traits and one of those is Lagos state governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN.

Fashola and Lagos Development
‘[But] in recent months, the goodwill Governor Fashola enjoys has been plummeting. This is the honest truth and his aides as well as government officials should be bold to voice out.’
We like(d) him because he obviously knows what it means to occupy a Government House. Also his grasp of such a complex city confirm that he knew what he set out to accomplish. In a number of instances, BRF has proven that he isn’t one of the many accidental public servants in the country. His beautification campaign, education and healthcare projects and markedly the restoration of sanity in hitherto black spots; prominent is the cleansing of Oshodi which till date amazes everyone.

I recollect Fashola’s address at the commissioning of the Cele Bridge on Oshodi-Apapa expressway. That day, he told everyone in attendance that he dreamt of constructing the link as a little boy. According to him, there used to be an improvised wooden bridge there decades ago and that some miscreants would demand for money before pedestrians were allowed passage. Saddened by the suffering, he promised himself to fix the situation once he has the clout to do so. The bridge erected at the cost of N1.1 billion is three years old.

In view of the above story and others, the thought that my hero would suddenly become insensitive to the plight of millions of struggling citizens is puzzling.

I arrived in Lagos from Abuja on the first day of May and I stayed for two weeks – busy weeks. It is the classic official trip where you hardly have time for personal parade. Usually when I’m in Lagos and have appointments on the Island (the highbrow places that is), I move round in a chattered cab. My chauffer is Mr. Amos, one of the many erstwhile fans of Fashola. As he took me to my destinations throughout the period, he brought me up to speed, narrating what the Centre of Excellence has become. He spoke of neglect in his area of Ndike/Obawole in Ifako-Ijaiye local government; the high-handedness of the many of the state-owned agencies; the bogus rates transporters are forced to pay et cetera. Amos further lamented the poor state of roads in many parts of the state including the prestigious Victoria Island and Ikoyi, his usual work-route.

Commenting on the issue of ‘Okada’, the hustling father of four, who although supported the ban, alleged that once it is time for elections at whatever level in the state, the administration systematically goes soft on the riders so as to garner their votes.

At a point during his complaint, one would think that the man was paid to castigate the helmsman of Lagos. To convince me his grouse was genuine, he cited instances as though foreseeing I would someday write about it. He added that judging by the present, more adversity await Lagosians, especially the common man. Days later, Amos prophecy came to be reality.

On May 12, I attended an event at Opebi area of Ikeja, the capital of Lagos. It ended around 9pm and unfortunately, there was no luxury of a private car on this occasion. I walked up to the entrance of Salvation Road, about a kilometer from the popular Adebola House. Within the next twenty minutes, only three buses stopped to offload and load waiting passengers. A glance showed we were about two dozen; a few others joined intermittently though.

As the frustration grew, an elderly woman was the first to protest discernibly: “All these Keke dey strike?” she asked rhetorically. A middle-aged man in the crowd soon announced that the state government just banned tricycles from the many parts of the metropolis. Reacting, a stranded lady hissed with visible repugnance. She was worried that commuters are now at the mercy of lawless danfo drivers and hoodlums operating in non-public vehicles, disguised as Taxis. And so a public dialogue started; a bus-stop turned into one of the several agents of socialization.

In recent months, the goodwill Governor Fashola enjoys has been plummeting. This is the honest truth and his aides as well as government officials should be bold to voice out. In case they do not know, enjoying AC’d official cars, offices and millions in personal bank accounts yet ignoring the sorrows inflicted on Lagosians is a great disservice. But the questions is: In this type of clime, why would anyone leading a municipal of over twenty million people force tricycles out of districts that are not highways? Hasn’t Baba Fash successfully punctured the promise of a better welfare for the populace?

The governor has two vital years left on his contract and I wish he uses it wisely. He does not need a strategist to inform him that his policies henceforth will affect the decision of the electorate in 47 months; he does not need a soothsayer to predict that this latest order will part of the presupposition upon which hundreds of thousands of residents will decide whether (or not) to support his ‘All Progressives Congress’ platform in 2015.

A personal friend is of the view that the enormous accolades showered on Fashola over the years is probably making him feel cool and acting up; I cannot agree more. But then, one believes that the administration is fully aware that succor is what the people desired when they voted en masse in 2011, not untold hardship.

NUC Names 41 Illegal Universities

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has unveiled the identities of the illegal “universities” with known addresses operating in the country. The commission disclosed this yesterday at the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC) headquarters during a joint press conference on the activities of the operators of the illegal “universities” across the country.
ruqayatu-rufai-and-okojie-300x197
According to a release signed by the NUC deputy director (legal), Moses Awe, and made available to LEADERSHIP, 41 illegal universities have so far been identified with fixed addresses and have been published on NUC website.

Meanwhile, the ICPC also disclosed at the briefing that it had commenced a nationwide joint operation with security operatives, beginning yesterday, to close down the premises of the 41 identified illegal “universities”, with the aim of seizing their properties, making arrest of operators and prosecuting the culprits.

The culprits were allegedly either using a fake name or illegally operating a satellite campus in the name of an approved and known institution.

The suspects included University of Accountancy and Management Studies in Lagos, Concept College London with a campus in Gwarinpa, Abuja; Imo State University operating in a primary school in Garki, Abuja; a fake campus of Imo State University in Asaba, Temple University in Orozo, Abuja; Volta University College in Aba; Irish University Business School London anchored by Lobi Business School in Makurdi; Open University of Nigeria, Wuse II, Abuja; Mr. David Lornem New Idea Management at NNDC Building, Kaduna; another Imo State University satellite campus operated by Lucia Group of Schools at Ibusa; Volta University College in Aba; Abia State University study centre; Triumphal University in Omugbo town; Rockville University, Uburu, Royal University, Abakaliki; University of Caribbean in Ikorodu, Lagos; University of Education Ghana with centres in Lagos and Awka; Irish University Business School in Apapa, Lagos; Christ Message International University, Isolo, Lagos; University of Nigeria study centres in Surulere and Ikorodu, Lagos; University of Ibadan campus in Lagos, among others.

According to Prof. Olu Aina, who stood in for the ICPC chairman, Barrister Ekpo Nta, the action is the first in the series of implementing the outcome of an ongoing ICPC/NUC University System Study and Review (USSR), for which ICPC sought and obtained a Federal High Court warrant to clamp down on the illegal institutions.

LEADERSHIP had reported that the commission, through its chairman on Thursday last week in Calabar, had announced the discovery of 67 illegal universities nationwide with a warning that it would soon commence crackdown on the promoters of such illegal institutions.

“The activities of these illegal operators have impacted negatively on the mental, psychological and economic wellbeing of many young Nigerians and their parents. The institutions constitute an embarrassment to the government and remain a monumental corruption of the education system.

“Therefore, an inter-agency task team comprising ICPC, the NUC, the police, the State Security Service and the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps will continue the exercise until all corrupt practices and impunity associated with the physical existence of such illegal institutions cease completely,” Aina said.

The ICPC said a lot of the “universities” do not have fixed addresses while some have become itinerant in order to beat the law, adding that those being closed down were established in contravention of the law which states that any application for the establishment of a university must be done through the NUC only. The anti-graft agency therefore called on members of the press, civil society organisations, parents and prospective students for cooperation on information sharing in order to check the menace.

The commission also advised school proprietors to be wary of lending or hiring out their facilities for these “after school hours and weekend” institutions to avoid having their premises sealed off or seized.

For his part, Prof. Shola Akinrinade, who represented the NUC executive secretary at the briefing, also denied insinuations that the commission had earlier granted temporary approval to the illegal institutions to operate. He said “the NUC does not grant temporary approval or licence to operate a university,” hence the publication of legal and illegal institutions on its website.

ICPC storms Benue, arrests proprietor, registrar of fake varsity
Meanwhile, the ICPC also yesterday stormed Markurdi, Benue State capital, and arrested the registrar and proprietor of Lobi Institute of Management and Technology for allegedly awarding fake degree certificates. The anti-graft team gathered that the school was affiliated to a foreign university called Irish University Business School in London

A statement from the commission’s resident consultant (media), Folu Olamiti, said the proprietor of the institution, Dr Peter Ahemba, and the registrar, Chihi Joseph, were later quizzed by operatives with relevant materials retrieved from them that would help in their investigation. Ahemba however denied ever been affiliated with any foreign university but said that the school only awards certificate to its students.

Speaking with newsmen in Makurdi, ICPC deputy director, education department, Mr Muhammed  Ashiru Baba, said that the commission was working in line with section 6 of the ICPC Act.

He lamented the rising rate of fake universities in the country, stating that four of such illegal universities were in Benue State axis and assured of the efforts of the commission to rid the country of the illegal universities so as to save education from total collapse.

The team which also visited the North-Central University based in Otukpo discovered that the proprietors of the university had closed the institution about five years ago. Before closure, the institution operated in a private secondary school called Ujor Memorial College in Otukpo with dilapidated buildings, while reports indicated that no fewer than 5,000 students were attending the school, most of them from the eastern part of the country.

12 year-old girl raped in Benin

Osagioduwa said her parents were dead and she lived in a church and was looking for a place to lay her head when the incident occurred.

“I went out with my cousin and we saw a man. We told him we were looking for a place to sleep and he told us to go to the police station but we ran away.

“Another man told us her sister would help us. He took us to his house and after he took us to one school and I said I wanted to sleep.”

“He grabbed me from the back and closed my mouth. He hit me on my neck and I could not shout. He lay on top of me. I woke up and manage to run away.”

Various groups including the Association of Orphans and Vulnerable Children and the Child Protection Network were called and they invited the police who took her to the hospital.

Asari Dokubo Dragged To Court For Threatening Nigerians

The Anti-Corruption Network, an Abuja-based NGO, has taken the challenge to sue ex-militant leader, Asari Dokubo for treason over comments he made about turning Nigeria into a theatre of war if his kinsman President Goodluck Jonathan is not voted by Nigerians in 2015.
Asari Dokubo 2
“This morning, my lawyers instituted a case against Asari-Dokubo, that Nigeria will be made ungovernable if President Jonathan isn’t re-elected in 2015.”

The Executive Secretary of Anti-Corruption Network and former House of Reps member, Dino Melaye, revealed this to journalists at a press conference at the organisation’s headquarter in Abuja.
OluFamous.Com also gathered that President Jonathan is not too pleased with Asari for the threats.

Suicide Bomber Cried For Not Dying And Go Meet His Virgins In Heaven

A prosecution witness on Tuesday told an Abuja Federal High Court that an arrested Boko Haram member, Mustapha Umar, wept bitterly over his failure to die in a suicide-bombing mission.

THISDAY Bomber in Kano
The arrested suicide bomber is “always crying because the operation he went for failed, he said that he would have been happier if he had died in the operation with people (victims) so that he would be in heaven.”

Umar is standing trial for bombing a plaza housing the offices of some newspapers in Kaduna in April 2012.

The witness, a police detective, said he interrogated Umar after he was arrested in Kaduna and brought to Abuja. The accused is unhappy because not dying with victims of the attack had denied him the opportunity to make it to heaven and enjoy his “virgins”.

Testifying while being led in evidence by prosecution counsel, Mr. Simon Labaran, the witness narrated how Umar was handed over to him at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Area 10, Garki, Abuja, after his arrest in Kaduna on April 26, 2012.

He said, “I was serving in Force CID Area 10, Abuja, as a detective in charge of investigation of terrorism cases. On April 26, 2012, the accused person was brought from Kaduna and handed over to me for discreet investigation. The accused person was involved in the bombing of ThisDay office (in Kaduna).”

2000 soldiers, fighter jets deployed to Borno state

About 2,000 security operatives and military hardware, including fighter jets have been deployed to Maiduguri ahead of yesterday’s declaration of State of Emergency.

In neighboring Yobe State, it is not clear how many soldiers were deployed but residents said shortly after the declaration of state of emergency, stop and search operations have been intensified in the state capital while movement have been restricted in other places.

Residents said the deployment of the federal troops, including the army, navy, air force and operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) began at the weekend.

“We started sensing danger on Saturday when we saw military trucks conveying soldiers to the Joint Task Force (JTF) headquarters along Pompomari area,” Usman Jika, a resident of Maiduguri said.
“By Sunday morning, so many roadblocks have sprung up in the state capital and there was noticeable cordon and search of houses by new faces (soldiers),” he said.

A resident of Kumshe, one of the red spots in Maiduguri said his neighbour was beaten to pulp on Sunday when soldiers besieged the areas and forced all the people out of their houses.
“All the soldiers that came to the neighborhood appeared new in the town, some of them said it is now time for ‘fire for fire” he said.

Another resident said he saw military aircrafts landing at the Maiduguri International Airport and the air strip at the Air Force base in the state capital.

“A lot of fighting equipment have been deployed to Maiduguri,” Hajja Maimuna, a resident of Gomari, whose house is close to the Air Force base said.

“We are really terrified because the military operatives coming to Maiduguri in the last two days far outnumbered those that came during the previous emergency rule,” she said.
“Even though the state governor has not been removed, which is good, the truth is that Maiduguri is now a garrison town, full of angry soldiers who are ready to kill at the slightest provocation. The deployment will definitely hamper social and economic life of the people,” she said.

Boko Haram Kills CAN Leader After Jonathan Declares State Of Emergency

Heavily armed gunmen said to be members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect, on Tuesday evening shot dead the a leader of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in Borno State.
Oritsejafor-in-tears
Faye Pama Musa, CAN Secretary in Borno, was killed inside his Maiduguri residence less than an hour after President Goodluck Jonathan declared a State of Emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States.

The National President of CAN, Ayo Oritsejafor, confirmed the cleric’s killing…
Kenny Asaka, the spokesperson to Mr. Oritsejafor, in a brief statement described the killing as “sad.”

Jonathan had before the incident slammed a state of emergency on Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, saying it had become necessary for the Government to take extraordinary measures to restore normalcy.

“After wide consultations, and in exercise of the powers conferred on me by the provisions of Section 305, sub-section 1 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, I hereby declare a State of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states,” Jonathan said.

Jonathan said his government is on top of the situation and will restore peace soon.

NLC supports Nigerian Teachers on planned indefinite strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed support for the National Union of Teachers’ proposed indefinite strike over non-payment of their 27.5 per cent enhanced allowance.
The NLC president, Abdulwaheed Omar, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.
The teachers in public primary and secondary schools plan to commence an indefinite strike from June 1.
Mr. Omar said that the 18 states that had yet to pay the allowance defaulted in the agreement reached with labour on the payment.
“It is the responsibility of the NLC to support the states whenever they think it is time for them to embark on a strike.
“We have written to the union to furnish us with details of the defaulting states, and I am glad that the union’s National Executive Council took a decision on this,’’ Omar said.
The defaulting states are Benue, Cross River, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Edo, Nassarawa, Zamfara, Plateau, Taraba, Borno, Kogi, Niger and Sokoto.
The NLC boss said that the congress was also battling with the payment of minimum wage as some states had yet to commence payment.
He said that the congress had agreed on the modality of payment, adding that the state congress would decide the manner of implementation.
Mr. Omar said the states’ councils are expected to negotiate and come up with the salary table, noting that “the NLC is on the negotiating table with the states on how to commence payment.’’

At Least 45 People Killed By Fulani Herdsmen In Benue State

New reports making rounds since yesterday evening indicate that over 45 people have been killed in Agatu Village of Benue state by militiamen believed to be members of the Boko Haram sect.

herdsmen
On Sunday 12th May, the Fulani herdsmen attacked the villagers as they buried some members of the village, and opened fire on the mourners, killing at least 45 of them.
The Agatu people have now cried out in an SOS message over the killings, appealing to the Federal Government and the Senate President (David Mark)who is an indigene of Benue State  to intervene.
See the unedited message after the cut.

“HELP!!!! HELP!!!! HELP!!!! HELP!!!! MY PEOPLE UNDER ATTACK.News reaching me this afternoon states that over 45 persons laying down dead by some unknown group (which i believe to be Boko Haram) in my FATHER’S LAND, AGATU, area of Benue state. It’s a painful incident which urgent attention needs to be taken by our dear President, Governor and the Senate President. Please Nigerians, we need your help”Signed Ochenjele Isaac
Similarly, Villagers in Kagoro, Kaduna State have reported their area as coming under sporadic herdsmen shooting yesterday night 13th May,2013.
Kagoro, in Southern Kaduna, is where fighting broke out between soldiers and some suspected Fulani herdsmen after the gunmen resumed attacks yesterday evening in the area.
Sources say gunmen who were resisted by Nigerian troops on Sunday in Zangan, Kaura local government area, surprisingly resumed attacks this evening in the same area burning many houses and churches including that of the district head of Zangan, who is reportedly missing after the attack. The invaders also shot an unspecified number of villagers.
One resident explained that the village is now empty as the locals have fled to neighboring villages which are far from the scene.
The military authorities and the Kaduna State government seem unable to halt the frequent attacks in the region that has so far claimed several villagers in the predominately Christian area of the state.
What is with the attacks by Fulani men on Nigerians??? What is really going on with security in this country?
May God rid Nigeria of all these evil men…too much blood in the land.

“No matter what it takes, we will win this war against terrorism!”- Jonathan (plus full speech)

“No matter what it takes, we will win this war against terrorism!”
President Jonathan said, while declaring a State of Emergency in the top three Boko Haram hard-hit States, namely Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.
Jonathan 2
Strangely, President Jonathan declared that all political office holders in the affected states would continue to remain office, claiming that it was the terrorists that have prevented them from doing their jobs.

Below is his Complete Speech on the latest development:
ADDRESS BY PRESIDENT GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN, GCFR ON THE DECLARATION OF A STATE OF EMERGENCY IN BORNO, YOBE AND ADAMAWA STATES IN ORDER TO RESTORE PUBLIC ORDER, PUBLIC SAFETY AND SECURITY IN THE AFFECTED STATES OF THE FEDERATION

MAY 14, 2013

Dear compatriots,
1. It has become necessary for me to address you on the recent spate of terrorist activities and protracted security challenges in some parts of the country, particularly in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Plateau and most recently Bayelsa, Taraba, Benue and Nasarawa states. These unfortunate events have led to needless loss of lives and property of many innocent Nigerians including members of our security forces.

2. The recent killing of security operatives by a cult group in Nasarawa state is particularly condemnable. I have directed that no effort or expense be spared in identifying and bringing to justice all those who had a hand in the killing of the operatives.

3. The activities of insurgents and terrorists have been reprehensible, causing fear among our citizens and a near-breakdown of law and order in parts of the country, especially the North. We have taken robust steps to unravel and address the root causes of these crises, but it would appear that there is a systematic effort by insurgents and terrorists to destabilize the Nigerian state and test our collective resolve.

4. Since I returned to the country after cutting short my visit to South Africa and aborting a planned state visit to Namibia, I have received detailed briefings from our security agencies. These briefings indicate that what we are facing is not just militancy or criminality, but a rebellion and insurgency by terrorist groups which pose a very serious threat to national unity and territorial integrity. Already, some northern parts of Borno state have been taken over by groups whose allegiance is to different flags and ideologies.

5. These terrorists and insurgents seem determined to establish control and authority over parts of our beloved nation and to progressively overwhelm the rest of the country. In many places, they have destroyed the Nigerian flag and other symbols of state authority and in their place, hoisted strange flags suggesting the exercise of alternative sovereignty.

6. They have attacked government buildings and facilities. They have murdered innocent citizens and state officials. They have set houses ablaze, and taken women and children as hostages. These actions amount to a declaration of war and a deliberate attempt to undermine the authority of the Nigerian state and threaten her territorial integrity. As a responsible government, we will not tolerate this.

7. Previously, we adopted a multi-track approach to the resolution of this problem through actions which included persuasion, dialogue and widespread consultation with the political, religious and community leaders in the affected states.

8. We exercised restraint to allow for all efforts by both State Governors and well-meaning Nigerians to stop the repeated cases of mindless violence.

9. Yet, the insurgents and terrorists seek to prevent government from fulfilling its constitutional obligations to the people as they pursue their fanatical agenda of mayhem, mass murder, division and separatism.

10. While the efforts at persuasion and dialogue will continue, let me reiterate that we have a sacred duty to ensure the security and well-being of all our people and protect the sovereign integrity of our country. Therefore, we shall, on no account, shy away from doing whatever becomes necessary to provide the fullest possible security for the citizens of this country in any part of the country they choose to reside.

11. We have a duty to stand firm against those who threaten the sovereign integrity of the Nigerian state. Our will is strong, because our faith lies in the indivisibility of Nigeria.

12. Following recent developments in the affected states, it has become necessary for Government to take extraordinary measures to restore normalcy. After wide consultations, and in exercise of the powers conferred on me by the provisions of Section 305, sub-section 1 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, I hereby declare a State of Emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.

13. Accordingly, the Chief of Defence Staff has been directed to immediately deploy more troops to these states for more effective internal security operations. The troops and other security agencies involved in these operations have orders to take all necessary action, within the ambit of their rules of engagement, to put an end to the impunity of insurgents and terrorists.

14. This will include the authority to arrest and detain suspects, the taking of possession and control of any building or structure used for terrorist purposes, the lock-down of any area of terrorist operation, the conduct of searches, and the apprehension of persons in illegal possession of weapons.

15. The details of this Proclamation will be transmitted to the National Assembly in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution. But in the meantime, let me make it clear that within the purview of this Proclamation, the Governors and other political office holders in the affected states will continue to discharge their constitutional responsibilities.

16. I urge the political leadership in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states to co-operate maximally with the Armed Forces and the Police to ensure that the exercise succeeds. We call on the citizenry to co-operate with our security agencies to ensure a return to normalcy within the shortest possible time.

17. I am again approaching our neighbouring countries, through diplomatic channels, as done in the recent past, for their co-operation in apprehending any terrorist elements that may escape across the border.

18. Nigerians are peace-loving people; these sad events perpetrated by those who do not wish our nation well have not changed the essential character of our people.

19. I want to reassure you all that those who are directly or indirectly encouraging any form of rebellion against the Nigerian state, and their collaborators; those insurgents and terrorists who take delight in killing our security operatives, whoever they may be, wherever they may go, we will hunt them down, we will fish them out, and we will bring them to justice. No matter what it takes, we will win this war against terror.

20. I am convinced that with your support and prayers, we shall overcome these challenges and together, we will restore every part of our country to the path of peace, growth and development.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Pres. Jonathan declares state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe

President Jonathan has declared an indefinite state of emergency in three Northern states, Adamawa, Borno and Yobe, citing insecurity. He made the announcement in a nationwide live broadcast this evening. With this declaration, the president has given the military the authority to take over the security of the states, though all political office holders in the states would still continue in office.
jonathan
President Jonathan said the efforts at dialogue with militants will continue but will take extra ordinary measures to maintain peace. He immediately ordered troops to be deployed to the states to arrest and detain suspected terrorists, take over of suspicious buildings, and detain persons suspected to be in possession of arms. On terrorism, he said:
“We will hunt them down, fish them out and bring them to justice. No matter what it takes, we will win this war against terror”
This action is so long overdue. Just wondering why Nassarawa wasn’t included.

Private jets used to smuggle cash, fugitives – FG

According to a Punch report, the Federal Government believe that private jets in Nigeria are being used not only to smuggle money out of the country, but also to smuggle wanted criminals out of the country. See the report below.

oritsejafor_jet
The Federal Government on Sunday said illegal consignments and cash in local and foreign currencies were being smuggled on daily basis in and out of the country aboard private jets.
It also said some persons that securities agencies had declared wanted were being airlifted out of the country aboard private and chartered jets.
As a result, it insisted that pilots flying such jets must declare the passenger manifest before being allowed to take off.
An aircraft manifest contains the names of all persons aboard the plane, among other things.
The Coordinating Information and Communications Manager for aviation parastatals, Mr. Yakubu Dati, told reporters in Lagos on Sunday that the order for the declaration of passenger manifest was necessary to check the abuse of the use of private and chartered jets.

He said for security reasons, especially the need to arrest those who had constituted security threats to the country, the government would not renege on its decision for pilots of private jets to file their manifests before being given Air Traffic Control clearance.

Dati said security operatives had disclosed that many wanted persons were being smuggled out of the country with private jets.

He also stated that some wanted persons were being sneaked into the country without appropriate checks as many private jets take off from private facilities at airports.

Dati spoke on the heels of the criticism that have trailed the introduction of some new policy measures for the private jet sub-sector in the country.

The government had through the National Civil Aviation Policy, 2013 unveiled two weeks ago directed pilots of private jets to file their manifests before obtaining ATC clearance.

It also said foreign registered private jets could only spend 15 days in the country, just as the policy also barred private jet owners from carrying friends and business associates.

Aviation stakeholders as well as the Action Congress of Nigeria had, however, severely criticised the policy, saying most of its provisions were not obtainable in any other part of the world.

An aviation expert and former Military Commandant, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, Group Captain John Ojikutu, said the demand for passengers’ manifest on private aircraft could only be done by the State Security Services.

“The need for passengers’ manifest on private aircraft, if required, can only be the responsibility of the State Security Services, and in the case of private aircraft on international flight, the Nigerian Immigration Service,” Ojikutu said

But Dati insisted that what the government wanted to do was to monitor the operations of unscheduled flights as well as their manifests due to the current security situation in the country.
According to him, charter services by private jets have become a lucrative business in the country and 80 per cent of the private jets have private licences, but carry out commercial operations.
This, he said, constituted safety challenges because aircraft with private licences were not being subjected to compulsory maintenance checks as those with commercial licences were made to do by the regulatory body, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority.

He also regretted that about 80 per cent of the 150 private jets operating in the country were registered overseas; a situation he said exempted them from paying taxes and five per cent charges to the NCAA.

Dati said, “So, when you collate what government agencies lose by the illegal operations of these aircraft, it amounts to over N25bn in a year. And I can authoritatively tell you that it is now a lucrative business that businessmen bring in aircraft to operate as private jets, while they are actually used for commercial purposes.

“So, it makes nonsense of those charter operators who follow the laid down processes and whose business has now been taken away by the illegal private operators.”

PHOTO: Body of granny found in son’s room, 10 years after

It was a shock find in Oguta, Imo State, yesterday. The embalmed body of a 78-year-old grandmother, who was declared missing 10 years ago, was discovered inside her son’s home.
Dr.-Osigwe-yesterday-NEW-NEW-OK-500x330-300x198
The sleepy Ejemekwuru community in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State has been thrown into turmoil over the strange discovery in the home of Dr. Chimezie Osigweh, a retired school principal.

The police threw open the wardrobe to reveal the body of Madam Lucy Osigweh.

The lid was blown off the scandal by a 22-year-old boy who was searching for his credentials in his father’s closet.

As he opened a wardrobe, he was confronted with the grim sight – the stiff and embalmed body – of her grandmother, who was thought to have been missing.

He tipped off the police, who arrested his dad after confirming the claim.

Imo State Police Commissioner Musa Katsina said Madam Osigweh was declared missing in 2003.

Katsina, speaking at the house in Ejemekuru, said the embalmed body had been kept in that condition since 2003.

“The corpse of Mrs Lucy Osigweh, who was declared missing in 2003, was found in a large cupboard inside a shrine in a private room in a circumstance depicting ritual practice.

“The embalmed body, which was kept in that condition for about 10 years is believed to have been placed in the wardrobe by her son, Dr Chimezie Osigweh, a devotee of the Guru Maharaji sect.

“Preliminary assessment of the scene of crime revealed that the woman must have been murdered by the son for ritual purposes,” he said.

The commissioner said the police were on the trail of other members of the sect who visited Osigweh’s shrine.

He said the body would be handed over to the forensic team of the command to determine the cause of death.

Katsina also said the suspect would be held for first degree murder until the cause of death is established.

The retired teacher confessed that the body of his late mother was embalmed by an employee of one of the General Hospitals in the state who had died.

Narrating how his mother died, Osigweh said: “That evening, sometime in 2003, I was meditating in my temple when my mother came in to ease herself. Suddenly, I heard a big noise. I went in and found her groaning, I took her to her room and laid her on the bed before she passed on.

“But you see, she is still here but I can’t tell you why she is here 10 years, after, because the enemies of Guru Maharaji are all over here, I will talk to you people in camera.”

The leader of the Guru Maharaji sect could not be reached last night.

The suspect, who fielded questions in impeccable English, said he had been a member of the sect for 24 years and had attained high spiritual level to the extent that he could travel to see God at will.

The police chief said the bizarre scene was uncovered by the Ambush Squad attached to the Command after a tip-off.

He said the house serves as a meeting point for ritualists who, according to him, converge to perpetrate atrocities.

“We have information about the large number of devotees that patronise the shrine, which will help us identify those behind the heinous act,” Katsina added.

Think your boss is bad? Company forces employees to crawl on their knees in public (WATCH)

You thought your boss was bad? He’s probably a nice guy compared to the boss of this cosmetics company in Chongqing, China, who recently forced his employees to crawl on their hands and feet in the city’s busy commercial district, in front of hundreds of onlookers.
crawling-employees2-550x412
The controversial event took place on May 2nd, and broadcast live on many Chinese users’ microblog accounts. Later, photos taken by bystanders showing the humiliated employees crawling on their knees with their heads facing the pavement were posted online, causing even more outrage. Some people even notified the police, who showed up on scene and cleared the area. It turns out it was all just a drill ordered by the company boss, who wanted to test his workers’ resistance to pressure. And what better way to do that than have them crawl like dogs in front of strangers taking photos and laughing at them, right? Most likely, he wanted to see how much humiliation his employees were able to bear, so he could exploit them to the maximum without them quitting. If something like this happened in a Western country, the boss would probably be taken to jail or at least sued for damages, but according to Chinese media reports, all the police did in this case was “criticize” and “educate” the cosmetic company’s leadership. Inhumane working conditions all over China have been reported in the past, but this is just borderline slavery.
crawling-employees
Just last week we wrote about the employees of a US real estate agency who willingly tattooed the company’s logo on their bodies in order to receive a 15% permanent raise. I thought that was controversial, but it pales in comparison to this humiliating display. “This boss is finished! His good intention has ruined the name of his company! Such low behavior, how did he come up with something like this?! What would the customers feel if they saw this,” or “This is one of the steps towards making employees into slaves–—in the eyes of the boss, employees are simply slaves” are just some of the comments that describe Chinese internet users’ reactions to the event.

Another building collapses in Lagos trapping two people

A yet to be completed three-storey building in Lagos, Saturday night, collapsed with about two people suspected to be inside.
collapse-building-in-lagos-400x300
The victims, who are labourers in the area, were sleeping inside the building when the accident occurred, according to witnesses.

“We heard a loud crash around 11 p.m. and people started rushing out of their houses,” said a resident who did not want to be named.

“The two men, one is a Yoruba man and the other is a Calabar man, always sleep there. The brother of the Yoruba man just left here crying,” the resident added.

As at 11 a.m., Sunday, there was no sign of rescue effort at the accident site located at Lateef Rufai Way, Liverpool Zone 2 Estate, Satellite town.

Residents say the engineer handling the building, identified as Chidi, was seen Sunday morning in the area, but on learning about the accident, he fled.

“He is well known in this area. Apart from this collapsed house, he is handling other buildings in this area,” another resident, who wants to be identified simply as Mayowa, said.

“You can’t blame the two men who were inside the building. Every uncompleted building here workers sleep inside,” Mr. Mayowa added.

The incident is coming less than a week after another three storey building at Ojodu Berger, belonging to Foursquare Gospel Church, collapsed killing one and injuring four others.

Niger Delta Cannot Determine Nigeria’s President ––Alhaji Balarabe Musa

“Niger Delta, in spite of its oil and incumbency of Jonathan, are not the deciding factors in Nigeria. No one or issue is a deciding factor in Nigeria.

Balarabe Musa
Niger Delta cannot determine the fate of Nigeria; no organisation can decide on the fate of the country. The fate of Nigeria can only be determined by all Nigerians in one way or another. We have passed the stage where a section can decide the fate of Nigeria, and the people who don’t know this should remember the consequences of the ‘Biafran’ Civil War.”
How true is it that Boko Haram insurgency might persist, if Jonathan wins a second term and that ex-militants in the Niger Delta might take up arms, if the President loses?
The problem Nigeria is facing is not based on regional insurgency. Just some days ago, precisely on Wednesday, there was a mysterious incident in Nasarawa State, where a police team was ambushed by a group of people and 20 innocent policemen were killed. This can happen anywhere in Nigeria. Remember it happened in the South-East. We have insecurity throughout Nigeria; Boko Haram is just one aspect of the insecurity; threat by the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta is another aspect. It is not just Boko Haram alone.

Do you see the country holding credible elections in 2015, going by the heat in the polity?
It is not just the threats from the various sections of the country; it is also the misuse of incumbency. It is not going to be possible to have free, fair and transparent elections leading to a legitimate government in 2015, as long as there is misuse of money and power, threats by regional and sectional groups, and the desperation of the Peoples Democratic Party. These three things would make it impossible to have free, fair and transparent elections, no matter what promise anybody makes.

Unless something happens between now and 2015, unless some corrective measures are taken in time, it is not likely that there would be free, fair and transparent elections to bring in a legitimate government that we want. We just don’t want any election; we want one that would produce a legitimate government.

What are the measures to be taken before the elections?
There must be some fundamental changes in the system and the leadership of the country. The reason for the negative state of the nation, however you may describe it, is the socio-economic system is controlling the economic system of the country, which is based on selfish interest and extensively on public interest. It is this system that has produced the political leadership that is based on self-interest. It is this political leadership that is directly responsible for the disturbing level of corruption, stealing and waste of resources, mass unemployment, insecurity and organised violence. The moment you change this system in favour of one based on public interest first, and second on enlightened self-interest, you will see the end of this negative state of this nation. Within two years, the state of the nation will be positive in all respects.

What is responsible for this (state of the nation) is this group of rich and powerful people who compete for the control of government that has been created by the system; they control everything. Do you think the Nasarawa killing was done by just a local organisation? It’s not possible. There must be some rich and powerful people responsible behind it, and these persons may probably have connections with government. That is why the security services were caught unaware.

Do you think these changes can be made without a revolution?
No, I don’t think they can happen. There must be a revolution, whether political, constitutional or social. There must be a revolutionary change, which can take any form. It can take the form of leadership too: political revolution through the National Assembly. The Assembly can be a tool of fundamental change, if it likes, even though it is part and parcel of the mess. It is made up of 469 people, it is not the President who is just a man. We can rely on the Assembly to bring about fundamental changes to deal with the negative state of the nation.

Lagos State Government Bans ‘Keke Marwa’ From Major Roads

Lagos State government has banned the activities of Tricycle popularly called ‘Keke Marwa’ from the major roads in the state, saying, “it is meant to protect the lives and property of the residents of the state.”

kekeMarwa
Commissioner for transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa disclosed this at the 2013 Ministerial Press Briefing held in Alausa to mark the sixth anniversary of Governor Babatunde Fashola’s administration.
He said that the state government had held several meetings with the unions on the development, adding “they have agreed to stay away from these roads.”

Some of the roads tricycles operation was outlawed were: the entire Victoria Island, Government Residential Area, GRA Ikeja and Ikoyi. Also on Awolowo road and Awolowo way, Alausa and entire major roads in Surulere Local Government.
He warned that tricycling isn’t a replacement for motorcycle popularly called Okada in the state, adding “it isn’t a sustainable means of transport for the state especially Lagos that is a megacity.”
He explained that section 3 of the 2012 Lagos road traffic law also outlawed the operation of the tri-cycle in the state.
It will be recalled that Fashola signed the road traffic bill into law last year, aimed at improving safety on the Lagos roads.
“After that law was gazetted, the state government allowed tricycle to operate on some of these roads because vehicles available in those roads weren’t enough to convey the passengers plying the road,” he said.
The commissioner stated that today, the state has enough Bus Rapid Transport, BRT and LAGBUS buses, taxis and others are now available on these roads and the tricycle wouldn’t be needed.

I Wanted To Preserve My Virginity, Not Kill Him-Teenager Arrested For Allegedly Stabbing Classmate

Tribune Reports:

akin
MAY 5, 2013 was Onyinyechi Orakwuelum’s 18th birthday. It was a day she turned an adult, going by the Nigerian constitution but it had left a tragic mark in her life. It was a day she was pushed into committing an act she had never imagined. She could perform. It was a day she allegedly stabbed a 19-year-old boy, Akinwale Ayobami, who she claimed wanted to rape her, to death.
The teenager, Orakwuklum, who is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, where the homicide section is trying to unravel the mystery of how the story of the two classmates turned round, and led to the death of one of them.
Narrating her story, she said:
“ I am from Nkwele Ogidi in Anambra. I finished from Saint Gabriel Commercial Secondary School, Mokola, Ibadan, in 2011 but I am yet to have a result that will qualify me for university education. I have registered for this year’s NECO.
“The deceased was my mate in secondary school but I didn’t know him, closely because he was in commercial class with my friend, Funmbi, while I was in Arts class. Ayobami didn’t finish from Saint Gabriel as he left for another school.
“My parents moved to our personal house at Ologuneru community in Ibadan, so I lost contact with my friends. One day, my mother came home and told me that she saw my friend, Funmbi, and that they had also moved to Ologuneru. I was happy and we reunited. She later gained admission into a university. In April this year, she came to me and asked if I remembered Ayobami, who was popularly called Ewizzy. She said they chatted on facebook and that he told her that he was also living at Ologuneru, and had asked her to meet him at a junction so that she could know his place.
“I told her that I could not recollect the name so she went alone. The next time she wanted to go there, she asked me to follow her. I initially refused, but she persuaded me. We got there and saw him. His girlfriend was also there, lying on a couch. We relived our secondary school days and he later requested for my number since we were living in the same area. I gave him.
“We left and not too long after, he called me, saying that he had been calling Funmbi’s number but it was switched off. He said he wanted to know if I had got home. Funmbi was beside me then so she also answered because her phone battery had gone flat by then.
“Since then, I did not hear from him, though there was a day I missed his call, but I could not call him back as I had no credit on my phone.
“On my birthday on May 5, I went to help a lady in our neighbourhood after coming back from church. When I checked my phone late , I saw Ayobami’s call among others that I had missed. I called him back and while chatting, I told him that day was my birthday . He congratulated me and said it was worth celebrating. I told him I was only marking it.
“He asked where I was and I said Ologuneru, he then asked me to join him at Ologuneru junction. I went there at about 7p.m. and I saw him come out of a beer parlour. I didn’t know that he was already drunk. On getting to his apartment, he took me through the back door. When I asked why, he said the lock on the front door was bad so he locked it with a padlock.
“I told him I preferred to sit outside because it was pitch dark inside. He opened the front door and I went in. We put on torchlights. I made a call to a friend while he was busy on his laptop. Later, he made a call to his mother. We started discussing about school days again and he then went to the kitchen and offered me water. I told him I was o.k. and he went into the kitchen again.”
It was at that point that Onyinyechi said the story changed. She narrated further: “He came back and locked the front door with a padlock. I asked him why he did that but he just sat beside me and said he wanted to date me. I even thought he was joking, and I replied that ‘is that what we came here to do?’ but he told me he was very serious. As he moved closer, I perceived a strong smell of alcohol, then I knew he was drunk.
“I asked again: ‘AY, are you drunk?’ he replied that he was not drunk, saying he meant what he said. I told him I could not date him and he replied that if I could not date him, then he must have sex with me before I leave. I told him to open the door for me to leave but he said I was not going anywhere. I started pleading but he did not yield.
“The next thing he did was to pull off his trousers and I knew I was in trouble because I could see he was aroused. He told me I could see that he was in mood for sex and that he must have his way. I opened the sliding window screaming ‘somebody, please help me!, Somebody, please, save me!’. He came there, slapped me, drew me back and locked the window. I started running round the sitting room and he was pursuing me.
“He went to the kitchen and brought a knife, warning me not to waste his time. He threatened to do something nasty to me if I did not yield to him after counting from one to 10. He had said before that he loved his mother so I begged him in the name of his mother, he did not yield ground. I begged him in the name of God but he said he left God a long time ago and that he was serving Ogun. He showed me the picture of a bird hanged on the wall and said that was the symbol of his god. I also told him I was having my menses but he said I should allow him to do what he wanted to do, saying that if his friends should meet me in the house, they would take their turns with me.
“He lit a cigarette and started smoking. He started his countdown but I knelt and was pleading. As he got to eight, I screamed the more but he rushed at me and started struggling with me to remove the bum shorts I was wearing underneath my long dress. In the process, he dropped the knife, and at that moment of intense fear, I picked the knife and waved it at him in the darkness. The next thing I heard was Yee! O ti gun mi (Oh! You have stabbed me). I stood up, shivering. I searched for my phone because the entire place was in topsy-turvy. Throughout the struggling, no one responded among his neighbours, though he had earlier said that no one would respond to me as they regard the occupants of his flat as ‘Dons’ who are dreaded.
“I reported at home and we went to the police station to report. By the time we got back to the house, he was dead. It was in the morning that it was seen clearly that the knife pierced his heart.”
Sunday Tribune gathered that the deceased’s mother had been so distraught about his death that she had been calling for justice to be done to her son’s killer. She was said to be separated from the boy’s father and had remarried and given birth to other children while Ayobami was the only child she had for the father. Police investigations also revealed that the man Ayobami was living with in the flat was not related to him.

Confirming the report, the police image maker in Oyo State, DSP Olabisi Clet-Ilobanafor said.

Reacting to the story, the Assistant Commissioner of police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, ACP Dasuki Galadanchi said the matter was still being investigated.“There is no witness yet to support the suspects’ story. On the side too, dead bodies cannot talk. There was no witness on the side to corroborate whether there was an attempted rape or not.”
“In line with the police strategy of the Inspector General of police which encourages openness, transparency and accountability, we will go deeper into investigations and get to the root of the matter. If she’s found culpable, she’ll be charged to court accordingly. We are for justice.”

The victim identified as Adeolu Adeleke and also known as Baba Ibeji, went out to protect his  wares from the rain when the incidence happened.

One of the people who witnessed the incident and a very close friend of the deceased said Adeleke was warned not to enter the rain because of the strong wind but he refused. “I told him to forget about the goods since the wind was blowing strongly, but he said he would hurry down there quickly not knowing that he will not return,” he said.

Adeleke according to his colleagues in the area was described as a gentleman with the fear of God and who goes about his business quietly and diligently.

Papa is back! Oritsejajor re-elected as CAN president, immediately warns Christians about “Fulani herdsmen”

Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor has been re-elected as the president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) winning an overwhelming majority of the votes.
Ayo-Oritsejafor
In the election which took place on Thursdy night, Oritsejafor polled 80 votes to beat his only opponent in the election, Reverend Oyekunle, who scored a mere four votes.

While speaking on his victory, Oritsejafor thanked the members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) for granting him another opportunity to lead the CAN.

“Together we will build a Church that will transform the nation,” he said.

The Vanguard Newspapers reports it thus:

He again expressed concern about the menace of Fulani herdsmen who he said are a part of an agenda to Islamise the nation, noting that essentially, cattle rearers are illiterates who have been schooled in the art of using sophisticated weapons including AK 47 and others.

He blamed greedy traditional rulers in parts of the South who collect cattle gifts and huge sums of money in exchange for farmlands in their domains which the Fulani use as bases for their nefarious activities including raping women, killing innocent indigenes while the traditional rulers look the other way.

Urging Christians to be extra vigilant about the activities of Fulani herdsmen, Oritsejafor said Christians are not against cattle rearing but Nigerians can no longer continue to accept crude methods of grazing cattle.

According to him, European and American citizens eat beef just as other nations of the world do, “but  where in those nations do you find cattle on the highway? He maintained that their respective state governments should provide modern grazing grounds for their cattle rearers where they would stay and give their children proper education.

“They should take the cows back to where they  came from while grazing their cattle in modern grazing grounds in their homesteads. If they want to be carrying assault weapons, they are at liberty to use same on themselves.”

IGP Heads To Nasarawa, As Police Widows Fault Governor for killing

Information available to 247ureports.com indicates that situation at Nasarawa State may have taken a new turn and may have resulted to new revelations concerning the true cause of the killings between the police and the traditionalist group, Ombatse.
wpid-nigeria-police2558441b-300x184
According to the information gathered, the widows of the slain police officers had taken to the streets on Friday at Akwanga in protest of the killing of their husbands. The widows blocked a 3kilometer stretch of  the major thoroughfare into Akwanga town for a period of over 5hours – before the zonal police chief of Zone ‘B’ came to address the protesting widows. [The majority of the killed police officers were from the Akwanga police station.]

The police chief was not allowed to address the widows because he was booed repeatedly – and the police chief was whisked away when it became apparent his safety was no longer guaranteed.

As the police chief left, our source informed that the widows were invited by the governor to the governor’s house   where the governor attempted to cool the grieving wives into understanding why the unfortunate event occurred.

But it was understood that the governor got what he did not expect from the widows. The widows were quick to point blame at the Governor for dispatching the officers of the law, their husbands, to such “questionable and unwarranted” assignment. Without mincing words, the widows pointed the cause of their husband’s death directly at the doorsteps of the Governor.

Reacting, the governor called for understanding while explaining that the group, Ombatse, were engaged in satanic practices – and had required Police attention. But the widows remained unsettled with the explanation. They were however placated with the N1million each to each widow. The widows accepted.

The next day [today] following the visit to the Governor, the widows headed out to the streets again. This time they laid the demanded for the corpse of their husbands.  The demand was made to the Governor for him to give them their husband’s corpse.

Interestingly, the widows did not point blame at the traditionalist group for the death of their husbands. According eye witnesses, the widows also appears to have found increasing widespread support from the masses in Akwanga/Lafia axis – who have since come en mass to join the protests. Estimate of the number of protesters near 8,000 women.

Police Affairs Minister Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade gave the warning in Abuja yesterday while rising from the emergency security meeting held by President Goodluck Jonathan and the service chiefs.
The meeting, which started at 3.00pm and ended at 4.15pm, was attended by
Olubolade himself, the National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki; Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ola Saad Ibrahim; Chief of Naval staff, Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba;   Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Badeh;   Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar;   Director General of the State Security Service, Ita Ekpenyong; while the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Geneneral Azubuike Ihejirika was represented by his Chief of Policy and Plans, Major General Emmanuel Bassey,.
Although the security chiefs after the meeting refused to talk to journalists, the IG, wearing a black arm band as a sign of mourning, merely described the killing of his men as very sad, saying “we’re working on it”.
Earlier while briefing State House correspondents about the meeting, the Police Affairs Minister described it as an emergency security meeting conveyed at the instance of the President.
He said Jonathan summoned the security agencies to see how to tame the rising insecurity in the country.
On the fears that the police might avenge the killings of their colleagues in Nasarawa, the minister said doing so would not   douse the tension, but cause lack of confidence in the system.
According to him, “the security agencies, particularly the police, will not want to revenge. It’s not going to help us, because they are supposed to protect lives and property. Revenge will not douse tension and it’ll bring about lack of confidence in the system. So, we strictly discourage that. “
The minister, who said he could not confirm that the slain security officers first killed nine leaders of the cult group, added that if nothing had gone wrong, the officers would not just do so, if at all they did.
“The police won’t just wake up and pick their (cultists’) leaders, if nothing has gone wrong. The populace must know that anybody can be brought in by the police for interrogation depending on the intelligence the police get and that is what happens elsewhere,” he said.
On the state of emergency being called for in some northern states, he said though those calling for it have the right to do so, the president would take a decision on it in the end.
Olubolade described as misleading and unreliable, the position of the US that the current security challenges could destabilize Nigeria.
